I have some things to say that really bug me. I feel being an outsider that is a fan of another team and who has stayed for years to see the growth gives me a perspective.

1) The Texans are a good team. Probably the best team they have had. But that next step is a *****. There was a quote by Bill Parcells.."You are what your record says you are." The losses are deserved and the wins are gained. Nothing more, nothing less. The Texans are a good team that can be average at times. Unlike what most expected I think the defense is being more consistent than the offense. You have to remember that the Colts ruled that first half and only were up 13-3

2) The refs didn't screw you. I've seen this thread after thread for 3 games this year. I'm not sure if it is a product of being so close but yet so far but it is a b.s excuse. The penalties were deserved. Maybe they didn't get their share but the Texans deserved the ones they got and that is called sloppy ball no matter what the Colts did. They need to take accountability.

3) I'll admit, being a Cowboy fan it has been hard buying in with all my years here. I couldn't with Carr and when he left I started to try again. I haven't been a fan of some of what the organization does with being so careful with each step. I am still not completely sold on Kubes. But I do like this team and think it has some strong leaders. From the outside in, they have no reason not to think every game should be winnable. That is a first.

With all that said it seems like a team at a crossroads. Maybe a year away. Hate to say that because I hate that saying and think coaches can only get so much leash. But I think a core is there. I'm not saying this as some kind of like "maybe next year" feel but right now it feels like a team learning how to win tight ones. I guess I hate seeing the excuses. Like I said think the being so close has brought people to making them but in reality it is about being a mature enough team to finish those games in all environments.

Frog, how can you say you couldn't be a fan of some things the organization has done, then say you are a cowboy fan? I hope to God you don't think that is what an organization should be. The Texans may not get everything right, but we don't have a history of signing convicts, felons and problem child players. Your team has a classless owner. Bob McNair wouldn't dream of paying someone like Pacman Jones to play, but that is a good example of cowboy type players.

I'm not sure what me being a Cowboy fan has to do with my comments that were pretty truthful and weren't blasting the team. It was about growing pains and I'll I get is that weak b.s. Give me a break. I've been here a long time..a real long time.. and realize that you can be smarter than that.

Frog, how can you say you couldn't be a fan of some things the organization has done, then say you are a cowboy fan? I hope to God you don't think that is what an organization should be. Did I say anything about thugs, etc?I've admitted to my own teams downfalls. I've also stuck up for them when people trot out the same tired b.s. while teams around the league are far worse. My comments were more about picking up options on Carr, hiring guys from within the same systems, etc, etc. Just because you think you are doing it by the book, doesn't make it right.

Reread what I wrote. There is nothing overly negative in it. In fact nothing close.

I find it funny a Cowboy fan is lecturing us about crying after a loss AND blaming refs ...

Kettle, I'd like you to meet the Pot.

This post has nothing to do with what I said. Please grow up and get over the Cowboy thing.

Not a good time to post this Frog. While your intentions may be good it comes off pretty darn condescending.

We didn't get beat by the officials at all today, but they obviously were catering to the home team and crowd. Just rewatch the game.

I do agree that the team is at a crossroads and will be all season long. Time is of the essence though. We are a couple of plays away from being on the other side of the tracks in the league. The time is now, and I don't think anyone could say it isn't after watching the game today.

Sorry, I don't believe there is anything condescending about it. That wasn't close to my intentions. If it came out that way, again, not my intentions.

I've just been here years and sat on the sideline only picking and choosing subjects like Carr, Schaub, etc. I just wanted to give my perspective on the team and there was nothing really to so with the Cowboys, etc. Just what I have seen.

I hate to say this but as painful as this game was to lose and as raw as the loss still is, give Frog a break. He is right. Who give a crap if he is a Cowboys fan, he is bringing in a more clear perspective to the situation in my opinion. BTW Frog, nice posts. We do need to get over it. We played tough and lost. The Defense really showed up to play today and we didnt get run out of the building. If they dont play sloppy as hell we win. That is the thing that pisses me off the most. The sloppy play. And dont anybody drop the "moral victory" moniker on me either b/c I recognize that a loss is a loss. We have 2 weeks to get healthy and kick some Titan azz. Thats all we can worry about at this point.

