Well it looks to me like Jay Cutler sure was a smart jelly bean for his whole act that he pulled to get away from Mcdaniels. Mcdaniels just totally screwed up the beginning of this draft and has already gotten rid of that 1st round pick that that they had for next season out of that trade.

Trading up to get an average TE who is just a blocker when they already have one in Graham who won SB's with NE? What is this guy thinking. I just checked the Denver Broncos boards, and fans over there are going crazy. They are all blowing gaskets like you wouldn't believe. I don't think Mcdaniels will be there long at all. This guy just shredded their team apart, and they don't have any real QB right now either. :panic:

I'm not impressed with what they did today.

They remind me of us in 2003 a bit, just with an '04-esque draft.

It seems like McDaniels is trying to be Bill Belichek of the west. Some of the moves he's made are downright crazy. It seems like his ego is so big that he thinks he can fix anything because of the system he came from.

Rd 1, Pick 12 (12) Moreno, Knowshon RB
Rd 1, Pick 18 (18) Ayers, Robert LB
Rd 2, Pick 5 (37) Smith, Alphonso CB
Rd 2, Pick 16 (48) McBath, Darcel S
Rd 2, Pick 32 (64) Quinn, Richard TE

I kind of like their draft. I'm not a big fan of what they did to get there. Trading a 1st next year (they had 2 before that trade) and trading their QB, but they did get some quality players here. Ayers is supposed to be a big time 3-4 end. Alphonso Smith might be the most instinctive corner in the draft, probably understands how to get interceptions more than any other corner in the draft. McBath is a good player, maybe a reach with that pick. Quinn is a good blocking tight end that could develop as a receiver. I love Moreno, I think he can be really dangerous in a more spread out offense.

They got some good players IMO, it's just the way they went about doing it. Sometimes I think we can get a little carried away in a value discussion, but if you get good players it doesn't really matter how you got them.

They are sitting here with these remaining picks:
Rd 4, Pick 14 (114)
Rd 4, Pick 32 (132)
Rd 5, Pick 13 (149)
Rd 6, Pick 12 (185)
Rd 7, Pick 16 (225)
Rd 7, Pick 26 (235)

You can say what you want about McDaniels, and I was surely thinking 'WTH' for much of the day regarding Denver but the guy is not afraid to do it his way. He's not sitting there scared of picking this guy or making this trade. He is going after the guys he wants.

I'm confused about the TE they TRADED UP to get. Did I hear the announcers right when they said he had 6 catches last year?

He is a blocking TE, plus he didn't get alot of opportunities to catch passes at North Carolina. The Broncos have Scheffler, who is a great receiving TE. I think that's a good pick IMO. They do also have Graham but obviously McDaniels and the Broncos don't think he fits what they want to do. Graham will be 31 in November.

Orton or Simms at QB is the real issue, and McDaniles DAMN sure wasn't going to swallow his pride and trade up to grab Sanchez. No, McDipstick is going to trot out two very awkward, under-achieving QBs this season no matter what.

Which makes the Moreno pick a Moron-o pick. Defenses are going to load up to stop the run, knowing the QBs for the Broncos can't hurt them with their arm(s). It'll be David Carr all over again: Happy feet, running backward and out of bounds, dump-offs to the RB, sacks, fumbles, interceptions, and Barrel Man actually throwing his barrel onto the field in disgust. And nobody wants to see that, do they?

Ayers might work out OK.

The TE pick was very stupid. No other way to put it.

And the CB might work out.

I give it a "B" because I think Moreno is intriguing, Ayers might be OK, and the CB pick looks like an OK pick, but the TE and giving up next year's 1st rounder is puzling.

I think "B" is generous, concerning what McDookieface has done with his QB situation. Orton and Phil's kid. Sweet Moses that's scary.

Give me one good reason Orton won't be good in Denver. I don't think you saw him play last season.

It'll be popular to dislike the Broncos draft but I think it was bold and could turn out fantastic. I see why they chose the players they did, and we will see if it is the Bears pick from the 1st round or the Broncos pick from the 1st round that they traded for Alphonso Smith. It's probably whichever is the lowest pick.

