Just watched a cool segment on Inside The NFL on Showtime.

Before I tell you the story-line of the segment, let's transport ourselves back to the 2008 regular season when the Titans beat the Steelers and several Titans players are seen enjoying themselves as they stomp on the Terrible Towel on the sidelines, on camera, with devilish grins across their mugs.

Here's the story off Inside The NFL tonite:

The Terrible Towel was conceived as a playoff game gimmick/pep prop, in Dec. 1975, by Steelers radio broadcasting color-commentary man Myron Cope. Myron's son was mentally handicapped, and Myron found a wonderful school for his son at Alleghany Valley School in Pennsylvania.

In 1996, the Terrible Towel trademark rights were given (by Cope) to the Alleghany Valley School for the mentally-challenged, just as a blessing for all they had done for his son. Proceeds are enormous, and have literally catapulted the school to new heights.

And that brings us to the Titans, who enjoy stomping on a symbol of pride that stretches beyond the borders of the football stadium. Oops!

Now, I know the responses before I even see them: They didn't know the transformation of the symbolism of the towel, they saw it just as a symbol of the team itself (which they had just defeated), and other nicely said things to excuse them from complicity to a heinous and cold-hearted crime.

:spit: LOL. I just think to myself: On that day, at THAT time, when the dastardly deed was performed...those guys had no clue that what they were doing was going to be anything more than typical trash-talking. Can you imagine the reactions of the LEGIONS of Steelers fans who saw that?

Ahh....what a great and wonderful thing of sick beauty it is to know that those Titans are tied to that sort of wonderment.

Hey Smash-And-Dash: Do your homework, next time, on what certain pieces of team memorabilia mean to people.

I did not know that. Very interesting story.

That's kind of like Jimmy Johnson using a box of Flutie Flakes as a prop to one his post game jokes in the locker room after the Dolphins beat the Bills one year. He had to apologize after that one....

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed is in trouble with the police over some towels, but not the Terrible kind waved by his fans.

Pennsylvania state police say Reed threw a temper tantrum at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria, a tiny borough about 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, because its restroom didn’t have any towels.

Reed has been cited for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, offenses similar to traffic tickets that carry a maximum fine of $300 and 90 days in jail each. Police said he broke the towel dispenser then used profane language to an employee and also outside the store.

“Reed caused damage to a towel dispenser as he was infuriated at the fact that there were no towels in it,” according to a news release by Trooper Shawn Askins, who issued the citations. The incident occurred Saturday about 2:50 a.m.

In his defense it has been two whole weeks since he experienced the thrill of a lifetime that very few will ever know. That's got to be hard on the guy.

Towels and and being mentally challenged 2009-style.

I always thought a "yall" was a boat. Anyway let us consider the source. Wasn't Lyndale White the guy who stomped on the towel in question? If he wants to stomp on something why doesn't he stomp on Bud Adams Howard Cossell yard sale looking toupeé....hopefully while Bud is still wearin' it!

I'm not saying it is, but that is real similar to roid rage.

I didn't know the history of the Terrible Towel, but it's still hilarious and ridiculous that so many people are up in arms about it. I hate the Titans as much as anyone, but ... it's a towel. Anyway.

Pretty ironic story considering that the Titans players that were dancing on the towel appear to be mentally handicapped themselves.

A lot of good it did the Titans to stomp on it, 'eh? They lose in the first round while the Steelers proudly display their NFL-record sixth Lombardi Trophy.

I don't blame Steeler Nation for feeling the way that they do about their towels. I mean, can you imagine if someone took a Texans...a Texans...uhhh...a....errrmmmm....do we have anything that means anything?

O.k., how about the Texas flag with the Texans logo on it? How would you feel if you saw Titans players stomping on it? I'd bet most would be pretty pissed off and demanding blood. JMO

If it was a Texas flag - or even a Texas flag with a Texans logo - I'm on my way to Nashville with brass knuckles in one hand and a claw hammer in the other.

If you'd be that pissed over the flag stomping (every right to btw...) Imagine the fallout if an opposition player (especially a Tack) when for Toro! Theres a thought...Toro vs Lendale in a fist fight :aggressive:

The guy in that photo looks like Guile (from the Street Fighter video game) and Syndrome (bad guy in the movie The Incredibles) had a child together.

Is that REALLY the kicker for the Steelers? Creepy.
