The Texans didn't make any trades today, but they did place guard Fred Weary on waivers.
Weary, an original Texan who was a third-round pick in 2002, had been on injured reserve since training camp. He was injured in the 28-20 loss at Tennessee on Dec. 2, suffering a fractured tibia and fibula that required season-ending surgery.
During Weary's absence, Mike Brisiel played well down the stretch, and the Texans closed with a 3-1 record. Coach Gary Kubiak said Brisiel played well enough to earn the starting job and that Weary would have to win it back when he returned.

Too bad. I thought Fred was in the midst of his best season last yr. But, I reckon between the injury and the fact that I don't think he fits the ideal mold for a ZBS guy, they thought it best to release him.

So, now we wait for the other shoe to drop, or as Newton stated - "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction."

not being callous, but out with the old Texans and let's move on to the new team.

best of luck Mr. Weary, but we need to cut ties with the previous remnants of this franchise.

That's not being callous at all. It wasn't laden with hate or any of that stuff. You wished the guy luck and said it's time to move on...

Good luck Fred.

He was on the IR right, so no open roster spots ?

I think that's true.
I hope arbitration does right by him.
and I'm still not convinced that Brisell is better that a healthy Fred Weary. ...but he's not healthy.

Post-whoring today...

If he was on the IR can one waiver him? I guess he would have been on the PUP?

I guess that would necessitate a settlement, or am I completely off here ?

The Chronic said an arbitrator would have to come in to make the call as to how much Fred is due - if anything. I would think he should get something.

Since he's on IR I don't think this opens up a roster spot, and since he was released while he was injured he can ask for an injury settlement. It's a shame because I thought, when healthy, he was a great compliment to Winston on the right side. Best of luck to him though.

A typical injury settlement would be to pay him for the amount of games it would take him to heal to game ready condition. The arbitrtor helps make that determination. Of course, individual cases vary.

Am I completely off in thinking that once a team and a player choses the settlement option, there is a fair chance that the players injury is so severe that his career is over?

So the real question is, does Fred move away from Houston, and specifically, away from HPD?

I'm sure they'll be willing to pull out the shocker for old times sake :)

Todd Wade played again after taking an injury settlement here, so some do.
