What's it gonna be this week?

The perfect scenario- "I now realize that i'm an incompetent head coach and will therefore resign as the Texans head coach."

The most likely scenario-"I didn't have them prepared. Blame it on me."

JM "How do you feel now that you are 5-7"

Kubes "It doesn't feel very good John"

JM "So, do you wish you had won more games?"

Kubes "yes John. of course"

JM "Have you seen Cook County?"

Kubes "what?"

JM "a movie I'm in"

Kubes "I don't understand the question"

JM "I can't think of anything else to ask"

Kubes "Okay, since nobody has any questions, that's it"

Well this answers my question....would really like to hear from McNair instead of this clown. Someone should tell Kubiak that if you play the game DVR'd on fast forward with the Benny Hill song, it pretty quite funny.

Yeah, it didn't last long. Personally I no longer see the point in them. It's starting to become cruel and unusual punishment to make a lame duck coach do these, but then again the product we've had to watch the last 8 years was cruel and unusual punishment for the fans. :)

Well, I figured we'd not see what we should have seen. A massive press conference with McNair in attendance, and Kubiaks butt hitting the door. My pessimism continues, as I feel it's necessary to act now if we are to have a chance at a first rate HC, and it's a good chance (As Vinny and others have stated), that McNair will just stay with the status quo and end up David Carr'ing us!

same ole same ole it sounds like. Not that we should have expected anything else.

I feel bad for Kubiak, I wanted him to do well and take us to the playoffs. But it's obvious he's in over his head. It's difficult to hate Kubiak like I could Capers, because Kubiak is such a nice guy. But, he's gotta go. If he doesn't, this team will suffer for it next season.

Please stop.

This is how we got here in the first place: By being a charitable FOR PROFIT organization, instead of an NFL team bent on destroying other teams in our way.

You need to stop with the whole "sentimental" thingy you got goin' on.

I wasn't on this message board back then, so no. I remember thinking he was a complete turd by his last year and wasn't sorry at all to seem him go. While I still like Kubiak, I do think he has to go.

GP
12-07-2009, 05:58 PM
I was here, and I do remember. He was thought of as a guy who would go out to the practice field and just cheer everyone and get them pep'd up. Always encouraging the players.

But he had those fits on the sideline where he just made faces and stared, with his mouth open, just begging for something to go his way.

Yes, that season was a laugher. And 2010 will go down the same way. Avoid watching this team in the 5th and 10th year of every decade.

It is hard not to be "sentimental" when it comes to Gary - although I know he has to go. He's a nice guy, he knows football and is just missing that little something that takes you from a good coach to an excellent coach. We need an excellent coach. I was close to callous and heartless when it came to Capers.

At least at this presser Kubiak didn't say, "Its all on me."

610's Kubiak show has folks calling in being "sentimental."

Callous, realistic, sentimental, or positively delusional, I think McNair will err on the side of sentimental.

Oh no, dont' get me wrong, he needs to go. He stopped progressing as a head coach last year and has regressed significantly enough this year to warrant being fired. He is not the coach to take this team to the next level.

That said I do recognize that he has improved the team since he got here. I don't think that should be forgotten. The next head coach will have one hell of a team to take over and that has a lot to do with what Kubiak did so far.

OK, good.

But there could still be a new head coach who takes this team and makes it worse (instead of making it better). The big thing, though, is that this team is very likely going to go bad even WITH Kubiak coming back for one more year.

So...McNair better get this right. If we go backward, either WITH Kubiak or with a new HC, it's not going to be pretty. He's going to see his profit margin take a hit.

The longer us fans watch the Texans franchise, the more we get wise to what WILL work and what WON'T. The honeymoon for "bringing NFL football back to Houston!" is abruptly over.

Nobody is gonna dispute Kubiak is a likeable guy. Everyone has been rooting for him to be a success for his first HC job with his hometown team. But unfortunately he's not the guy to get us where we want our team to go.

Don't take it personal Gary but you're just not the coach this team needs.

I'm back on board. I just got rid of my pink soap and will be hoping for one more season with the Kubes. I'm not sure why but sentimentality has something to do with it! I really like the guy and since I'm still not confident he can't coach, I want to see him get one more season.

I Agr....wait what?!

How can you not be confident he can't coach but want another season? To prove what? That he improve on the 2-14 lame duck season of Dom Capers?

We still have 4 games left. I have a feeling the games against St. Louis and Seattle will be closer then they should be. Not to mention this team will have to stop Steven Jackson unlike they did for Tenn and the Jags.

Miami and N.E. both will have a lot to play for our final two games. I'm thinking we'll have a tougher road to .500 then most people are slotting us for.

....jeeze the best I have to hope for at this point is a .500 season.

But nonetheless, you can't excuse what's gone on this year.

