The Texans are ranked 5th in total offense in the NFL. I think this is the highest we have ever been ranked.

The odd part of this is our give way/ take away at a -8! Firstly, how can you be ranked so highly with such a bad G/T percentage?

You want a better question? Where would we be if we had not given the ball up 8 more times than we got it?

I am impressed with the offense considering the defensive teams we have played so far.

Apparently, they don't count turnovers, just total yardage and maybe points scored. The answer to the second question is probably 4-1--don't that make you sick?

PS-That's why I'm so hard on our turnover-happy QBs.

That's just a yards per game average that we are 5th in the league. We are actually 17th in points scored per game which is what really matters.

But, we are 16th in the league in rushing yards per game, which is a heck of an improvement from last year!

Oops, we are 16th in the league in rushing yards per game...sorry... I'll correct that.

No they don't but if you go to NFL.com and pull up stats, look at all the strong teams that the Texans are smack dab in the middle of. Then look to the far right. We really stand out as an oddity.

Impressive.

I said last week that this is a better team than their 0-4 record revealed. Give them a few more weeks and maybe we can be .500. If they'd just quit giving up the ball at the worst times we could have won some of these games. AJ coughing up the ball at the goal line was heartbreaking, and then seeing it happen again on Eugene Wilson's fumble after the INT just made me feel like our team is cursed sometimes. Fortunately, the football gods smiled on us in spite of our stupid mistakes.

But, we are 20th in the league in rushing yards per game, which is a heck of an improvement from last year!

In part because we move the ball downfield really well and then give the ball away.

Our offense started to improve considerably towards the end of last year. And since our run game is better this year, it is now complementing the pass game. We just have to cut down on turnovers and this could be a pretty powerful offense.

Cut down on the turnovers a lot of things change for this team.

We've had atleast three turnovers in every game except 1....

Defense has been taking the ball away at a pretty good rate too...

We are dead last in turnover ratio. Nice stat there. :gun:

TedC, I have been on about this since last season. Last year we turned it over 38 times. This year we've given it away 13 times in 5 games. That puts us on pace for 41+ giveaways this season. Goodness knows we don't have a defense that can reliably get the ball back or force 3-&-outs three times a game.

That has to be fixed!!

Interesting. I have other oddity info in my latest blog post:

Gary Kubiak, Coach of the Week? (http://blogs.chron.com/texanschick/2008/10/gary_kubiak_coach_of_the_week.html)

The Battle Red Blog link is particularly interesting.
