10K sounds a bit lenient for something that could've ended in a devastating injury. Meh

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was fined $10,000 by the NFL on Friday for his crack-back block on Houston defensive back Eugene Wilson in a preseason game.

Of course, this fine is chump change for Brett Favre. But after that block, some sort of punitive measures were certainly needed.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was fined $10,000 by the NFL on Friday for his crack-back block on Houston defensive back Eugene Wilson in a preseason game.

The play happened on Monday night at Houston in Favre's first extensive action since he signed with the Vikings on Aug. 18.

The 39-year-old lined up at receiver in Minnesota's version of the wildcat offense. Rookie receiver Percy Harvin took the snap and started running around the left end in Favre's direction. Despite playing with sore ribs, the quarterback crouched and threw his body at Wilson's legs to cut him down.

The game was televised nationally and the block caused an uproar in Houston and elsewhere around the league. Wilson injured his knee on the play and defensive players have long considered that type of block a dirty play.

“What was up with that?” Wilson said after the game when asked about the block. “Seriously, what was up with that?”

Favre had only been practicing for 14 days since ending his second retirement to join the Vikings. He said he wasn't trying to injure Wilson and was only trying to help Harvin on the run, and knock a little rust off.

“I will be 40 years old in October and (was) weed-eating 13 days ago,” Favre said. “I wasn't thinking about throwing blocks.”

The Vikings finish the preseason Friday night with a home game against the Cowboys. Favre is not expected to play.

I really had hoped that he would go all Trent Green on that play...

Seems like a flagrant illegal action that could end a player's career + one that hurts like hell, should be worth at least a one game suspension.

If it was a lesser known player there probably would of been some kind of suspension.

But it's Brett Favre and he can pretty much do whatever he wants. Im expecting a ESPN Favre network soon.

Watch Favre use the bathroom, watch favre clip his toenails, watch favre ride his tractor, now with Jaws and Gruden on commentary! "No one shifts gears like Brett Jaws."

I'm waiting for him to pull a Jerry Glanville and start racing in Nascar.

Thatd be awesome. Brett would take forever to make a decision. "Turn left or turn right i just cant decide."

"Brett you can only turn left you moron!."

Good, the whole thing really pisses me off...I don't care who you are (or think you are), it was BLATANT and repercussions should be coming.

Brett, you continue to disappoint me....:thumbdown

Farve knows better he should have engaged Wilson instead of coming on strong from the side like he did. 10,000 is pocket change for a guy like Brett Farve. I'm a Farve fan I don't know if he ment any harm but the NFL rules are NFL rules and there should should not be a doubld standard but there is. If it was any other player the fine would have been bigger and should have been in this case for Brett Farve JMO.

Weak sauce!

I'm not wishing bad on the guy, but after seeing his "awe shucks" press conference after the game, I no longer hope to see him end his career with success. That was a weak little attempt to CYA on his part, and instead of apologizing, he said something about his age and all that jazz. Whateva', Favre! Go Sage!

I have never been a fan of Favre and just ambivalent about him personally. I have never understood why people put him on such a high pedestal.

Since this continuing to retire and comeback saga, and now this crackback block, I have come to the conclusion that Favre is not the person people think he is personally.

Admire the man for his football accomplishments, but leave the rest of the stuff alone.

Farve is getting on my nerves with all his BS publicity. I'm glad to see this, even if it is chump change to him.

So, he thinks he's young enough to start in the NFL, and supposedly lead the Vikings to the playoffs, but for that one dirty play...

"*sniff sniff* I'll be 40 in October"

Seriously? Seriously?

*sniffle sniffle* I'm almost 40 and was weed eating 13 days ago, and not thinking about blocking.

Real weak. Man up, and apologize for a play that might not have been intentionally dirty but, was still illegal and could've resulted in hurting someone badly.

The agent for Houston Texans safety Eugene Wilson doesn't believe the NFL's penalty handed out to Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is harsh enough especially since he said Wilson injured his left knee and might not be able to play in the Texans season opener against the N.Y. Jets. Sims does not believe the punishment fit the crime.

"Absolutely not," Sims said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "Certainly there have been similar blatant infractions like this where a player has received a one-game suspension which would have cost Favre a whole lot more money."

"Eugene went back out on the field after the game hoping Favre would come up to him and apologize and express some concern and that didn't happen," said Sims. "Eugene then was hoping Favre would send him an apology through some sort of correspondence, but that hasn't happened either. Eugene is still Hopeful Favre will apologize to him."

I hope Wilson isn't holding his breath waiting for Favre to do anything - the old guy is waaay too self centered and apparently thinks he is King of the NFL.

I have been a Favre fan but his pressure afterwards was bull****. I hope someone gives him one just as a welcome out of retirement.

1/1000th of his salary gone from THIS year. AWW SHUCKS I ALMOST BROKE A GUY'S KNEE/CAREER BECAUSE UNLIKE THIS AND MANY OTHER GUYS I'VE BEEN WEED-EATING INSTEAD OF PRACTICING FOOTBALL.

I only need to ask the NFL, "why bother?"....
