A week before reporting to the Houston Texans training camp, Kris Brown walked around Memorial Stadium's synthetic field instructing area kickers.

The 11-year National Football League veteran, along with former NFL punter Bill Lafleur, spent Saturday with former University of Nebraska teammate and Memorial defensive coordinator Clint Finley teaching the art of kicking. Fifteen area athletes attended the camp, soaking in Brown and Lafleur's experience with the hopes of improving their own game.

"Sometimes it takes an experienced kicker and punter to come in and teach the subtle nuances of kicking for them to improve," said Brown, whose Texans report to camp on Friday and are coming off their second straight 8-8 season. "You can make the smallest adjustments in kicking and punting and it can make a huge difference. If you change a few little things, you can see a big improvement right way."

Doubting Brown's kicking credentials would be foolish. In 2008, he connected on 29-of-33 field goals for a career-high 87.6 percent conversion rate. He also made all 37 of his extra-point kicks.
