Just read on Schefter's blog:

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/18/chargers-tag-sproles-as-franchise-player/

The Chargers took a major step to resolve their running back issues. They designated Darren Sproles as their franchise player, which will limit his free-agent options but guarantee him $6.621 million for the 2009 season.

Most believed the Chargers couldn’t afford to pay both Sproles and starting RB LaDainian Tomlinson. But the Chargers made sure they could.

Also, the Buccaneers officially tagged WR Antonio Bryant as their franchise player.

Hmm. Strange move. I surely didn't think Sproles was worth 6 million. They could have signed him to a contract that would have slotted him at a lower cap figure, I'd assume

This could get interesting with the Chargers because they are still going to have to do something with LT. Are they going to want to pay two RB's all of that money? That is a lot.

Well they have a stacked team so they will not be chasing FA's this year and I can only assume they will be shopping LT. Not saying they will trade him, but if somebody offers a rare deal for him then they will probably make it. LT is not the same back anymore.
