Texans v. Patriots - 3 weeks (bye notwithstanding) after 10/25

UPDATE: Aside from the Week 1 game against Buffalo and Week 7 game against Tampa Bay, this isn't the actual Patriots' schedule. Someone with the Patriots' site just randomly slotted the opponents the Patriots will face this season.

That's a very good openning game. Very winnable. If true, the season is already off to a better start. I'll see everyone on the yellow lot at 8:30 am on Sept. 13th! And, I'm in the bullpen this year!! Yippee! Maybe fans won't be tapping me down and complaining about my Petey Faggins chants.

Haha that would make for an awesome grudge matchup but I believe there are special 'AFL' games against other 'original' AFL teams in which they will be worn. Interesting thought though.

First thoughts.

I really think the league tried to make-up for what they put us through last season (though not totally their fault). We can easily be 6-1, 5-2 by Week 8, and the Buffalo game in Week 8 is going to be very dependent on weather. Patriots in the last week, they might have a spot clinched already, might rest a few players, you never know. Gave us a bye before arguably our biggest game of the year, followed by Indy and then Jax, allows us to fix anything that needs fixing in the most important stretch of the season.

I like the look of this schedule, and am really hoping we have a good draft. It looks like we could be having a lot of fun this year.

I like this schedule upon first glance - spacing of divisional games in clusters, the late bye week, no potential weather issues and potentially playing three games late, with teams that could be playing for nothing.

What concerns me is that Cardinals game, given that we will have not faced a pass oriented team before we play them.

Weeks 5-9 could be our true test. Ifwe could pull a 3-2 or 4-1 during that stretch, we will for sure be in the playoffs. Not to say wks 11-17 isn't hard, because it definitely is, but the 4 out of 5 road games should scare any normal Texans fan.

Yep.

This year's schedule is the total opposite of last years, in terms of starting off. It's eerie how inverse this schedule is compared to last's year.

We had to face three playoff team on the road in the first 4 games, with the 2nd week being the one at home against a non-playoff team originally in the Ravens.

It's a bit frustrating that we don't get much if any respect, but it just makes it all the more sweeter when we show up and hit the more heralded teams in the mouth.

The back to back road games in Wk 8 against the Bills and Wk 9 against the Colts could be a stumbling block heading into the bye week. The opener should be fun against the Jets and Rex Ryan's defense.

I believe it is a perfect scedule for them. Agreed. the back to back road games then....get the bye then take car of business the next two games...

If the offensive line comes together, continues to improve....Schaub & Slaton stays healthy..... o-line stays healthy.....

Agreed. we just got a kiss from Rodger. Nobody's fault but their own if they do not take advantage of it.

We'll see. So we're twelve and two ...how else would you rather end the season than a game against a team you've already beaten four consecutive times...and arguably the best team in the NFL over the last ten years with home feild advatage thourgh out the play offs on the line ? But as you posted they must first learn not to play down to the competion on the road... pull a rabbit out of the hat after their bye week. We'll see.

You can bet money they won't get another sechedule like this one in 2010.

Damn! Am I the only one who does NOT like this schedule? All home games are NOON games except for MNF, and I was hoping we would play ANYONE other than Tenn on Monday night!! They get enough National exp, I don't like sharing with them!! Really pisses me off since Bud will make sure they wear the old Oiler uni's for that game. FOUR division games in a row??! Sorry guys, but, that SUCKS! JMO! Three home games by Oct 4th! Get ready for some HOT tailgating!! BORING December with three away games! One of our worst schedules we've ever had!

I am not sure they can wear those Unis without the Texans approval because it is not their traditional road Uniforms. Just like when Nolan and Del Rio wanted to wear suits and The NFL said yes but only for two games. They wore them for home games and not road. Besides, I have never seen a team wear a throw back uniform against a team who does not have one.

So I doubt it will happen.

There is no Sunday night game scheduled for week 17. Right now it is listed as TBD. If you look over the games for that week I could see the Texans-Patriots getting moved to SNF. It would be the last game of the 2009 regular season and every TV would be tuned in to see the Texans clinch the division title. (ok, so it might be a bit premature, but of all the matchups I see this one having possible playoff implications.) At first glance there doesn't seem to be any team with 6 primetime games. I believe one team can have 6 and the rest can have no more than 5.