I'm not sure we really need a "thug", we just needed a couple people who play "aggresive." We got that in Pollard, and he has really affected guys like Cushing, DeMeco, Quin, and others. Our team is in transition, and the transition is a good thing. Soon we will win games like yesterday's.

I was just busting Frog's chops because I HATE the cowgirls. I grew up in Houston during the Luv Ya Blue days, in a beer joint on McCarty Drive. I learned early in life to hate 2 things - cowboys and steelers.

See and that is why I cheered for the Oilers as a kid. Growing up in the 70s in Ft. Worth as a massive Cowboy fan the Steelers were the hated SB rival. So when the Oilers played I wanted them to beat them too. Plus I had a brother that went to UT when Earl was there and Earl on the Oilers was all good.

The issue is consistency of penalties on both teams during a game. Something similar to a consistent strike zone.

A penalty is probably deserved when a flag is thrown in the NFL, but the issue is not calling a penatly that is deserved. In other words, selective penalties give a team a slight advantage or more chances to succeed.

Observe the way the Colts fans in that game were screaming for a flag from the very outset of the game and all the way through the game.

It was more magnified than I remember hearing when watching other games this year. Yeah, you'd hear some catcalls from far off places that you could distinguish as being a group of fans begging for a flag--Most usually the end zone fans since they're the rowdiest by nature.

But this? I thought my TV volume was broken. Then I began to understand, as the game went on, that this was a stadium full of people who were all in unison asking the refs to throw a flag if the play wasn't a success for their team.

Most crowds give a collective "groan" when they don't make a play. The Colts? Skip the groan and go right into the "HEY! We got hosed!" antics.

I can't wait until the Colts eventually fade away and they hit that section of road where it gets bumpy, and then it turns into nothing but huge potholes and dead-ends and "10 MPH" signs.

They've had their run. All they did yesterday was delay the inevitable.

We're not going to beat the Patriots, so there's loss number 5. And we can't possibly end at 11-5 or even 10-6. There'll be at least one more loss to someone we shouldn't lose to.

So I'm happy with waiting until next year. One more draft will be good enough.

I have to disagree here. I think we can and WILL beat the Patriots. And that attitude about "one more loss to someone we shouldn't lose to" needs to be checked at the door. In years past that may have been the case. But folks, your new and improved Texans don't roll over and play dead anymore. As I said on here yesterday, our Texans of old would have given up yesterday in the first half and that would have been it. Not any more. We have an attitude and a swagger and an expectance of winning now. We will go 6-1 at worst the rest of the way. End of discussion.

I understand what you are saying but I think if you DVR a game and watch every game as tight as fans are right now you can find ALOT of non-calls...non holdings, non contact, etc, etc. Plus you never know what the outcome of them being called will be. Now, believe ,me, I've seen games where I thought the refs all around blew games or made them unfair...Seattle in the SB comes to mind. But overall I've come to learn that with cleaner play from the team, those are things that won't affect you as much.

My issue is offensive holding. Indy was called for one holding penalty that was offset due to a Houston defensive penalty on the same play.

Houston was called for 2 offensive holding penalties during the game.

The issue is when Houston is on offense, the teams are let to play the game for the most part while the play is in action (let's disregard the false starts, and some offsides penalties to some extent). Meanwhile, while Indy is on offense, the Houston defense is tightly called on all aspects of the game and Indy is lightly called, if at all, on offensive holding.

It is a slight advantage for Indy because the officials called several illegal contacts and interference penalties that could have been off set on holding penalties.

I watched the game live and that is how I saw it. I have seen this for several years now consistently throughout the league, not just when the Texans play. I do not believe there is a conspiracy against the Texans, but a push for certain teams to succeed.

What I see is what appears to be a slight tilt and inconsistency of penalties depending which offense is on the field to the advantage of certain teams.

Despite all of this, the Texans could have and should have won that game. The tilt is just subtle and provides a slight advantage for certain teams.

I think the OP makes a lot of sense. We don't want our players making excuses for their shortcomings on the field, so why should we makes excuses for them and blame the refs. The first half play was sloppy and the Texans haven't matured enough to realize they need to play the whole game, not just the 2nd half, when you're up against an NFL team.

Thoroughly disagree. There's no excuse for such a disparity between penalties on teams. That's on the refs. Nobody is capable of playing perfect ball. If you look at one team that hard you have to look at the other and the refs didn't. That was like an NBA game vs. the Celtics or Lakers.

