The Cleveland Browns have announced the acquisition of veteran offensive lineman Fred Weary.
Weary, one of the original members of the Houston Texans, was a third-round pick in 2002. He started 43 games and appeared in 63 from his rookie year through 2007.
Last August, he landed on injured reserve, missing the entire 2008 season.
Weary spent his entire career at right guard, the same position played throughout most of 2008 in Cleveland by Rex Hadnot.
Hadnot initially was told by doctors that he suffered a torn ACL on Thursday. The diagnosis has since changed to a torn MCL, with Hadnot possibly being available for Week One.
But the Browns still need to bodies to get through the preseason, and at a minimum Weary will help in that regard.
