View Full Version : An Honest Question.............How Would You Feel??

Most of the discussion on the board thus far has been on how you would feel if we won against the Pats' 2nd stringers rather than against their starters. And it is obvious that most would cherish a win in either case. But, I would like to throw out a question, the answer to which I would really like to have accompanied by some honest soul searching..............If the Texans were to LOSE with the Pats starters out the game for two or more quarters, how would you feel about the progress this team has made?

But not pissed off enough to call for Kubiak's firing.

One game is 1/64th of Kubiak's body of work here. While it carries a little more weight than some of the others, it isn't a decision maker for me. Win or lose, no matter who the Patriots play - other games were just as important this year.

Misunderstood question.. EDIT.... I would feel crappy if they lose no matter what. Damn.... My balls would straddle the fence about Gary in the offseaon until a decision was made!!!!! And I'm usually a very decisive person.

I'll be disappointed if we lose regardless of their personnel.

But given that Brady & Co. absolutely embarrassed the Titans and stomped the playoff-hopeful Jags, I wouldn't be real surprised if they had a fair-sized lead when Belichick pulled them out of the game - since our record says we're not appreciably better than those two teams. And, as has been repeated over and over again, we are who our record says we are.

Personally, I doubt if the Pats sit their starters before the mid-way point of the 3rd qtr; and then only if they have a serious lead.

....unless we blitz Pollard and he gets close to Brady again
:D

It all depends on the situation. First I don't think they're going to jump out to a big lead, not against our defense. So if it's close, the way the Colts laid down on the Jets..... & we lose, I'm going to have to re-assess the weight I put on Kubiak's shortcomings.

If they do get a big lead on us, I'll curse Domonique Barber for his hamstring issues.

I just don't let that disappointment eat at me until it turns into anger.

What if by the most bizzare of circumstances, we actually win playing only one good half & all the teams we need to lose play a full 60 minutes, but lose heartbreakers on weird plays? IIRC Kansas City once made the playoffs due to their special teams the last game of the season.

That said, I'm with Runner on this one.

If they were to lose v. the Pats 2nd string, I think that'd throw me to one side of the fence (though the recent 1-5 and overall crappy divisional record should do that already).

What? You know there is no difference between 8-8, & 9-7. If we win that 9th game because the Pats took out their starters, why would you change your sig?

I'm being serious.

Nothing you've argued to date (that I can recall) would be any less true.

I wouldn't be pleased. Tony Dungy said we lack a killer instinct, we can't finish games, and there's just something missing from the team. I already agree with him, I'd lose a lot of the remaining hope I have for this regime.

I know how it sounds...but some of the losses this season are worse than 2005.

That's understandable.

On the flipside, if they win, with the starters in... for much of the game... let's say we're winning with the starters in, would you have new hope for this regime?

I think I would feel about the same way I do now: we need to plug a few holes on this team and add some veteran leaders who know how to win. I'm pretty sure I will feel that way whether we make the playoffs or completely collapse on Sunday.

i am shocked and trying to figure out what people are seeing in Vegas.. +8 the Texans ? really? I understand that the Pats will likely pull their starters ,but if I had faith that the Texans could play all four quarters and more importantly get some crisp coaching for 4 quarters, then I can see it .. I need to be more positive I guess, but I still have the pre 2010 Texans on the brain where they like to get a lead and then try to coast.

The Texans (8-7) must beat New England and get help with losses from two of three teams -- Baltimore, Denver and the New York Jets -- to earn their first playoff trip in franchise history.

I'll take the Patriots as 8-point underdogs simply because Belichick plans to play his starters and it's rare when you can get more than a touchdown with New England.

How rare is it? The Patriots have not been underdogs of eight points or more since 2001, when it happened four times. New England covered three of those games and won two outright.

The Vegas Wiseguys know when Belichick is lying. The tell is when his lips are moving. Those guys don't stay in business by making a lot of mistakes.

After the Pats big win over the Jags, I said the Texans would see the Pats JV. That Vegas agrees only confirms that belief for me. It is inconceivable to me that the Texans could drop a game like this to 2nd stringers. Even the Patriots 2nd stringers.

When LUCKY LESTER (http://www.luckylester.com/2010/01/free-nfl-picks-new-england-patriots-vs-houston-texans/) speaks, everyone listens.

This is a tough one to get a read on, how weird, right? I mean, it’s only a game that absolutely doesn’t matter at all to the Patriots, but Tom Brady has supposedly asked to play and Bill Belichick has supposedly answered with “You bet, it’s your world, you’re in.” So Tom’s telling everyone and their mother that he’ll be playing this week. Now I don’t know Bill Belichick personally, but this seems like a great time to pull an awesome trick on just about everyone (including my fantasy team) and play Brady for about a quarter before giving way to some guy most of the fans don’t even know. That’s right, name the Pats’ back-up and I’ll give you some Flutie Flakes. Nope, Doug Flutie is on ESPN analyzing college football games, but if you answered Andrew Walter, you’re close – that guy’s the #3… Brian Hoyer is the right answer, and I’m not promising we’ll see him – but I’m telling you, Tom coming out saying he’s going to play seems way too easy to be real.

And while the Patriots have shown they’ll go for the wins late in the year instead of rolling over for their opponents, this is also a game that holds no significance for New England what-so ever. They know they’ll be playing next week and they know they’ll be playing a home game – this game means nothing.

For the Texans, this game is a chance at the playoffs – it’s not a “win and you’re in” situation, but a win keeps them alive. They have a powerful enough offensive attack to put pressure on the Patriots anyway – in a meaningless game for the Pats, I expect Houston to win by double digits.