3) I'll admit, being a Cowboy fan it has been hard buying in with all my years here. I couldn't with Carr and when he left I started to try again. My biggest issue is with how well they recognize talent in drafts/FA, how well they can develop some talent....how in the hell do they get so bad at APPLYING that talent in games. How is it that we don't run 20 screen passes a game if that plays right into everyone on this team's strengths? Who cares if they've already seen it on film? EVERYONE knows that damn goalline play by now and yet they still run it.

Play can "look" sloppy when flag after flag gets thrown. But when the flags aren't legit, it's misleading.

Why?It has nothing to do with the Cowboys. They don't talk Texans there and I like it here. Everything I said about the team is justified and if it was a full time Texans fan they would be getting "rep" for keeping it real. People need to ignore the Cowboys stuff and just look at the message....that the Texans may be a year away. There was more positive in there than ripping them. People can't mask the the conssitent game to game play which involves one good half of ball before adjustments, untimely mistakes and some mental errors.

The problem that I've got with it.... You're telling me that I need to ignore the Cowgirls stuff and look at the message... well... you're the one who brought up the Cowgirls stuff in the message in the first place yet I'm supposed to ignore it?

Sorry Nitro, that is pathetic. I brought it up because no matter what I say, I'm considered "enemy"....despite being here for 3 years or more. Nothing in my message has anything to do with the Cowboys. It was a message from a fan that is here and who has been here for a while but who MOST know, grew up in Ft. Worth and who supports that other team. Unlike here in Houston, people can actually do both. It is pathetic that people can't look at the real message, which was about the Texans, and they take one word and get defensive. That is thin skinned.

My preface about being a Cowboy fan is that many here...TB, Cak, DB, Vinny and other long timers know I have been here in support despite my upbringing as being a fan of another team. None of that has anything to do with a message that isn't even harsh.

I think you honestly mean well, but the tag you wear (Cowboys fan) is going to hinder the effectiveness of what you say.

Taking a step back, for a minute, and not going into all our prior history between us, I have to say that that's what has always sorta' bothered me when you get into the mode of telling us how we should see things.

You could say what you need to say, but the "As a Cowboys fan..." is going to wrinkle some attitudes around here. Whether that's right or wrong is not the issue; it's just what it is I suppose. It's NFL fan-related attitudes.

Worth and who supports that team team. Unlike here in Houston, people can actually do both. It is pathetic that people can't look at the real message, which was about the Texans, and they take one word and get defensive. That is thin skinned.

I never considered you an enemy until you brought the Cowgirls up. So where's the real message you're talking about? Like I said, I've got mad respect for you. Sadly... that dwindles with every post in this thread. Lay off the blow. The paranoia isn't doing you any good.

My preface about being a Cowboy fan is that many here...TB, Cak, DB, Vinny and other long timers know I have been here in support despite my upbringing as being a fan of another team. None of that has anything to do with a message that isn't even harsh.

You edited after I responded. What you don't realize is that I know you're a Cowgirl fan. I've known about it for years now. I've been a part of this board for a long time too, HoustonFrog. It's not the issue.

You're not going to change people. You can be right as rain, all day long, and there are just some things that people will not adjust to.

It's clear that lots of people enjoy having you here, and you enjoy being here. From what I've sat back and observed (since this is the first time I have replied to your posts in probably several months) is that most fans on here have a limit they reach with people who hang here, and are cool about things, but then start throwing their weight around about "their team" and such. Even if it's done on a small scale, or with no ill will attached to the post whatsoever.

I hear what you're saying, about both the issue of griping about ref calls AND thin-skinned fans. But being right is not always accepted easily. And I wonder, too, if sometimes people get upset because it then turns into a "we have to agree with Frog" situation or it can't be resolved.

Just throwing out some thoughts here, nothing more and nothing less.

Frog,

Put yourself in our shoes on this one. You start a thread titled:

Get Over It...some realizations

And have this line in the first post.

3) I'll admit, being a Cowboy fan

Would you like someone coming in your "house" with these statements? You are looking at the non inflammatory stuff you wrote, but that is not what jumps out at me. It did strike me as condescending, and you do know how many of us here feel about Cowboys fans. Don't get all defensive about being flamed.

