I don't know anything about him, says he was the Chargers 4th CB and he's big for the position, 6-1" 205. I hope he can help and plays better than what the article refers to.

Nothing on the transactions page at ht.com about who got cut. What's the current roster limit? Is it 65?

80 until the 1st then it is down to 75 I think.

Here's his draft scout page.....not overly impressive numbers.

Did they say he signed a second round tender this year?

Gordon missed 2 tackles against Arizona last week......one on STs and the other playing CB. Evidently, that may have been part of a decision to release him.

Came across this SI 2006 draft profile (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2006/draft/players/18675.html). Leaving out the tackling/physicality problem, I felt like I was reading a description of Reeves when we first obtained him.

BIO: Defensive All-Conference selection as a senior after posting 41/4/1. Averaged 23.7 yards on 19 kick returns and 17.7 yards on 18 punt returns. Also lined up at receiver, totaling 9/91/1. All-Conference return specialist after his junior campaign.

POSITIVES: Athletic prospect with outstanding size/speed numbers. Adjusts to make the play, smooth in transition and displays excellent vision handling the ball. Extends or gets vertical to make a play on the ball and has soft hands. Also has a burst of speed and acceleration.

NEGATIVES: Falls asleep on defense, not quick reading receivers. eyes and slow locating the ball. Lacks an aggressive nature to his game and stays away from physical contact.

ANALYSIS: A prospect with the underlying athletic skills to compete at the next level, Gordon is first a return specialist who could also be used as a fifth receiver or seventh defensive back.

Yes, they must have seen something they liked for 1.45 million.

So he signed a second round tender, then they just cut him?

What am I missing here?

Just a crappy preseason and camp, and playing with no fire. That's what I gleened from the article.

Charger FAns are happy to see him go. (http://forum.signonsandiego.com/showthread.php?t=100038)

& I found this article (http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/aug/24/cornerback-gordon-released-chargers/?chargers)

The team's decision makers said they wanted Gordon to be able to have a chance to sign elsewhere. But multiple sources said the team was displeased with his lack of physicality and effort on special teams.

Gordon missed a tackle on the opening kickoff last Saturday in Arizona, helping the Cardinals' LaRod Stephens-Howling to an 89-yard return.

Sounds like another player full of potential.

I think this was our best shot of getting a player named Cletis .

That is how it is for every team, including the Steelers during preseason.

Meh, there will be more to choose from when the rosters are cut down, especially the last cut.

We should be hovering like vultures over teams like the Ravens, Steelers and other teams that are stacked with DB talent. Possibly even a DT out there somewhere.

Reminds me of a story.....

We've got a family member who got confused regarding a part of the female anatomy and called it a cletis. Not as a tongue in cheek thing, but very serious.

I guess Deltha O'Neal has been less than impressive so far? Maybe it doesn't have anything to do with it though.

Maybe the same thing going on with Dunta is what is happening to him. He just didn't want to be there.

I saw him in that game, but I can't remember when, how long. He, evidently didn't stand out, one way or the other.

Oneal can't press since he doesn't have make up speed. Robinson needs to get into camp. When I saw him play last week I didn't change my mind.

Instead of collecting warm training camp bodies that are going to be cut, would someone tell Kubiak and Smith that Chris McCallister and Mike McKenzie are still available. Both of them are better than what we've got on the field now.

That's what I thought about Deltha O'Neal, but they got him playing with the third string.

Maybe Cletis will start Monday night?:chickendance:

Nick Ferguson was going off on him when the Saints were driving down to the Bullpen 20 yard line. He screwed up some sort of coverage, and they kept throwing to his side.

I am hoping next years draft goes something like this
1st Trevard Lindley Kentucky CB
2nd Myron Lewis Vanderbilt CB/FS
3rd Kam Chancellor Virg Tech FS/SS

That would help this team outl.

That would be awsome.

It wouldn't fill the biggest hole on the defense (a DT that can help stop the run) but if those guys were available when we were picking it would certianly upgrade the back 7. The back 7 could use an upgrade. IMO

Then we could spend money on a FA or trade for a run stopping DT.

Just a follow up..................Cletis was picked up by the Lions after being released........and has now been cut by the Lions yesterday..............in other words, cut by 3 teams in 1 month...........that's what I call unrecognized talent looking for a home.:pop:
