OMG I've been following these guys who are of this descent in these bowl games and these dudes are beast as D-back, O-lineman. Texans could use a few of these guys. Their work ethic is second to none.

you know, the team just ain't right without at least one beefy Pacific Islander making pancakes at midfield. There are quite a few in the league considering how small their numbers are population-wise overall.

I'd settle for one 'less beefy' Pacific Islander (although born in CA.) if he was 5'-10" about 207 lbs. and his name was Troy Polamalu!

I prefer my Samoans to be pro wrestlers.

But that's just me.

Although there was this one Samoan who had a collegiate football background... can't quite smell what he was cooking though......

Preach on Reverend Bill!!!

My question is this. Does Troy have a pissed off cousin with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove who's trying to enter the NFL? If so then I say we give the young man a job.

We don't have very far to look for Polynesians/Samoans here in Texas. Euless Trinity High School located up near the Dallas FW airport has like a 3rd of the team from Tongan descent. They won the Class 5A Division 1 State Championship last year (2007) and were ranked #1 in the Nation most of this year until Allen beat them in the Region 1 final. Allen went on to beat Hightower in the Championship game this year at Reliant.

Not sure how so many ended up there, but I did read an article awhile back that said many of them left California to get away from the gang violence and find a more peaceful place to live. I'm sure some of them must be going to the major universities, so we may start seeing some of these kids showing up in the NFL in a few years.

You win on the football field by beating the crap out of the other guy, not making him tap out.

I'm sorry Samoa Joe but you can take your chokeholds elsewhere.

there are already quite a few and in the past there has always been high numbers considering their population.

KAPOLEI, Hawaii -- Think about it: In the last five years, 15 percent of boys playing football for the Samoa Island's six high schools have earned football scholarships from American universities, according to a recent Washington Post report.

Now think about this: It has been estimated that a Samoan boy is 40 times more likely to reach the NFL than a boy growing up in the United States.

And this: There are an estimated half million Samoans in the world, and more than 200 play Division I college football.

And this: Very few of those 200 played organized football before high school.

That Lofa Tatupu kid out of Seattle is a monster... not in size, but in ability and tenacity.

Isn't the badass LB from USC of Samoan descent? Ray Malauga? (I can never spell it).

He was born in Oklahoma to Samoan parents...they moved to Hawaii where he started to play football in the 6th grade.

What do you think of him, Vinny? Is he going to be the real deal in the NFL?

a name like that almost forces the young man to be tenacious, a go-getter. the slightest sign of hesitation or relaxation would bring a chorus of cajolery... loafer tatupu, etc.

He is gonna be awesome...I'd love to have him. He plays with passion, instinct and he hits like a mack truck.

Didn't we have a Mexican guy? And what happened to the Falcons' Japanese guy? Nakamura I think, but I'm probably just thinking of Pablo Nakamura.

I hope he never goes to jail. Someone would use him as a Loofah.