It is like, I can insult my sister, but you can't.

I'll try and cover most of this so as to be all inclusive.

Nitro, again, with all due respect, the "Cowboy fan" sentence was nothing more than a preface. The reason why it was included is because over the years people have told me to "get the hell out of here if you like the Cowboys." Similar to what you said. Many of these people have done so without me even mentioning it. So by me throwing it out I was trying to preempt the normal response I would get in some cases. It really has nothing to do with my opinion. It was just trying to tell people that sometimes it is easier to see the warts when you are on the fringe looking in. Nothing more, nothing less.

GP, I appreciate the nice repsonse. My problem with you in the past had nothing to do with a personal bent or trying to convince others I was right. It was more what I just explained in the paragraph above. The most neg rep I got here was from me telling people Carr wasn't capable. Most was reasoned out arguments but I was told to get lost. Same with the Schaub stuff. My problem was that people kept overlooking the argument and kept looking at it as a Frog vs us thing...he is a Cowboy fan, what does he know. All I know is that I respect alot of people here, the board, etc and most of the time it is an opinion. But I am glad that you and I can communicate and talk shop without that context. I think we agree on football more often than not.

Glass, I understand. I expected a little heat. My title was really poorly chosen. But my message was actually more positive than I usually am around here. Sorry if it offends some but, again, I was looking to preemptively strike the comments that I usually get in threads where the Texans get some criticism. I'm trying to be logical about what I see.

Like I said think the being so close has brought people to making them but in reality it is about being a mature enough team to finish those games in all environments.

don't listen to all the haters, frog. they are just morons. you have been a great member of the TT community.

I agree with this totally. The Texans had the lead and the ball in the 4th quarter. They couldn't finish the job. I'm proud they came back in the 2nd half, but going from being a good team to a very good team is a hard step.

Sometimes the lawyer in you gets the best of you. There's really nothing to argue here. You threw out a "dis" and I responded to it. Rationalize it all you want but like GlassHalfFull said... I can insult my sibling but nobody else is gonna. Especially someone who "prefaces" their thread by noting that they're a Cowgirl fan.

As for the comments that you made referring to the Texans... there's nothing wrong with what you said. I just did not like the arrogance of you having to empathize that you're a Cowgirl fan. It comes across as a lecture rather than a discussion.

I'm going to let you respond and let you have the last word because... I just don't care about this thread. I've said my piece. Rationalize it all you want. I could care less. This thread is an epic fail.

I'm not sure what has gotten under your skin but there is nothing to "rationalize." What I wrote was innocuous and you have taken it way too far. No troll forced me into anything. It was a rational thread that mentioned being a Cowboy fan once and it was prefacing a point that wasn't even a cutdown, only explaining being an outsider. I think you need to reread it and then check yourself. If you took football analysis that didn't even rip the team as a "dis" then you really need to take a break. Sorry you are so fired up but there is nothing else to say. You are wrong on the intent and wrong on the analysis. I already said the Title was wrong on my part but the message as is tame as there is and is a breakdown of the team. Seriously.

Also, you need to look in the mirror. You are telling me that no long time respected poster has ever uttered those things to me and that I'm letting trolls get under my skin. Yet you are a long time respected poster, something you acknowledge above, and you told me to take my talk to a Cowboy board and get out of here..........what am I missing? I think you are letting one word get the best of you.

I did not see anything wrong with the post either. He made some good observations.

Once the flag is thrown - right or wrong - makes no difference. The team has to put that aside and continue to play football.

We may very well be a year away from becoming a very good football team. Seems like we are close but still missing something. Not sure what, but something.

Sort of like doing a jigsaw puzzle and the last piece has fallen off the table. We are searching for it, but have not found it yet.

Talk about whoosh with the "dis" but whatever mate. I do have to respond to your accusation of me telling you to get out of here though. I never told you to get out of here. I asked if you were lost. Once again, lawyering to skew the truth to strengthen your argument.

LOL. There is no "skew." What do you call it when you tell someone to take their analysis of the Texans to another board? You stating it in the terms..."are you lost" doesn't make the intent any different. Talk about spin. You called me "the enemy." As much as I loathe the Cowboys, you are pretty spot on here. A few bad calls aside, we still had too many legitimate penalities. The turnovers before the headshot Schaub took were also pretty stupid, as was the decision to wait for the 2 minute warning after the Moats fumble. Whether they thought it was or not, they had the Colts on the ropes and should've got another play off quickly to keep them from any more time to gameplan on the next play.

