View Full Version : Who do we bring in?

Spike

With Schaub out, who do you think that we will bring in for back-up?

If anything, this gives us an opportunity to bring someone in who - if necessary - can replace Sage as the back-up (assuming Kubes and Co. stick with Schaub - which I suspect they will do) or who could compete for a starting spot next year.

Maybe Chris Simms? It is probably not setting fire works off with anyone on this board...especially UT fans. I think he is a guy with some talent that has experiencing starting in this league. Maybe in a new system, this can be a veteran who can flourish?

Yeah - he's still a Titan. Inactive on most if not all game days, but still a Titan.

Plummer's rights are still controlled by the Bucs, so while I'm thinking the suggestion wasn't serious, it's not an option regardless.

I think you're right about Brink. Last year they brought Boyd in under similar circumstances, and he had zero NFL experience beyond preseason.

Brink is in the exact same boat, but with a full off season, pre-season and half a regular season practicing in the system. If you're looking for anyone besides Brink & Boyd with experience in their system, you're pretty much back to Bradlee Van Pelt, and Quinn Gray. I was actually kind of impressed by Boyd in preseason, but if the powers that be liked him, I imagine he'd be on the PS right now.

Not a lot to work with really unless we want an out of work QB the past few years to try and step in. I really think we overvalued Sage and should've taken that 3rd Minny offered and in the meantime we could've have looked at a decent second option. This staff might face a tough choice this coming off-season at the QB position

Bruce Gradkowski is the only name other then Shane Boyd I can realistically think of that might make a difference. Maybe Tim Rattay?

Kubiak said on his radio show on 610 that they were bringing in some veterans to look at on Tuesday. He was specifically asked about Shane Boyd and said that if they didn't go with one of the veterans, they'd go with Brink.

He didn't say who any of the veterans were, and didn't give any indication of the likelihood of which direction he'd go - veteran or Brink - but it sounds like there's zero chance of it being Boyd.

Are we considered a desirable team to play for or do people tend to steer clear

In general the three most important things to players looking to switch teams are

1) Money
2) Money
3) Money

For the few exceptions to that, the players usually go to a team that is an immediate threat to compete for the Super Bowl.

So, the Texans are desirable when they offer more money than anyone else. They really don't offer anything else that would make a player take less money.

Professional career

[edit] Green Bay Packers
He was drafted out of NSU by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2002 NFL Draft with the 164th choice overall. Nall also started for the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe in 2003 and was the league's leading passer. In 2004 Nall played in 5 games as Brett Favre's backup at Green Bay. He completed 23 of 33 passes for 314 yards and 4 touchdowns, with no interceptions, and a passer rating of 139.4.

[edit] Buffalo Bills
In 2006, Craig Nall signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Buffalo Bills, where he competed for the starting quarterback position until a hamstring injury suffered on the second day of practice ended his involvement in the competition. In 2007, he fell on the the team's depth chart behind J.P. Losman and Trent Edwards. At the end of pre-season, he was cut from the team's final roster.[1] Early into the regular season he was re-signed by the Bills but was released shortly thereafter.

[edit] Houston Texans
On October 29, 2007, Nall was signed by the Houston Texans as insurance when starter Matt Schaub was hurt against San Diego. He was released by the Texans on November 21, 2007.

[edit] Green Bay Packers
He signed a 1-year deal with the Packers on December 1, 2007, after they released Marviel Underwood.

[edit] Out of Football
On May 5, 2008, NFL.com showed a list of free agents and which team they will be on in the 2008 season, and it shows that Nall is not on any team.[2]

As you listed, he was basically released from the Bills because of an injured Hammy that kept him out virtually the entire preseason, after which he was released. What was left out of his stint with the Green Bay description was that he injured his Hammy in preseason and was out because of that injury until the 5th regular season game. He has not seen action since 2004.

Not a real experienced OR durable history...........seems to mirror Schaub's. Oh well, I guess with Kubiak, "similarity" breeds comfort level.
