So by winning yesterday we gain two games against playoff teams that run a 3-4 defense that has flummoxed Kubiak every time he faced it?

The Texans are certainly gonna earn whatever they get next year. We are going to need some key pieces this offseason to improve on our record against a slate like that.

Tough schedule, but the Texans are no gimme either. We need some key pieces: stud safety, an at least servicable C, and maybe make a splash at the WR position this offseason. Re-sign Pollard, Ryans, and Daniels, too.

Which is more fun? Going to DC to see the Texans whoop the Redskins or risk going to Philly to watch the Texans play the Eagles?

I was thinking Philly until I found out the Shanny's are going to DC. Would be fun to watch our guys prove to "baby" that he made a big mistake being a Daddy's boy! This would be ONE game where I wish Kubes would lay it all out and run up the score. BUT, Kubes being Kubes, he'll take it to the wire, and his loyalty to the Shanny's just might cost us a win.

Chris Myers seemed to be pretty serviceable, but the number of QB hits he's allowed HAS to improve next season with the Jets and Ravens on our schedule. Haloti Ngata and Kris Jenkins will be looking forward to playing the Texans.

its not just myers that struggles against those monsters, most C's do. he struggles against those guys & sometimes in short yardage but overall is an above average C yet he continues to get a raw deal from the armchair o-line coaches

The team that those teams played wasn't this team. This team should be good enough next year that it doesn't matter who's on our schedule. We should win. A lot.

And you never know which teams on your schedule are going to be good or bad until you get there.

meh....what these teams are like now and what they'll be like next year is two different things. Of course that also means the Texans, which like any other team, can come out either good or bad next year. Just have to wait and see if Da Kubinator makes a team out of the Texans for once.

This is due to the new NFL rules that limits west coast travel. The Titans would have had to go to both Oakland and San Diego in 2010, but they now they only go to one (we play KC on the road instead of Oakland).

The Jets finished 2nd in their division. So we play them because of that.

The Ravens finishd second in their division, so we play them.

The Raiders are in the AFC South, so we play them.

If we want to take the next step, we need to beat these guys.

I think the Texans are as good as any team on our schedule in 2010. In '09 if Danta Robinson would have showed up for training camp we might have started 3-0. Not 1-2. Robinson is the reason for the slow start of the defense. He is to blame for the Texans not making the playoffs.

I do think 2010 schedule will be brutal compare to 2009
considered the fact that we 1 and 5 in our division this year. Next year might not be much better. Titans will not be an 0-6 team next year. Also, these home game aren't cake-walk either:

San Diego Chargers
Baltimore Ravens
Dallas Cowboys
New York Giants

First off, welcome to the board. Secondly, if I were forced to point blame at one position during those 3 games it'd be both Safety positions. IIRC, we had Barber and Busing starting.....bleh!

Additionally, we had a rookie LB that had sit throughout the pre-season starting in his first game ever.

The ranking is how their SOS was at beginning of season, end number is their record after 2009 season. Itseems some teams with easy schedules did not benefit, nor did teams with tough schedules do badly. I think it is a matter of luck, injuries, your division and rest of NFL, so despite fact we got one heck of an SOS for 2010 will wait and see how that plays out

The strength of schedule BEFORE the season is really irrelevant because it's based on their opponents' schedules from the PREVIOUS season.

To really get a meaningful strength of schedule, you have to calculate each team's opponents' combined records for 2009. I couldn't find it calculated anywhere on the net and I didn't feel like taking the time to calculate it myself.

Some interesting notes:

These were the top 5 predicted difficulty strengths of schedules:

1. Miami Dolphins 7-9
2. Carolina Panthers 8-8
3. New England Patriots 10-6
4. Atlanta Falcons 9-7
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-13

They finished as:
Miami - .559 (1st hardest schedule)
Carolina - .539 (3rd hardest schedule)
NE - .516 (12th hardest)
Atl - .504 (somewhere in the middle)
TB - .555 (2nd hardest schedule)

So while there is some variability in schedules as compared to how they are predicted, as you can see, the teams who looked to have the hardest schedules after the 08-09 season usually DID in fact have the hardest season in 09-10

OTOH, you've got teams like the Saints, who were expected to have a fairly hard schedule, who ended up having the weakest schedule. The Colts were expected to have a moderate schedule and had a relatively weak one.

Either way, we didn't have one of the hardest or one of the weakest schedules has has been claimed. We finished tied for the 10th hardest schedule out of 20. Right in the middle.

I say 10-6 based off of what we know now.