People here, myself included, are still frustrated with these close games we can't close out. To paraphrase Denny "These teams were all who we thought they were, but we let 'em off the hook." Until we cut that crap out and are able to perform the way we should in clutch situations we will always be a mediocre team always on the outside looking in.

Texan for life, but not so jaded anymore...

OK, I'm again going to spell this out for you simply and then leave here because what you are doing is really embarrassing to yourself. You said about 8 posts back you were leaving but keep coming back to make it personal. You have single handedly tried to take away from the intent of the thread.

1) I've twice apologized and admitted the title was wrong..even said I should have changed it.

2) In an "explanation" regarding why I prefaced my point I mentioned that Cowboy fans are looked at as the "enemy." Instead of taking the explanation you then said you didn't think I was the enemy UNTIL I mentioned the Cowboys.

3) At what point have I gotten personal with anyone in here?My original post is about the state of the Texans and how I see them.

4) You call yourself a respected poster and that no respected poster...like the ones listed.. would call me out or tell me to leave for being a Cowboy fan alone, yet you have a) posted the Cowboy board with the inference that I take my opinion there b) called me a liar c) told me I'll say whatever to avoid the truth d) used the phrase "Cowgirl" fan multiple times e) told me to "Lay off the blow. The paranoia isn't doing you any good." That is mature, respectable and considered sound reasoning?

And most of this is after I nicely and truthfully explained my reasoning with this paragraph....if anyone can find something that makes me a liar in this paragraph, please tell me. Nitro, you can talk all you want but the fact is I'll always leave threads with dignity because I won't stoop to your name calling and spinning in circles. Again, if anyone has thoughts on the original premise, proceed.

To respond to your "look at the last two pages" comment... 33 posts out of 48 posts in this entire thread have something to do with how you labelled yourself a Cowgirl fan... Yet you still think this thread is productive. You still are missing the "dis" that you issued in your first post and thread title.

LMAO. Now you're getting silly. You just like to argue for the sake of arguing. You called yourself the enemy first, HoustonFrog. You made it sound like I was calling you the enemy. My statement was a direct response to yours. Skew the truth some more won't you?

I take it personal when someone skews something I said and makes it into something that's simply not true. You are an expert at this. No, that's not really a good thing.

:butterfly:

LOL at all this "enemy" business. Some of my fellow Texan fans are wound way too tight.

He makes a perfectly reasonable post, but all you guys see is "Cowboy fan" and flame away.

All the Cowboy hate smacks of an inferiority complex. Makes us look weak as a fanbase.

OK, I'm again going to spell this out for you simply and then leave here because what you are doing is really embarrassing to yourself. You said about 8 posts back you were leaving but keep comign back to make it personal.

1) I didn't see any apology as to the thread title. I obviously missed that. Why not direct me back to it instead of skewing my beefs into something else?

2) Skew skew skew.

3) What?

4) Yeah. I'm respected and so are you! In fact, you are more respected more than me! As to respond to a,b,c,d,e and whatever other letter... LMAO!

I had to come back after you kept skewing something that I said into something else. I'll always come back for those. I don't allow people to tarnish something that I said into something that's not true.

What name calling? Liar? Okay!

There seems to be a rash of this(arguing to the point of insulting whether intelligence or otherwise) lately. Myself included.

Arguing should really be kept to just debating without the insults.

I do agree with this. This is definitely something I tend to not let go.

Puck the Cowgirls!! I'll be proud to have an inferiority complex if it means hating on the Cowgirls. I'll do and be whatever it takes.

Now that this thread has probably run its course...

To the board... I really don't have a problem with HoustonFrog. I think he's a great poster and am glad to have him here. Skew that into whatever you want to skew it into. I didn't like something he said. It reeked of smugness whether it was intentional or not. I'll respond to it anyday.

I guess it just doesn't bother me when fans of other teams give their 2 cents about my team.

If it was all Texans fans here, then this would be a boring place.

I don't want to sidetrack such an important debate but was wondering if those of you mentioning your sisters would post their picture? Just saying...
