7. AFC South (order of finish)

Gene's AFC South picks
1. Jacksonville
2.Colts
3.Titans
4.Texans

Jacksonville Jaguars -- A calculated flier pick in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. Calculated because the Jags have a coach who knows what he's doing (Jack Del Rio), a running back who is in his hyphen prime (Maurice Jones-Drew), a quarterback whose TD vs. INT numbers should improve (David Garrard) and a defense that will knock you into the Atlantic Ocean. A flier because they were 5-11 last year and play in the same division as the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans and the better-than-you-think Houston Texans. But the Jaguars' two problem areas -- offensive line and wide receiver -- are going to be considerably better than a season ago.

It's not out of the realm of possibilities. I like to think we have overtaken the Jaguars but they had disastrous injuries across their offensive line for the whole season last year. They look to have retooled their OL and they retooled their DL the year before, so they could be better than we all think.

I think Gene isn't really knocking the Texans as much as he just thinks the Jags, Titans, and Colts are better. As we all know, its a tough division and has been for some time now. Maybe the Jags move to LA and they move to the AFC West and we could then get the KC Chiefs.

At least Manning and Collins are nearing retirement. I will be a happy man the day Peyton hangs up his cleats. I am sick of seeing that guy just kick our tails year after year.

They could be improved, but it's hard to imagine them finishing first. You never know though. That's why they play the games right?

I don't doubt that Jacksonville will be improved this year and give us a headache, but them taking the division is silly. Indy and the half-breeds will be above Jacksonville in the standings at the end of the year.

Jacksonville will be in last place again this year.

I think every year before preseason some guys take a shot in the dark, so in case they are right they can point to it. I think this is the case for Gene.

They did retool the OL but mcuh as I liked Eugene Monroe as a prospect he's going to have to man the RT spot and I think teams will pick on him for pass rushing. MJD is also a little knicked up after the Washington game and he's the only for sure legit RB on the roster unless Rashad Jennings gets up to speed real quick or they hand off to Greg Jones maybe.

Garrard is accurate but, his line for the first half wasn't impressive far as YPC goes. Holt will be able to anchor the WR corps but what's really after him? Ernest Wilford, Troy Williamson and a line of rookies.

They might've retooled the DL but, it all depends on how big of steps Groves and Harvey make this year.

To be honest I think the Jags will be better this season, but the question is how much? I'm not sure they have the talent to overtake Indy, Tenn or the Texans. If they get healthy they'll be tough, but I don't see them leaping the pack to the top.

Groves has been playing well and looks like he's improved over last season, but with Harvey.....not so much.

Case in point, that douche bag Peter King. How often has that coffee swilling ass-hat picked the Jags?

It seems like they were THE sexy pick for years and we always seemed to kick their ass. I'd put more money on them moving to LA this year before I would bet on them winning the division.

I think I'd be a mistake to underestimate Jacksonville. They are not as bad a they performed last year.

Sweet Jeebus, why in the world do we have to be in the toughest division in the NFL?

I wouldnt be too suprised if this happened. The Texans defensive concerns are raising a red flag. Are we really ready to take the next step and become a playoff type team.

The Colts have a new coaching staff and talk of them getting away from the Cover 2 scheme could take them a little while to adjust too.

How much will the Tacks miss Haynesworth??

It also seems like everytime it looks like Delrio's days are numbered the Jags have a good season and save his ass.