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messages/chrono/19353125

Colts(x2) - playoffs
Chargers - playoffs
Ravens - playoffs
Cowboys - playoffs
Eagles - playoffs
Jets - playoffs
Giants - 9 wins
Titans(x2) - 8 wins
Broncos - 8 wins
Jaguars(x2) - 7 wins

All of those teams were capable of beating the Texan's this year. Not that they would but I actually think the Texan's would have been .500 at best against those teams and that's 13 games. Raiders and Redskins will also be improved next year as well. I am happy for you guys that you finally broke the barrier of .500 but don't get too out of control. This is still a team made up of players that for the most part haven't experienced what it takes to make the playoffs. Titans started out 10-0 last year. They only lost one started and they started 0-6 this year. I'd wait til you see how they fair early in the season before I got my hopes up and expect double digit wins. Like I said... based off this year, that schedule would be ridiculous. Probably the toughest in the NFL.

Soo I found some articles saying that the schedule doesn't have an exact release date (last year 4/14) even though the rumor of 4/13 was started from somebody noticing an ESPN2 special on the NFL Schedule release, I looked on UVerse lineup for today and didn't see such a special.

New reports say later this week or early next week, no confirmed date.

Sorry I brought up the other rumor...more waiting....

I hope they release primetime games today, that would make the waiting tolerable.

The complicated riddle that is the NFL regular-season schedule has not been solved yet, and all we know for sure at this point is it will be out before the NFL draft begins next Thursday night in New York City.

League schedule-makers continue to work on the 256-game slate, and a league spokesman confirms to SI.com that the NFL now hopes to announce it by "later this week or early next week."

"They are still working on it. And if we had it done, we'd be rolling it out," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday. "We're still shooting for later this week or early next week at the latest."

The NFL Network will televise a schedule release show in primetime on the day the league rolls out its schedule and that programming has yet to be nailed down. The league is likely to announce the timing of that program a day or two in advance in order to publicize the show.

Opponents for all 32 teams have been known since the close of the 2009 regular season. The drama of the schedule release, however, is the first announcement of how each team's season will unfold and which games will be nationally televised in primetime.

I strongly speculate that the McNabb trade, along with possibly the Santonio Holmes trade has the league considering changing their primetime games. This could be the reason why the league has been so non-committal on a schedule release date.

I think they are finding it difficult to balance the schedules now that they are ending the season with divisional games. Basically, it's a new formula. Also, since they are putting the emphasis on divisional games, other "fairness" concerns probably crept in. For instance, one AFC south team having a bye in week 3 and then another in week 10... or, things like 3 game road trips. Or, having divisional foes meet in December with one team getting 7 days off and the other playing on Monday night on the week before.

What other professional sport has a 16 game season? What I am getting at, is that every game matters even moreso than basketball or baseball because there's a big difference between 15-1 and 80-1. Also, the NFL is the most watched and profitable league in the country, so it's automatically going to be given a higher priority than the other sports.

There are those that like to forecast their vacation and spend in advance. With the Texans having eight away games and most of them being played on Sunday it is a luxury to know the actual dates.

Personally, I am not freaking out, but I am hoping that the Denver game is in December so I can plan a boarding trip around the game. :snobord:

The Redskins-Eagles series in 2010 just got really big, especially the game in
Philly obviously because the McNabb trade is such a compelling story.
And it's probably not a simple thing to change a teams schedule when you consider many of these NFL stadiums are leased to multiple-type users with a
variety of event types scheduled with long lead times in many cases.

It's only a possibility, not a sure thing. At least that what I think "Potentially" and "considering" mean.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- In an effort to have teams use their top players through the final games of the season, the NFL is considering making the last week -- and possibly weeks -- consist of all divisional matchups.

"Potentially, Week 17 will all be divisional games," commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday during his closing remarks at the NFL Annual Meeting. "That will address this to some extent. It will not necessarily eliminate the issue."

Another team that will be seriously challenged to make the playoffs will be the Houston Texans. Under plenty of pressure last season, the Texans finally made it over the top. The former expansion team had its first winning season and Schaub threw for 4,770 yards and moved into the elite class of quarterbacks.

The Texans and the Titans are tied with the toughest schedules in the league in 2010, a .547 schedule that for Houston is .043 harder than last year. Potentially, that could take the Texans from 9-7 to 7-9, but the key is division play. The Texans went 1-5 in the AFC South and 8-2 against the rest of the league. With games against the tough NFC East and tough nondivision games against the Baltimore Ravens and Jets, it may be hard to go 8-2 in the nondivision games to reach .500.

Everyone's putting all of this emphasis on how our schedule is the toughest in the league, but no one seems to realize how much the Colts inflate that stat by playing a 14-2 team twice. We know we match up well with them(winning is a different story), but other than that, our schedule isn't as brutal as it could have been. For all we know, the Colts could really start falling off, as well as these other teams we play.

I don't buy into it. We will kick some ass and take names this season.:fans:

Texans will have 3 PRIME TIME games!! 2 Monday nights and one Thursday night game. And before you think the Thursday night game is Thanksgiving, your wrong! From the information I heard, when the Presidents from UT and A&M heard rumors of the Texans playing Thanksgiving night they made calls stating they preferred that the Texans didn't play the late game due to them moving their game to a night game this year.

