View Full Version : Why do we stink so bad every year?
Not being a wiseguy, just wondering how we can be so horrible. Is it coaching, players, the owner, bad luck? I know we have won some meaningless games at the end of the year to get to .500 before, but that doesn't make any difference. It has never seemed like we were improving or the team really feeling like we can get to the playoffs. If there is a way to install some heart in the team, it would go a long way to ending the "Groundhog Day" effect.

I think it starts at coaching.
We have had, at best, average coaches for the entire term of this organization. Kubes is a great guy and the players love him, but to say that he is an above average coach would be a lie.
I think this team has talent. There is no team in the league that great players at every position. The coaching staff, year in and year out, has put our teams at a disadvantage. Whether it is motivation or x's and o's, our team starts off at a disadvantage when we take the field.
Im telling u intill we Tear down that pimple known has the astrodome and replace it with a Fan FUN ZONE !!!!/Parking lot we are not going anywhere

I think it starts at the top. Not every successful businessman is capable of being a successful NFL owner. Bob McNair is a bit of a dumbass when it comes to competing in the NFL. I'm certain he'll always have a "profitable" NFL team but he'll never win. He'll maybe have some stars all line up from time to time and post a winning season but he's missing whatever it is that makes NFL franchises competitive. Is he too nice? Is he too fair? I don't think so. I think he's just got a big empty spot where his competitive nature should be. He says the right things but I don't think for a moment that he goes home and loses any sleep over the fact that he basically has spent the past 7 years stealing money from supporters of his team. The way Bob sees things he's provided you with "value" for your entertainment dollar. He's built "Texan's World" over at Reliant and given you a place to cook out and party. He's given us all uniforms and koozies and caps. We've bought it all and he's sold out "x" number of consecutive games. He's brought the NFL back to Houston so he figures you should be grateful and content. The number are all there so what's the problem?
He'll never get it and he'll hire an endless chain of nice-guy coaches and GM's and consultants who will never get it. He isn't driven to want to defeat the other team. He's driven to want to top last seasons sales figures.
Bob hires the GM who drafts guys who can't elevate their game to this level. The guys who can't tackle or cover. Bob hires the coaches who teach these players the basic steps of the game or get them to all be on the same page on the one day of the week when it's incredibly important that they all show up and do their jobs.
It's Bob. He's clueless and his entire organization reflects it in everything they do.
