Peter King of CNNSI.COM predicts that John Abraham from the Jets is headin to the Texans in the offseason as a free agent signing.... One of elite pass rushers in the game today, Abraham would be a huge addition to the defense..... another player who is available on the open market is TJ Houshmandzadeh as well as Mushy Muhammad both of which would be an excellent compliment to AJ.... Next year is huge for Carr - he must progress and get better or else he will be run out of town ... anything less than 20 TD passes is completely unacceptable.

6'4'' at 256 seems a little small for a DE in a 3-4, unless Capers would want to try him at . . . . (naaa, perish the thought) :dontknowa

^^

Exactly. Abraham is NOT a 3-4 end. The only way he could play in a 3-4 is at OLB. So who do you sit down? Wong, who had a great year, or your 1st round pick. Peter King is full of sht anyways.

 Well, I don't see 95% of what Peter King says coming true.
Besides knowing that he is notoriously unreliable in predictions....Abraham doesnt even fit in your scheme.

I'd love to have him (although I don't think it will go down). He can play standing up and I would put him in Wong's spot (move Wong into the Buc LB) and keep Peek as a situational pass rusher. He would be the impact type front-7 player we are looking for.

i think the win/loss column well help determine carr's future alot more than 20 TD throws. even barring another 7-9 (or worse season), carr will more than likely be around for at least a couple more years....at least......why did i responed to this? :hairpull: <mini rant> i love the texans, but the bi-polar, tempramental, bloddthirsty, matter-o-fact fans leave alot to be desired</mini rant>

Does anyone have the link to where he says this? John Abraham would make an excellent OLB in the Peter Boulware mold.

Free Agency might be thin depending how much we are willing to keep some of our players that are up for new contracts. Abraham would be welcome in my book, he is just an awesome ball hawk.

Why don't we just pony up the cash & sign Jeremiah Trotter this year? He'd make our LB crew one of the best in the league (Wong/Trotter/Sharper/Babin, w/Peek in reserve).

That would be awesome, but it sounds like they are not going to pursue any high-end FA's.

Having Peek and Abraham on the edges would be amazing.

IMO Peek would be just fine. Even if we did have to move Wong to the inside.

Abraham will not come to the Texans. Lets wait and see if our #1 draft pick (Babin) and Peek pan out. Isn't that what we draft them for?

Casserly said it on 13 last night. He said that they would go after a few "bargain" free agents. Abraham will not be a bargain.

Why would Trotter want to leave Philadelphia? He has already tried that once and had a terrible time in Washington. He fits in Philadelphia and probably realizes that even though he might be able to get more money elsewhere that he belongs in Philadelphia.

Maybe you're right, but until he signs, we can still make a run at him.

It's really surprising to find out how many of these alleged "experts" who make
big $ writing NFL football articles for the likes of CNN don't understand something as fundamental as these small 4-3 DEs not having a place in the lineup as a down lineman for any of the 3-4 teams.

Anishin

The Jets do switch back and forth from 4-3 to 3-4, and he does fine when they switch. Really it all comes down to ability, Jason Taylor is way to undersized to do what he does.

BornOrange
01-03-2005, 07:54 PM
I don't think Abraham is going to be in a Texans uniform next year, but if he were it would be as an OLB and not as a down lineman.
He is the right size for an OLB in the 3-4.

We would finally move Wong inside...

Wasn't he moved outside this year to give him more opportunites to make plays?

Oh and by the way, sorry guys, Abraham is coming to the Jags. PFW reports we're doing our homework on him and Jerry Porter (and PFW is 10x more credible than retarded Peter King), we have more cap room than you, and he'd get to play on a line with 2 guys that demand double teams. ;)

I really dont see this happening. if we put Abraham at OLB, he would have to learn the position.. there is more than pass rushing involved.

just, not very likely.

That, and you don't pay 3-4 OLBs the type of money Abraham will command. There's a reason Pittsburgh constantly lets their All-Pro LBs leave, only to plug in cheap new guys and get more All-Pros (Kevin Greene, Chad Brown, Carlos Emmons, Earl Holmes, Mike Vrabel). Heck, chances are even former DROTY Kendrell Bell will be allowed to walk in free agency, replaced by a gentleman named Larry Foote. Who? Exactly.

I think its funny how one week all the fans sit here saying they love the idea of Peek and Babin playing opposite one another next season, saying Peek is what this team needs. The next week he is hurt and not playing and people say they needed his fire in there. Then one little rumor comes around and all is forgotten? Could the bandwagons get any bigger? Its no different than booing your own team on the field during the game. Maybe everyone could try to support the players they have consistently. I mean how two faced is it when attitudes about everything change every single week.

I believe that some people are fantazing about the ideal defense without realizing the time it takes to develop continuity amongst the defense. The best thing that I believe could happen is that the entire defense works out together and we don't lose any important pieces.

Maybe, but maybe not. Franchise DEs cost $8 mil plus. They just signed Pennington and Ellis to monster contracts. They have Santana Moss up next year as a FA. They have Bryan Thomas, another 1st round DE that's played well, waiting in the wings. Some signs point to them letting Abraham walk.

Problem now is the aging of the defense. For starters, both Aaron Glenn and Jamie Sharper are getting past their prime. We saw their best in years 1 & 2.

I believe those two play ILB and CB, not OLB where the texans have two young players. They need to focus on the older players being replaced such as sharper in the next couple years, Glenn, the def. line. This team doesnt need another OLB.

I think your right Kid. Originally I thought Glenn's replacement was a top priority, but with Seths injury we need to jump on a DL/NT guy or we could be SOL come game day up the middle. We suddenly have a whole series of problems that need to be addressed quickly and I am not sure how we are going to handle them all.