Also one of the Monday night games is out of town ofcourse but against the Colts. Thats all the info I could get from my friend since he just found out the info right before he was to walk into a meeting.

Redskins schedule out..Corresponds with the Texans one.

the Redskins play eight games before the bye week: Dallas at home, Houston at home, at St. Louis, at Philadelphia, Green Bay at home, Indianapolis at home, at Chicago, at Detroit.
After the bye, they play the Eagles at home, at Tennessee, Minnesota at home, at the Giants, Tampa Bay at home, at the Cowboys, at Jacksonville, and then conclude the season against the Giants at FedEx Field.

Most likely the second one is away; I don't think there's ever been 4 road games in a road before.

IIRC, when Hurricane Ike struck Houston a couple of years ago and damaged Reliant Stadium, we were forced to play 3 road games to start off the season. I think that was the first time a team ever played more then 2 road games in a road.

The Texans took steps forward with their first winning season in 2009. A few close losses were the difference between the playoffs and an early vacation, but continued progress could bridge that gap in 2010. However, the Texans play the league's toughest, based on last year's results.

First six games don't look too bad for us finally getting out to a good start. Tough opening with the defending AFC champs , but at least it's in Houston. The Washington game just......feels like a trap game. I think they've done a good job this offseason getting better. Possible to go 4-2.

What I think is good is the timing of the bye week. Hopefully, Kubiak and Co. will have the team ready to make a push at that point. they're going to have to be ready for a brutal finish.

If you are going to have a so-called hard schedule, the Texans have managed (on paper at least):

1) Not to have a 3/4 game "death march"
2) Play Indy 1st game & after a bye week
3) If they are actually good have a stretch of winnable (not easy) games to close the season.

Wish we could have more than one MNF game at home and although I am excited about it, I wish it was against an AFC South opponent or someone like Denver/Cowboys/etc.

Going to be a really tough test coming out against the Colts and we all know how openers go with the Texans.

PFT (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/20/texans-get-more-national-exposure/) labels the Texans with the TOUGHEST schedule in the NFL.:

Texans get more national exposure
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 20, 2010 7:42 PM ET

Fantasy football owners have always had a soft spot for Gary Kubiak's Texans because they always put up yards, if not wins.

Now that the team is finally coming off a winning season, they are getting more respect from the national television networks.

The Texans appear in primetime three times, the most ever for the franchise. They head to Indianapolis in Week Eight for a Monday night game, play on Thursday night in Week Twelve in Philadelphia, and host the Ravens on Monday night in Week Thirteen.

Houston hosts the Colts in Week One, which just may be the most meaningful opener in the league. (We can hear the stories now: Either "More of the same" or "This year will be different!")

Based on 2009 winning percentage, the Texans have the toughest schedule in the league. But we've seen in past years that number means virtually nothing. A game that looks tough in April often doesn't turn out that way by November.

Dallas @ HomeTime 2 show who teh true kings of texas are

@ Oakland 3pmTeh black hole !!!! if we are u we say we are then we should dismantle the raiders if we are the same ol texans by this point then this will be a challenge

NY Giants @ Homewe play a manning 3 times this year ...we got to take care of our home games plus i think NY is on a slide infact i think all of the NFC east is on a slide this year IMO lets hope im right

Chiefs @ HomeTrap game Young and hungry CHeifs

I haven’t read all 12 pages but please tell me I’m the first to say it: “week 1, Sept. 12 Indy @ Reliant, THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME IN TEXANS HISTORY”

everygame this year is the MOst important IMO its all or nothing this season either we rise or we Crumble

are only goal should be to raise that lombardy trophy in Dallas

Im a little upset at the fact that we didn't get any 3pm games at home.. We got 3 of them but they are all away, regardless not a bad schedule at all with 3 primetime games!

I like the fact we play the Colts the first game of the year - it could be a statement game that could really determine how the Texans come out the gate into the season. A win against the Colts would really help their confidence.

Agreed... at home the first game of the season. I like our chances :)

Mmm, four late season games which could be impacted by cold weather, interesting.

Am I missing something? Colts, Skins, 'boys... there isn't anything tough about that schedule. I'm predicting 3-0. Write it down.

2-4 to the bye, 2- 6 down the stretch. Whole lot of players will have to make a monumental step forward this summer to avoid a ten loss season. All three four defenses features a stout guy in the middle. Unless we miracle catching all of them with their premier NT's down, we will not be able to run the ball against them. Just a matter of time before MS goes down and we become zero dimensional team . Can not run the ball and can not throw the ball. Write it down.

No west coast games. No 3-4 game roadies, long week tp prepare for balty monday night, and a familiar opponent to open the season. I am not mad about the schedule.

I remember the Green Bay game was like 4th coldest in Lambeau history, but I don't remember it snowing.
