this guys is looking to be the guy we want and so here is a what Matt McGuire had to say about him.

- Day 2 comments

Everyone's MVP today is Western Michigan product Louis Delmas. He put a huge hit on Ramses Barden, knocking him off his feet and doing it with authority. He was always around the football and displayed great range and instincts. I talked with Chris Steuber of Scout.com and he really felt Delmas is a pure free safety. Delmas' stock is skyrocketing and Taylor Mays returning to USC really helps him.

- Day 3 comments

Louis Delmas had an average practice, but he displayed much leadership as he yelled at DeAngelo Smith, "Get deep! Get deep! Get deep!!!" I like to see this kind of direction and leadership as the quarterback of the defensive backfield.

Can't say I've seen many (any) Western Michigan games. I'd be reluctant to draft him over Rashad Johnson, but he sounds like an interesting prospect.

I've been high on Delmas all year. This season he had 111 tackles (4 TFL) and 4 INT (1 TD).

He is the top FS on my board, but I think Moore will get drafted first because of his measurables.

Delmas is a good safety. I saw him a bit against Rice in the Texas Bowl, and he throws his body around like crazy. He may not be the biggest player, but he plays and acts like it. He's kind of like Dunta Robinson as a safety in that sense as well as the leadership. I would be ecstatic if we drafted him in round 2.

I saw him in person at the Texas Bowl. He was the only player from Western Michigan that stood out at all and I came away impressed. If we go safety in round 2 this is the guy I would like.

From the Senior Bowl recaps that I've read the last couple days, the scouts are very disappointed in William Moore and very excited about Patrick Chung and Louis Delmas. If what I've read is true then Moore might wind up being the 3rd safety taken in the draft probably mid to late 2nd round and Chung and Delmas could go late 1st or early 2nd round. In either case we would have to reach on one of them in the 1st round if we wanted them cause they probably wouldn't be there by the mid 2nd round or trade down in the 1st round, picking either Chung or Delmas and picking up extra picks.

Johnson or Delmas in the 2nd would make me happy.

Delmas seems to fit the mold of guys the Texans love to draft as well:
http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2008/09/kalamazoo_at_any_moment.html

When a boy no older than about 9 showed up at a recent practice for an autograph, brought over by a woman Delmas knew from a campus cafeteria, Delmas thought the ink from his pen was far too little a contribution.

Still a year from the riches of the NFL, Delmas offered what cash he had.

"He was a struggling little boy ... I just felt real bad for him, because he was in the same situation I was in," Delmas said. "I felt like any little thing I could do for him just to help him improve his life, that's what I'm trying to do."

What about Londen Fryar (son of WR Irving Fryar) who play CB for W.Michigan, how is he rated?

Can he be a sleeper pick?

• I was very impressed with Western Michigan S Louis Delmas today. Even though he was sitting the session out in street clothes he still stayed involved, encouraging his teammates every time they came off the field. This kid is a leader!

He projects as a 2nd rounder. The question is if he will be gone before we pick in the second round.

That is what I meant. Will he be drafted in the 2nd before our 2nd pick? My guess is no.

He will go in the 2nd.

Hard to say if he will fall to us but I would guess no. I think Moore, Delmas, and Chung all get taken after our first pick and before our second.

We would then probably look at Rashad Johnson (2nd) or Derek Pegues and Courtney Greene (3rd).

As long as we don't get Moore. We don't need the washed down version of Roy Williams running around back there.

In his NFLDC scouting report, Scott stated that he was eerily similar to Tyrell Johnson. Johnson was a Safety prospect from last year's draft, and IIRC, sources from kffl had reported that the Texans FO were very interested in him. He was taken early in the 2nd round by the vikings though, hopefully Delmas will be in our reach now that we got a mid-2nd rounder.

So was Dunta Robinson. only in the last couple weeks leading up to the draft did word hit the street that his stock was sky-rocketing & rest is history. Delmas is a pure FS. is not a tweener by any measure. strike a pose - he is what the Texans have needed for a long, long, long time.

I had just done a Texans Mock draft. my thinking was we could still trade down & get him, I would say now thats too risky. last year the Texans gambled & it paid off, but as anyone here still remembers San Diago sitting @ #27 with the next pick was waiting to take Duane Brown.

In Rick Smith I trust, but I would not play poker against these sharks :poker:

I don't think it paid off per say. We don't need to get back into this again by any means, but I refuse to believe that Duane Brown is an upgrade in any way other than youth. Also, San Diego has a LT already that you were pretty high on coming out of Auburn. They didn't need Brown. That pick still just gets under my skin.

After watching the Senior Bowl, the Texas Bowl, and WMU vs Ball State, I have to say I'm a huge fan of Delmas. I like his instincts, range, tackling ability, aggression, and cover skills. He reminds me a lot of Dunta, except that he's slower. He's right up there with Rashad Johnson in my mind as the top safety in this draft, and with a good combine, he could very well move into the late first round territory. With a trade down, I'd be excited to land him. Robinson, Wilson, Delmas, and an improved Bennett/Reeves/Moulden has the makings of a pretty good secondary.

I'm really kicking myself now for not taping the Texas Bowl :brickwall:

I know this thread is kind of old, but I really really like Delmas as a prospect. I could see him being drafted in the 2nd to be our future at FS (maybe SS).

Granted, my perfect FS for the Texans is Eric Berry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnB2TvnGt4I), he won't be coming out until next year and most likely would be out of reach (likely a top 7 selection). I can always dream though.

Delmas is a good prospect who has a lot of talent.
