Two weeks after announcing he was being forced out as Tennessee's Coach, Phillip Fulmer said Tuesday he's open to future coaching opportunities.

Fulmer said he's focused on the Vols' final games against Vanderbilt and Kentucky. After that, he plans to proceed with caution and won't jump at the first coaching vacancy that comes his way.

"The fire still burns real deep to coach, but at the same time, my family has paid a dear price for a long time," a reflective Fulmer said.

In his 17th and final season as Vols coach, Fulmer said he has already consulted with several past coaches about his next career move - including former UT coach and athletics director Doug Dickey, ex-Tennessee coach Bill Battle, and Lloyd Carr, who stepped down from the Michigan job last season.

This is not stated in the article, but I think he could land at Clemson, Syracuse, or Kansas St if he really wants to keep going.

Does he have any upside as a Defensive Coordinator for a 4-3 team in the NFL? I might know of a team that could be in the market for one...

How is Houston Nutt working out for y'all?? Were you expecting 6-4, better, worse?

I would expect that beating Florida helps a lot.

I think all the games they have lost have been close too.

I wouldn't be surprised if they took out LSU this weekend either.

Love him. I didn't expect us to be at .500 this season quite honestly after looking at our schedule. I've been very impressed with him and the team so far. The team is really exceeding my expectations. I just hope we can find a decent replacement for LT Oher, DE Hardy and DT Jerry (if these two leave early).

That's one thing that's so frustrating, the games we lost have been SO close. Wake Forest (last second FG), Vanderbilt (6 pts), South Carolina (7 pts), ALABAMA (4 pts).

I fully expect us to win out this year: LSU and Mississippi St. and finish the season 8-4.

That Florida game was so fun to watch. And Alabama... we had the ball at mid field with like a minute and a half left... such a shame we couldn't pull it out. ("that's what she said"- Michael Scott)

Lookin good so far.

Defense is pounding LSU.

Jarrett Lee is terrible. Probably couldn't even start at Michigan.

Ole Miss is playing tough but has dropped about three INTs, one of which would have been a sure TD.

Funny how a DB can't even put his hand on a WR's hip to stay with him when he turns around for the ball, but a WR can push a DB to the ground on his way up to catch a ball.

Luckily for LSU, Lee went down with a sprained ankle and the 3rd stringer came in and looks light years better than Lee.

Maybe Fulmer can have the Notre Dame job soon.

Notre Dame just lost to Syracuse.

Anyone else see the irony in that?

Also, good win Ole Miss

nice call

LSU is just as bad at QB as Michigan is.

It's a testament to their defense (and Charles Scott) that they have won as many games as they have.

Can we finally get LSU out of the top 25 now? Geez.

Watching Lou Holtz squirm, spit, and whine when talking about Notre Dame on College Football Live is very funny to me. I don't know if that makes a bad person or not.

His completely biased take on ND, plus the fact that he blatantly cheated at every program he coached makes me enjoy his misery.

Probably not a representation of the entire fan base, but wow:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3719375

Notre Dame football players were pelted by snowballs from fans sitting in the student section during their 24-23 loss to Syracuse on Saturday.

The game was played a day after South Bend got hit with about 10 inches of snow. The stands and field were clear, but there was snow along the fringes of the field.

At first people started by throwing the snow in the air, but then began quickly tossing snowballs toward the Notre Dame sideline.

Defensive lineman Ian Williams got hit in the helmet, defensive end Ethan Johnson was struck on the left cheek and a St. Joseph County police officer on the sideline looking into the crowd got hit in the chest.

An NBC camera man also was a frequent target and several snowballs reached the field, although none landed near where play was occurring.

When the Irish defense held a meeting on the sideline, injured linebacker Brian Smith stood on a bench to try to shield his teammates. But when a snowball hit defensive tackle Pat Kuntz, he stood and faced the crowd and appeared to challenge whoever threw it to come down on the field.

At least one fan was seen being led away by police.

I can't imagine throwing anything at the players I cheer for.

Rumor is that Auburn will fire Tommy Tuberville:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3742934

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who won 85 games and one SEC championship in 10 seasons, won't return as the Tigers' coach in 2009, multiple sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Wednesday.

The decision was made after Tuberville met with Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs for the second time in as many days on Wednesday.

Auburn scheduled a team meeting at 6 p.m. ET to inform players of the decision. An Auburn official was not sure if the school would hold a news conference Wednesday night.

The decision was first reported by the Birmingham (Ala.) News on Wednesday.

This is a head scratcher. He is the only Auburn coach to beat Alabama six times in a row and prior to this season, Auburn had finished in the top 15 four years in a row and five of the last six.

The guy got fired for having ONE bad season.

What I've heard is that he had a $6 million bonus if he resigned, which he did. He got $3 million and will get a payment of $3 million later. Rumors are circulating, though, that he was told to resign isntead of being fired.

Maybe Auburn is afraid of losing a ton of ground to Alabama. Stupid Auburn. The guy is a damn good coach. It won't take him long to find a job.
