Two Texans linebackers are hurting


With a matchup at Cincinnati on the slate, both of the Texans' starting outside linebackers are on the Week Six injury report.


Rookie strong-side linebacker Brian Cushing, the club's leading tackler, needed an MRI on his foot Thursday and missed practice. Weak-side linebacker Zach Diles, a new addition to the injury report, had "limited" participation Thursday due to an in-practice [knee] injury.


"We're expecting him to play," coach Gary Kubiak said of Cushing after the workout. "I think he'll be alright," Kubiak added of Diles.


Still, the injuries are concerning for a Texans defense that has surrendered more rushing touchdowns and a higher yards-per-carry average than anyone in the league.


On Sunday, Houston will try to stop NFL rushing leader Cedric Benson (for real). In Week 5, Benson became the first back in 40 games to top 100 rushing yards against the Ravens.

just saw an update on Cushing on Chron.com (i think). He said he is just sore and could have played today if it was a game. He is just sitting to be 100% on sunday.

Seems like nothing to worry about for either

If something is wrong they will sign a LB and bring him up to the active roster. We only have 5 and we cant afford an injury.

Yet they cut Buster Davis who's looked good.

I can't figure this team out. Oh well.

Darnell Bing's not exactly a linebacker now is he? Kind of a tweener if you will?

Actually, he's been bounced back and forth from safety to linebacker to safety to linebacker.

They signed Bing yesterday, Diles got nicked today. I think that was the case of them trying to get a better speed backer on the practice squad. Sucks because I think Davis is a better LB but Bing may be able to cover more positions for this jack of all trades staff.

Not sold that Cushing's absence from today's practice is anything more than precautionary. The guy has a reputation for going 100% at all times and hurting himself for it so it would be wise to handle him properly.

I know... that's my point? Maybe tweener is the wrong word? He's too big for one and too small for the other is my understanding?

I see him as a man without a position in the NFL but boy can he HIT!

Kubiak also said that linebacker Brian Cushing is "good to go" for Sunday, despite a foot injury that kept the rookie out of practice on Thursday. Cushing took all of his normal practice reps on Friday.

It's very difficult to believe much of what Kubiak ever has to say about injuries.

If the Cush took reps on Friday its safe to say he's gonna play.

Unless I hear X-Y weeks/IR I dont really bother getting upset about injury status. It's so obscured in order to keep opposing teams guessing, that unless we have the bye week coming, it's fairly useless information :)

offense needs to keep defense off the field more these guys are getting too many reps.

It's the Bill Belichick method of injury reporting. Tell as little as you can get away with.