Knowshon Moreno was a surprise. Haven't they already signed like 4-5 free agent RB's already? They've got Buckhalter, Arrington, Lamont Jordan, and Peyton Hillis along with whoever else was on their roster.

I think both Quinn and McBath were huge reaches.

Ayers and Smith... I think those were good picks.

The trades they made were... pretty crazy.

Buckhalter, Arrington, and Jordan are all not starting quality players IMO. Selvin Young should probably be a #2 RB. Buckhalter adds good depth and so does Arrington but they really did need a starting RB, and they got a damn good one.

McBath was a reach but Quinn may not be. If he can be a damn good blocker, that's all they really need. Plus he can grow into a receiver. Scheffler is one of the best receiving TEs in the league.

We'll see how the repercussions of the trades turn out, but I like their players.

No I didn't watch him much, instead I just watched some Three Stooges re-runs and felt like it was the same thing. Maybe even a tad bit better.

I mean, seriously...you're going to pick a fight with me about Kyle Orton?

Next time he really tears up the league with that Hall of Fame career he's building, let me know. I've got some Keystone Cops films to look at.

I don't get it though. Plenty of blocking TE's are available later in the draft. Heck, why not pick up a small OT as an UDFA and convert him into that blocking TE?

I'm not necessarily knocking the pick I'm just confused, that's all.

Well, Quinn is supposed to have pass catching skills, they just were not utilized in that North Carolina offense. Remember that North Carolina had 3 WRs drafted this weekend (Nicks, Tate, and Foster). Also, he is considered to be a top 3 blocking TE in the draft.

The guy actually had a pretty solid season last year. Almost 3,000 yards 18 TDs 12 INTs, 58.5% completion percentage. He won't tear the league up like your saying, but why does he need to in order to deserve recognition. I think he can be a decent guy to play now while you find your future franchise QB and build your team.

And I already know someone will try to ask me "well they had a franchise QB and they got rid of him, why?" I don't know why. Maybe they just felt more comfortable with a guy they knew in Matt Cassell and when Cutler caught wind of that they could never make it up to him.

It was a bonehead move but when you look past it, the Broncos made some pretty gutsy and interesting moves in this draft.

I have no problem with Orton at QB. He impressed me last year. I have more of an issue with switching to a 3-4 and not getting any personel for it. Ayers is not a 3-4 end, he's a 4-3 end or an OLB. No nose tackle. Just don't like much of what they did.

Looking back at the players they drafted... I actually like it.

With that said, I can't get past the fact they essentially traded Jay Cutler for Robert Ayers and Alphonso Smith.

So what do you base his talent on? He's a good QB, ignorance gets you nowhere. He, Tyler Thigpen, and Orlovsky were good last season, but you were too busy bashing whoever to watch football.

How's this, name two WRs that played for Chicago, since you obviously don't know anything about Orton's play last season.

Broncos burn 3 1st Rounders and don't address their QB situation. Epic Fail.

If I was a Broncos fan, I would be burning McDaniels in effigy right about now.

When they passed on Orakpo, I was flabbergasted....and if they wanted Freeman, they allowed TB to leapfrog them for a 6th Round pick in the 1st Round. Were they not willing to meet that price to get their guy or are they deluded enough to think Orton/Simms is going to get the job done?

What a joke. As a former Oilers fan, I can't say I feel that bad for the Broncos. They can bite me for all I care and when this house of cards fall it couldn't happen to more of a jerk than McDaniels.

Matt Castle was a 7th round pick..... Tom Brady was a 6th round pick.... I'm thinking their were some intangibles they have in common, that McDaniels didn't see in this years draft class.

I like Orton too. I don't think he's a "franchise" QB, but he's more than capable of running an offense.

I think the Broncos had a nice haul in the draft. They did, however, screw themselves in order to do so.

I watched just about every Broncos game last season. Believe me, Cutler isn't over rated. He played really well for them last season and had to throw the ball all season long and teams knew it.

It might take him a while to get going in Chicago though since it's a new offense and there really aren't any WR's there.

You can't take that approach when building your team. Those are the exception, not the rule. The jury is out on Castle for now, cause he could be a one year wonder like Rob Johnson, Scott Mitchel, ect...