I agree. We cannot excuse losing 2 interior offensive linemen in the first 3 games of the season.

Can't excuse our franchise CB taking 6 weeks to get up to speed.

Can't excuse our star DE having a bum shoulder all year long.

Can't excuse our #2 receiver missing 2 games.

Can't excuse our "star" running backs fumblitis (& every body saying give him a chance, give him a chance)

Can't excuse starting a rookie at SAM after missing Training camp.

Can't excuse OD getting hurt before the most important 5 week stretch this franchise has ever faced.

Can't excuse missing the only legit FS we've had in the past 3 years over the same 5 week period.

Can't excuse the fact that we've been in every game this year (minus the Jets), & had a decent chance of winning them despite all these other things we can't excuse.

I'm not trying to make excuses for Kubiak..... I'm just saying.

He took what he had, and did pretty good.

Kubiak didn't miss any field goals, he didn't throw one interception, he didn't get one false start, or one personal foul, or a pass interference. Kubiak didn't drop a ball that hit him in the hands (as a receiver or a DB), or miss a cutback lane, or miss a tackle.... all this was done by players you like, probably wouldn't replace any one of them... well, maybe Dunta.

We lost to the Jets... inexcusable... we are a better team.
We lost to the Jags... they beat us twice, & have a legit shot at making the play-offs.
We lost to the Cardinals... who just beat Minnesota... they're pretty good.
We lost to the Colts..... they're kind of like perfect on the year.
We lost to the Titans... when nobody was beating them. Their only loss in the last 6 weeks, is to that team I just called perfect.

Yet we were in those games..... (except the Jets game).. we "could have won" those games...

inexcusable!!!!

he's always had the body language of a loser. This ain't nuttin' new.

Ive been talking about that for years, and if your a coach wether you think your going to win or do well or strugle is irrelevent when it comes to your attitude, the way that you stand, talk, walk, eat, sleep, crap should glow with confidence because its copntagious, and players are like children in that they can smell fear/BS, even subconciously. Hes just a passive, wait and hope kinda guy, not a go get it my way or nothing guy that we need/want.....

A case can be made that it is on the players on every losing team. They play the game. But when a team collectively keeps making the mistakes that lead to losses then it becomes a leadership problem. Kubiak isn't ever going to be able to instill a winning attitude no matter what in this team because he isn't that type of person.

I agree that we need some veteran players that can lead on the field but this orginanization is soft from the top down. It is going to take some field general in the same mold of Cowher or Schottenheimer to come in here and infuse these guys with the confidence that not only can they win but they are expected to win EVERY game because they are better than the opposition.

It is most definately a coaching problem here in Houston. I have no doubts.

What if Dunta hald held out ALL year? Coaches job to make sure he's ready. (or that his replacement is)

Can't excuse our star DE having a bum shoulder all year long.
If it's been ALL year, why haven't we brought in a replacement or built a better DE rotation?

Can't excuse our #2 receiver missing 2 games.
Nope

Can't excuse our "star" running backs fumblitis (& every body saying give him a chance, give him a chance) It depends, if he's changed the way he carries the football (as shown on tape) - that's a coaching issue.

Can't excuse starting a rookie at SAM after missing Training camp.
Don't see anyone blaming Cushing for anything - you're 'whistling dixie' here.

Can't excuse OD getting hurt before the most important 5 week stretch this franchise has ever faced. Most important stretch ever?...to Kubes' career maybe. Once again, his job to have backups prepared.

Can't excuse missing the only legit FS we've had in the past 3 years over the same 5 week period. Nope

Can't excuse the fact that we've been in every game this year (minus the Jets), & had a decent chance of winning them despite all these other things we can't excuse. If the coaching is good enough to get us IN/TIED the lead, why can't we close the deal?

I'm not trying to make excuses for Kubiak..... I'm just saying.

No he didn't, but's it's HIS JOB to have his TEAM prepared.

We lost to the Jets... inexcusable... we are a better team. I'll give him the Jets game..too many new variables to adjust for...though THEY started a ROOKIE QB who kicked our butt.
We lost to the Jags... they beat us twice, & have a legit shot at making the play-offs. Only because they beat us twice (circular argument)
We lost to the Cardinals... who just beat Minnesota... they're pretty good. Yep, it's shame the team can't play TWO halves of football...unprepared team again for 200 Alex?
We lost to the Colts..... they're kind of like perfect on the year. And we were up by two TDs, but couldn't score until the waning seconds of the 2nd half - which staff made adjustments at halftime?
We lost to the Titans... when nobody was beating them. Their only loss in the last 6 weeks, is to that team I just called perfect. So, because they lost to the team we had the good lead on, we should lose too?

Yet we were in those games..... (except the Jets game).. we "could have won" those games...

Now, it's time for someone else to come in and finish the job.