Too many noon games (again!). No respect, but I guess it's understandable given the circumstances.

The flipside is what Kubiak mentioned in the presser. Football teams crave sameness in their scheduling--it makes planning easier.

The Texans dropped their first four games a year ago and were behind the proverbial eight ball for much of the season. This year should begin better for Houston as they take on a few teams in transition. Here is how the schedule looks for the Houston Texans in 2009.

Houston opens at home against the New York Jets (September 13th), who finished with nine wins a year ago, but will be starting a brand new quarterback, who is actually yet to be determined. Although the Jets are expected to have a fierce defense, itís tough to win in a rowdy environment with what is likely to be an inexperienced signal caller.

The Texans take on division foes in their next two games as they travel to Nashville to take on the Titans (September 20th), followed by a home game against the last place Jaguars (September 27th). The Titans will be trying to adjust to life without the heart and soul of their defense, Albert Haynesworth, and the Jaguars are in full rebuild mode, as they spent much of their offseason jettisoning veterans.

Houston concludes the first quarter of their season with a game against the Oakland Raiders (October 4th), who will likely have similar issues scoring as they did a year ago when they finished with the leagueís 29th ranked offense. Houston must win at least two out of their first four games, and itís likely that they could capture three out of four.

The second quarter of the season features three road games, as Houston visits the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals (October 11th), followed by a trip to Cincinnati (October 18th). The Texans must at the very least come out with a split in these two games. Houston then returns home for a matchup with perennial bottom-feeder San Francisco (October 25th), and then they take a tough trip north to Buffalo (November 1st), where the weather could be dicey on November 1st. Itís very possible that the Texans could capture three out of four, but a split is more likely.

The Texans face all AFC South opponents in the next quarter of the season as they travel to Lucas Oil Stadium to play Indianapolis (November 8th), followed by a much needed bye week, then a pair of home games against Tennessee on Monday Night Football (November 23rd), followed by Indianapolis for the second time in four weeks (November 29th). Houston plays their 12th game in Jacksonville on December 6th, a place where theyíve historically enjoyed some success. This will be a key segment of their schedule as they will have to do no worse than a split to keep their AFC South title hopes alive.

The last quarter of their schedule features a home game with Seattle (December 13th), followed by trips to St. Louis (December 20th) and Miami (December 27th). Houston then finishes with perhaps their toughest test of the year as they host the New England Patriots on January 3rd. At this point it is always unclear which teams will be good and which wonít, but we believe that the Seattle and St. Louis games are very winnable.

In summation, the Texans schedule doesnít appear overwhelming at all, as they have no three-game road trips, and the NFC West opponents should be beatable. Still, the team will have to make their mark during the month of November, as they travel to Buffalo before taking on all division foes.

I like the fact that with 3 of the first 4 at home with only 1 playoff team from last year, it gives us a better than decent chance to get off to a good start for a change.

I know you want to get tested to see where you stand, but geez man, let's start off good for a change and then start handling that stuff.

The first test will be the next 5 games where 4 will be on the road. Only 2 of those 5 are playoff teams from last year, and our road woes are well known. This stretch should let us know if the Texans plan to take that next step or not.

5-4, even 6-3 going into the break is a very real possibility.

The next 3 allow us to finish division play with 4 weeks to go. These games are important because you've gotta win division games if you're going to make your move. Fortunately, 2 of these 3 games are at home, including the Monday nighter against the Inbreds. I see no reason why REALISTICALLY, the Texans can't be 7-5 or 8-4 at this point.

Then all it takes is a win against a team you should beat (St. Louis) 8-5/9-4, and if you win just 1 of the other 3 (Sea, Mia, NE) you're looking at 9-7/10-6....win 2 of those 3.....10-6/11-5.

I don't think this outlook is being a homer. If the Texans can get anywhere near the same kind of output they had offensively, and cut down on turnovers, and the new defensive of Bush improves to even just middle of the pack, this is very obtainable.

