The 2008 season was expected to be the potential coming out party for Gary Kubiak's Texans, and then Mother Nature decided to throw the young franchise a major curveball who went by the name of 'Ike'.

That is.. Hurricane Ike.

The deadly hurricane that ravaged the coast of Texas also damaged the Texans Reliant Stadium, forcing the Texans to take their bye week in Week Two of the season and play three consecutive road games to start the year before finally having their home opener in October against the defending AFC South Champion Colts. That's a total crock. Ike had nothing to do with the coaches sticking their heads up their arse on the fake punt in Jacksonville. Or not adjusting to Garrad's QB draws. Or the Rosencopter. Or inexplicably calling another bootleg on the very next possession. No, the Texans should have been 2-2, and still in the hunt. It was poor decisions, both on the field and on the sideline, that sent them to 0-4. Not Hurricane Ike.

So....you don't think natural disasters affect coaches? They are not human and immune? I agree there were bad decisions made, I'm just sayin....

Saying what? Did you screw up your job because of Ike? I was back to work on Monday morning, and I wouldn't have gotten any slack had I dropped the ball on the job. Most of the folks in Houston were in the same boat. I'm glad Centerpoint's employees didn't use the hurricane as an excuse to not perform their duties.

It's one thing for some internet writers and fans to blame the Texans woes on the hurricane. But, I've heard the same crap from some of the players and coaches. Show some ownership for your failures. Because that's what they were. Failures.

2009 can redeem those mistakes. The first step is to look inside rather than look for excuses.
