View Full Version : Jerry Jones and his web of lies.

Peter King covered it in his last MMQB.

He lied about trading for WR Roy Williams. He said he had no interest in trading for a WR. Days later, he acquired Roy Williams.

He lied about getting rid of TO. Days later TO gets cut.

These are the 2 most recent ones. But what is with this guy? How do you expect people to ever believe you if you do things like this?

I have my own issues with Jerry Jones but lying about possible trades and cuts isn't one of them. They can't announce their plans out loud and ALL teams do this yearly in order to throw off the scent. If lying was a crime in the NFL, Bill Bellichek would be serving life.

Also, there was a pretty blunt interview that a reporter did with Jerry recently. Jerry never really lied about TO...he just pulled a Clinton and worded it with outs. His quote was..and this was paraphrased..."at this day our roster is who is on the roster. As we draft and get into FA we will add people but at this day the roster is who is on it." Basically his deal was that they were making decisions daily and everyday he could make the above quote and be right.

Here is the interview....I respected this guy for pushing the real topics and not softballing it

"You and I both know that the one you're asking about all the time, if I gave you the answer that you want to hear, then you would have already had it," Jones said. "So the fact you don't have it ought to tell you something."

The Cowboys released Owens on March 4, 2009.

Per SI: October 6th 2008

Jerry Jones “We have no plans to trade for a receiver before the trading deadline.” No plans? So it’s not going to happen? “No,” he said. “No trade for a receiver.”

Williams was traded to the Dallas Cowboys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_Cowboys) on October 14, 2008.

Say we will make moves to make our football team better as a whole. Don't just lie everytime you are asked a tough question.

I still don't see where he's doing something every other professional team on the planet isn't. Ed Wade lies through his teeth, at least I hope he does.

I guess I just dont see alot of owners, or GM's straight up lie to the public like that. I dont doubt that they do lie all day long when doing business. Its understandable. You dont show your cards. But normally when addressing the media you either say, we arent commenting on that today, or say we are always looking to make our team better. If the right deal comes along we will obviously take a look at it.

What are you talking about? As I said Bellicheck and others lie daily about injuries and trades. It's about playing poker with other teams. Everyone lies so you don't drive up or down prices on players and so your rivals don't get any ideas. The quote you use for TO is still cryptic and is explained in the interview I posted. As far as Roy Williams...how do we know if the deal had been set up yet?As I said, I fault him for doing many things to my Cowboys but I don't fault any owner or coach for lying so as not to give out too much to the league and to the media.

Unfortunately I have to agree with Frog on this. Jerry can't show let everyone how he plans on using his hand of cards until he puts them out on the table. He is an owner and a GM. What did you expect him to do, tell everyone he was going to cut TO a month before he did it? That would have been really non dramatic. And he couldn't go spouting off about a Williams trade until it was done, or it could have been possibly ruined somehow.

Jerry Jones didn't want to cut TO at all. He loved the guy. It actually took him a while to do it and took his son a while to finally convince him. I'm sure now Jerry wishes that he could have done it earlier so he could have possibly made a play for Houshmenzadah or someone else. He actually wasn't smart about how he cut TO with the timing of it being so late, but like I said it was a hard decision that he really didn't want to make.

That's twice in a row:toast2:

See I am realistic and can be good.:)

As far as when they cut TO..I think there were specific monetary considerations where they had to wait until March. My brother works for them...selling the new suites....and he was telling me since January that if it happens it will be March.

Yeah, I mean, come on. As a GM, it's his JOB to lie about what his plans are. If he told everyone what he was going to do before he did it, he'd be a moron.

Yeah, I gotta stop this Frog. Lol! Jerry needs to give me some more ammo.

Yeah, it was a tough decision actually to cut him even though it was the most obvious one to make from a chemistry stand point. They took a big hit from doing that and I'm sure Jerry had to really analyze whether or not if he wanted to take that kind of hit. He made the right decision though and it will better their team.

Now the Bills are about to take on the problem. The Bills have a very weak locker room and poor management and they are about to treat TO just like Jerry did and let him run wild and act however he wants. He already has taken the jersey number of Hardy. None of the team mates in Buffalo will stand up to TO when he starts spatting away either. If I was a Dallas fan right now I would be so relieved.

I really wish that team chemistry could get a few people transferred from my job. They are really hard workers and produce, but manage to spread a lot of misery that most of us have to deal with.:)

Bob McNair and Kubiak have told a couple of whoppers (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2006-07-12-nfl-report_x.htm) in their day:

"David hasn't performed to his ability yet," owner Bob McNair says [upon hiring Kubiak]

"We have a quarterback, we feel, who can take us to the next level," Kubiak says. "He's got a lot of time invested, too. He's got four years busting his (rear end). To give up on that, to me, is a mistake. This kid has put in a tremendous amount of work, and he's ready to play his best football over the next six or seven years."