I like the possibilities!!!

Personally, I love the noon games.

If it were up to me I would open the roof and turn off the AC. Make those northern teams play in the Texas heat. I know that's not ideal for fans, but that would be a big home field advantage for us.

On a more serious note, if we don't blow any games this year, I can see us getting 10 wins with this schedule.

Are you serious? We've been through this a million times. Did you see the Pittsburgh game here? That Texas heat did nothing but take the fans out, thus taking the home field advantage away.

And I'd like to have seen a couple of late games at least, even though the early games are better in the end. But man, 5:30 Sunday morning comes awfully dang early.

Maybe we'll be good enough to get flexed not necessarily to Sunday night, but Sunday afternoon.

No question about it, much more benign schedule than last year (atleast on the face of it): Season-opener is at home, 3 of first 4 at home for better opportunity to get off to positive start, all 3 west-coast games are home games, not a lengthy series of road games like last year, and as we already knew the non-divisional opponents don't appear to be as difficult.

This seems like a 10-6 schedule to me. I look and only see one team that the Texans would have problems with and that being New England. It may just be the homer in me, but I think the Texans have made it to a point to where they can hang with any team in the league. This is the NFL however, and anything can happen so I'm not going to get too far ahead in my thinking. :texflag:

Man! I hope the Pats game is worth something. I really wanted to play a meaningful game against them this season. The way they *****-slapped us in their house a few years ago left a sour taste in my mouth that has yet to fade.

IMO, you have to play the best to be the best. Plus, it'd be nice to gauge where we stand as a team.

Now, having said that, if it is the Texans resting a few players for that game.......I'm all for it. :)

For those who like things in one place.

12-4 is what I have us at.

Our four losses:

(a) 2 losses out of the first five games, take your pick. That puts us at 3-2.

(b) We then win three-straight before losing to Indy. Now we're at 6-3.

(c) 6-game winning streak until we lose to the Patriots at home.

12-4 final record. Clinched AFC South earlier than the final home game, so the Patriots game is a "rest your players game" for us.

I will back down off the 6-game winning streak and say that we might brain-fart one of those gimmee games...resulting in an 11-5 if we can't beat the Patriots at home (of course, we might be playing for something in that last game, so we could easily show up and beat the Pats and still get 12-4).

12-4 is extremely optimistic in our division and with the parity in the NFL. I'll wait until after the draft, free agency, and training camp, but I'll be leaning more in the direction of 10-6...11-5 if we get all the bounces and breaks.

Looking at the schedule, I don't see a game that we can't win. Please understand, I'm not saying we will win every game. Although the New Orleans Saints are moving training camp back to their own practice facility, they won't spend all of camp there. They'll spend a couple of days in Houston.

Team officials are in the process of finalizing plans for the Saints to work out with the Texans in advance of an Aug. 22 preseason game between New Orleans and Houston.

Yeah I saw this as well. Does anyone know if they normally open these inter-squad practices up to the public or if they're closed off?

Should be a fun little atmosphere if the public is allowed to attend - at least in terms of breaking up the monotony of training camp.

I don't think open practices go that far into preseason. I agree though, it'd be great if fans were allowed.

IIRC, there were a few minor skirmishes last year when we were in NO. It was funny because Baldinger was there doing a show saying how the two teams respected each other (I'm sure they still do),were all business and had zero fights break out. The next day after Baldy left fights broke out. LOL

I remember something about that too. Pretty common I think, for teams to get into some scuffles in inter-squad practices. They've already been "hitting but not really" on each other for several weeks, then they finally get to "kind of hit" on another team and you can imagine how the frustration would start to boil over. At least that's the way I would feel.

Hopefully it will be open, though. At the very least I can go to the preseason game, but for some reason I just think the practices would be more fun. Different aspect and perspective of the game maybe, I don't know.

The Texans have never won a road game played indoors (0-11). Of course 7 of those 11 losses are against Indy. The Texans likely have 3 indoor road games this season (Indy, Arizona and St.Louis).

Gotta bust that streak!!!
