View Full Version : Battle of the Birds--Eagles v. Cardinals

Well...the penultimate game day of the season is here, and whilst they're not the glamour matchups the television companies would have wanted, they're intriguing in their own ways.

The Eagles - Cards game should be entertaining, can see it being quite high scoring, and looks like the major injuries have been shaken off for the game (as you would have imagined they would have!).

The Ravens - Steelers should be a lot lower scoring, but will be exciting to watch given their rivalry, and I think there will be some impressive defensive showings, and could well come down to who can establish their ground offense the best.

Why not seperate each game into it's own thread?

I am looking forward to both games. I hope it's in the cards for the Cards. I really don't care who wins the Baltimore/Pitt game, I guess I don't want the Steelers to get another trophy. I don't think Baltimore has enough left in the tank to be the Steelers though, on the road at that.

What an easy drive for the Cards...even the run was picking up the easy 1st downs, really poor start from Philly.

Still...terrible kickoff from the Cards...the last thing you need after a statement starting drive is to give them a 40 yard start.

Go Cards! I really don't want the Eagles to make it. Not really a fan

I'm with you here, I don't want Philly giong crazy again, like after the World Series win, alongside that I like watching Larry Fitzgerald play football, Kurt Warner taking them all the way only puts Leinart further away from starting in the NFL and the sea of red reminding me of our brilliant battle red days.

So, for those incredible obscure reasons, go Cards!

Been fun to watch so far....the Philly defense need to stop the short passes to Fitzgerald and the Card receivers, otherwise it's going to be a day of WR's busting out good runs after the catch, as it has been for a lot of the year for Arizona.

Wow....talk about biting on a trick play! Jeez....Fitzgerald was pretty much uncontested in that catch, after a pretty blatant set up. They had to be at Warner quicker, he has far too much time to make the throw.

....either he's that's difficult to cover(which is a possibiliy) or teams can't figure out they need to double cover Larry Fitzgerald.

I think part of the problem is that he is neither a deep threat receiver, nor is he a short completion catch and run receiver, he is both, and does both very, very well. In that regard I think the problem of double covering him, although that TD play was a one on one play throughout. I can't believe that teams are still underestimating his talent, and the threat he poses, so there must be a reason other than ignorance as for the catches he is making.

The Eagles really have no response to this rampant offensive showing. Its well balanced as well...11 pass and 11 run plays so far, and not many haven't gained yards. I think the Eagles coaches have to start to look to changing things up at the half, otherwise, they aren't going to be able to get close, even if their offense does get it going.

Now personally, I don't think there is a "best" WR in football. There are a few guys that I wouldn't trade for the other. If you offered me Fitz for AJ, I wouldn't take it. If I had Fitz and you offered AJ in a straight up trade, I wouldn't take it.

Are you kidding me? He has the BEST hands in football, and has since he came into the league. He attacks the ball, rather than letting it hit his body. I give AJ the edge with speed and acceleration, but in those areas, Fitz is the best! Now, I wouldn't trade AJ for Ftiz either, I like the more explosive player, but if switched out, I wouldn't be angry either.....lol:spit:

Samuel was a player that I did not want the Texans to pursue, because I didn't feel like he'd be as good as some people thought. The attitude today kind of adds to that, IMO. Although, if the Eagles in general feel that way, then maybe it's instilled from up top. Oh well.

then it wasn't the official forum, which has thousands of people on right now

Fair play, I didn't know which was their biggest forum, so I just went for the first I found on google. In fairness I didn't think it was that big, only had 9,000 odd posts on it.

Either was, I'm not sticking the knife in at their time of (rare) triumph, their fans who've stuck with them deserve this!

Now for the Ravens to book their ticket!

So will people stop talking about "Jim Johnson" defense now?

The Cards have put down a great pattern for a team like the Texans to follow.

Lol, who knows?

I went on a Cards forum about 10 minutes in, and there were 7 people online.

I went on the official board and as it happened the first post I read came from a poster by the name of "TitanCardinal" with a total of 4 posts.. :spit: I couldn't resist laughing at the whole coincidence.

I can't believe the Cardinals are going to the Super Bowl.

Me either!

Sorry, I'm not buying that Fitz is the best WR in the game. What has he done that AJ doesn't do? Nothing.

When AJ puts on a show like this in the AFC Championship game, he can reclaim the title.

I'm with you, I'm an AJ fan, but this is a big game, and Fitz dominated.

We'll just have to live with AJ being the best wide-out in the AFC for now.

well this definitely proves that Matt Leinart is a better backup QB than Vince Young

Pretty cool to see the Cards go. I'd like to see Kurt Warner win another one

If Pittsburg goes, I'll be rooting for them, but if Baltimore goes, I'll be rooting for the Cards.

Eriadoc, did you see Westbrook and James celebrating? You wouldn't know what team Westbrook played for.

I saw that (it was Buckhalter, not Westbrook) and was stunned. He jumped on Edge like they were both going to the Super Bowl. I don't want to knock guys for being gracious in defeat and congratulating the Cardinals for an unbelievable playoff run, but one can be classy without acting like the loss doesn't hurt. If I were an Eagles fan, I'd be hella irritated by Buckhalter's response.

Darnell Dockett deserves a fine from Whisenhunt for his boneheaded selfishness on that last play of the game. Wtf was he doing trying to score? The game was over but he got big-eyed at the chance to make the final play a ME moment.

This type of stupidity is an epidemic in the NFL, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Coaches should be more proactive about it, even in situations where no harm is done.

Interesting that Kurt Warner has led the St Louis Rams to a Super Bowl (twice actually) and won one with that team and now he's leading their former team to another one.
