Against Jacksonville. IT's our first offensive play. The one Matt goes down, & dislocates his shoulder.
All year, I've been commenting on how poor Eric Winston's cut block is. I've even gone so far as to say that he is our worst offensive lineman. It's a bit of a controversal opinion, as Some consider him our second best, if not our best offensive lineman.
ON this particualr play, the guy that knocks Matt's shoulder out of the socket went one-on-one with Eric Winston. & true to form, he puts out the worst cut block I have ever seen. The defender, who eventually runs around him & dislocates Schaubs shoulder, just walks around Eric.
But that's not what upset me about this play.
Duane Brown, who I've been calling our best offensive lineman, does the exact same thing. A pitiful cutblock, that misses. His man actually gets to Schaub before Winston's man. & it's not like these DE's did anything spectacular, they just jumped to the side, then proceeded to the QB. As a Matter of fact, neither seemed impeeded by these two beached whale looking bumps on the field.
Like I said... Duane Brown has been arguably our best offensive lineman. He usually isolates his guy, and keeps him far away from our QB.
But this looks like somebody said, "Duane, what you're normally doing isn't what we're looking for here. You see how Eric flops on the ground contributing absolutely nothing to the protection of our QB? That's what we'd like to see you do more of.... see here, how the pass rusher isn't bothered by what Eric is doing... like he's not even there.. to the fans, it's close enough to look like effort, but it's actually a well orchestrated flop.. that's what you need to do more of. Just get enough of the guy to make it look like he's very athletic.. nothing wrong with getting beat by a freak athlete."
Like somebody is teaching that crap.
