Tons of draft watchers consider Orakpo, Brown, and Maybin to be 3-4 OLBs instead of 4-3 ends, so they categorize them accordingly.

There happen to be several tweeners in this years draft. Mayock said of the top 4 tweeners, Orakpo would be the only one that could possibly keep his hand on the ground as a 4-3 DE.

I've said this many times, but if I'm not reading this board for draft info. I'm listening/watching Mayock. The guy works his ass off at what he does and I think he's the best.

Exactly. Interesting he has English up there instead of Brown but Mayock isn't afraid to be different.

Mike Goodson as his #5 RB? interesting.

Andre Smith #3 ranking doesn't really surprise me. The Tackles this year seem to be all interchangeable depending on team and need. J. Smith and Monroe could be better LTs than A. Smith (great RT?) so that could be something he sees.

Michael Bennett #4 DE? interesting. I think Mayock probably just finished watching some Big XII film or at least ATMs.

Andre Smith should of went to the senior bowl and dispelled any rumors about being vulnerable to quick first step guys. He got some real bad advise from his agent. Probably cost the kid five to ten million dollars. When the NFL asks you to compete you go and compete. I think Crabtree is getting the same kind of bad advise, bab ankle and all. I read Andre Smith as lot like our Duane Brown... devastating run blocker....not as good as Joe Thomas as a pass blocker. Very Worthy of a top ten pick. I could damn sure make him work at OLT.

A lot of people see Orakpo as the second coming of Demarcus Ware in the 3-4. But out of Mayock's own lips....he can play DE in the 4-3.

Andre Smith couldn't play in the senior bowl.

He was a junior & wasn't allowed to play.

Funny you posted that after you posted the combine link....the reason why Brown isn't in there .....is in there. His video of the OLBs is up.

Always keep a close eye on the South Carolina guys and the Aggies. Kubes hasn't indulged himself an Aggie yet....he's due.

caught my eye as well. I don't think he'll be a success pounding into the line, but in the right system he could be a steal. the kid is just downright scary quick.

Oh I gotcha. I was going off the original list posted. Brown isn't listed on Mayock's top 5 DEs or top 5 OLBs.

I see your link has Brown as the #4 of 4 "OLBs that can also play DE".

Maybin sure does look quick. I wonder how adding some weight and going through NFL strength and conditioning program will affect him.

Don't know who this guy is, but he seems like an ***** to me.

Michael Bennett #4 DE!? I'm sorry did you watch cfb last year? A&M had one of the worst defenses in the country and Bennett wasn't even the best DE on the team anyway. See Cyril Obizor.

Mayock is one of the more highly regarded draft analysts because he actually watches player film, unlike Kiper and McShay who just go by what other people are telling them.

Ok, but that doesn't mean he is always right. I hold no regard whatsoever for Kiper or McShay, but Michael Bennett? Seriously!?

I wish I could talk to Mayock and get him to make his defensive front lists alignment specific.

In otherwords, Top 5 4-3 DE's, Top 5 3-4 DE's, Top 5 4-3 OLB's, and Top 5 3-4 OLB's.

Of course, I think you could still have Top 5 ILB's as he does now because there really isn't that much of a difference, and therefore a need to distinguish, between 3-4 and 4-3 for ILB's.

Well you take a guy like Orakpo....he can work in any system. Have him ranked on two different lists ? They see the guy and rank him as to what he will be best at on the next level.

You're not going to out watch Mayock on these guys tape.

That's all he does. Once he makes up his mind, he doesn't back off. Yes he can be wrong. But he does all of his evaluations off of a guys on field production in college and the work outs. You can decide for your self what the value in that is. Might have some guys who are better at scouting guys. But you're not going to out film room Mayock. He didn't have Ayers on his radar as a pass rush DE until the senior bowl work outs. Once he saw him and got some tape on the guy....he moved him up his board.

I have no complaint with Mayock's ability to analyze players. I just wish he would make a list of players that I could read knowing that they all would fit in a particular defensive alignment.

To answer your first question, absolutely Orakpo could be listed on 2 different lists.

I would expect that many players could be.

I also would expect that the multiple lists would show that although some players, like Orakpo, could play in both defensive alignments, they would fit in one alignment better than another, and therefore have a higher value on one list than the other.

Yes, Mayock shouldn't have guys like Orakpo and Maybin as part of the same group as SAM linebackers. If he wants to separate the tweeners from guys that have to play with their hand on the ground, then there should be a separate category titled "speed rushers" or something to that effect.

After checking out Wake Forest's last 3 games of the season against BC, Vandy, and Navy, I really don't see Aaron Curry as the top pick.
Maybe it's a coincidence that those were not his best games.

Even in the BC's game where he has the number, he did not look like no. 1 to me. Especially when compared with Herzlich (in the 2 games I watched him.)

Herzlich's numbers against WF were good, but not so good against Vandy.
However, he was everywhere, affecting plays while Curry was far from being a force!
