Good game on tomorrow, looking forward to it. I am interested in watching this Bradford kid, I haven't seen him play but have heard a lot of good things about him. Should be fun.

I haven't seen him play so I want to see how good he really is. I'll be pulling for the Longhorns because in College I pull for all Texas teams especially when they play teams from Oklahoma.:kingkong:

T-minus 30 minutes!!

I can't wait...should be a good game. Everyone knows OU has a good team this year w/ a great QB at the helm. Some don't realize how well TX has been playing. McCoy has played lights out so far and I love the way Wil Muschamp has a very young defense playing. It's anybody's game, but IMO, if anyone thinks OU is just going to run away w/ this one, they haven't really watched McCoy or the TX defense play under Muschamp.

The TX defensive line has been able to apply heavy pressure on all the opposing team so far...that will be a key. Can TX front four w/ Roy Miller & Orakpo still get to Bradford w/ OU's good Oline? Another key matchup IMO is the experienced WRs of OU against the two starting freshman safeties of TX. I've been very impressed w/ the way the two freshman have played so far, but they haven't faced a pass offense like this yet. Should be a good one!

HOOK 'EM Horns!!

OU is better at the skill positions (all of them in fact WR, TE, RB) so I'm giving them the edge.......Texas really doesn't even have a "go to/top" RB and that's going to hurt them. Their WRs while very solid aren't the NFL caliber WRs that Bradford is going to throwing to today either......it amazes me how Stoops always rolls in with this kinda talent (and I bet they're all from Texas too)....makes me sick.

7-3 OU at the end of the 1st.

OU is getting a lot of pressure on McCoy. No running game so far either.

Texas isn't getting much pressure on Bradford at all, but the secondary has the WR's locked down. Bradford has been forced to tuck it and run about 5 times already.

As soon as I type this the 2nd quarter begins and OU goes straight down the field for another TD.

Its 21-20 OU at the half.

A few things:

Running Game - OU has 13 yards on 13 attempts. Texas has -3 yards on 15 attempts.

Texas is winning the turnover battle & the special teams battle, but they are still losing.

Texas is controlling the clock but they are averaging 4.9 yards per play to OU's 7.3.

Hardcore Texan

Do they announcers on the field and in studio seem to favor OU or is just me? I have heard several comments that have made me scratch my head. Stuff like "It's close but Texas has a special teams TD and a pick" .....and? It's a freaking team effort. The pick was caused by defensive pressure.

What about the non-touchdown by OU on the first drive, what about the non-pick UT almost had that would have 98 yards the other way. How about crazy TD that was deflected right into the WR hands? Apparently that's just standard ass whippin' but UT has gotten lucky?

And why can't OU fans and their stupid band get there own freaking symbol, all they do is do the "Horns" sign upside down......it makes me want to punch 'em. /rant.

OU is a very strong team, we will have our hands full in the second half, maybe a sack and a forced fumble by Arakpo or another pick can win it for us, it will be tough sledding. Good game so far. Hook 'em baby!

bah007
10-11-2008, 01:06 PM
I think the lean from the announcers has to do with the fact that OU was favored by more than a TD.

That's true, but its also by design.

OU has an explosive offense & they are making big plays against the young UT secondary.

Texas is coached by a very very very very conservative offensive coordinator so they move the ball very slowly down the field.

I think this is a benefit to Texas because the longer they hold the ball the less time Bradford has with the ball.

This is the worst I have ever seen from a group of referees.

The TD for OU at the beginning of the game where the kid clearly did not cross the goal line.

The two personal fouls on OU when they "hit" McCoy out of bounds.

And the two penalties on Texas when they "hit" the punter.

Another easy score for the Sooners. That punt call was a killer... and even though it was an acting job - it was still a penalty - I don't think it was the personal foul variety of call, right? Just the 5-yarder, and it was 4th and 4, so that's not actually one of the bad calls of the game.

I think Loadholt is destined for the right side on the next level. I'm looking forward to the review up there to watch all these downs Orakpo took off. Ok the guy is going up an OT projected to go in the top forty or so next April...makes a difference. I saw a guy giving everything he had every snap.

I'm guilty too. On paper OU is clearly the better team in terms of athletes. My keys to the Texas Win...OU lost #8 Ryan Reynolds early in the second quarter. Once he was out of the game, Texas found their running game. Two knee operations... Reynolds will be a second day, roll the dice guy, low pick. That knee will scare everyone. But it is clear he is an outstanding sidelines to sidelines athlete.
* Saw early this morning that Reynolds is out for the season. Get you a whistle kid. There are worse things in life than being a coach.

Ulatoski is a great OL prospect...gave up zero sacks...to a great first step guy. And got on the second level and helped spring the big run in the third quarter. And that is twice the guy has executed a key block in this big game. * the block was @ the 4:40 mark of the forth quarter.

Only a stubborn fool would deny Colt McCoy is a very nice QB prospect. On paper UT shouldn't of even been close. McCoy just didn't keep the horns in the game....He dominated the game.

Finally, without Orakpo's constant pressure, this game isn't close. I'm going to be interested to count up all of these plays he took off. Looked to me he was not rotating with anyone.

No way Texas passes up a SEC team for the number one slot. No way.

Texas still has to get by Texas Tech, Oklahoma State & A& M. Then beat Missouri or OU in a rematch in the championship Game. They jump through all of those hoops and they aren't in the BCS game....It's all bull dung.

I will agree that LSU beating Florida in the swamp will be impressive, but Auburn is not impressive. Right now Auburn is up on Arkansas 7-3 in the 4th. A team that Alabama beat and Texas beat 52-10.

The idea that offenses suck in the SEC only because the defenses are so good is skewed. SEC offense suck because QB play or players not executing.

Texas deserves one of the top 2 spots after beating OU by 10 in a neutral site. Plus they have mizzou OKST and TTech to deal with, so its not like they will stay #1 or #2 unless they really deserve it.

Fair yes, accurate no. Both teams got horrible calls against them so it was fair. But both roughing passer calls was BS, and yes on the 2nd one he was trying to help Colt stay up, but that actually backfired on him. Heres a hint, when the guy goes out of bounds, STAY AWAY.

No matter what Sodom on Town Lake does , it will never be good enough for some folks. From what I've seen so far, their ain't no QBs in the SEC this year. Not on the caliber of the big twelve anyway. Texas will have to win out to get there. Anyone of these QBs get hot they can beat anyone. Including LSU, Florida and Auburn.
Come on that should Lady Bird Lake.

If you're a UT fan you don't have to care about where they will rank this week or even the coming weeks. They have their destiny in their own hands. If they run the table the rest of the way they will be in the NC game and that is all that matters.

Just consider every week a playoff game with no room to slip up.

Great game!!!! It was outstanding to beat Oklahoma!

Colt showed that he could come back and answer over and over. The D under Muschamp showed that they could make some important stops. This team is playing with heart finally. Thank you Muschamp! Even though Greg Davis called a pretty good game finally.

Now it's time to hunt down Chase Daniels!

LSU beating Florida and Auburn would be slightly more impressive, IMO, than Texas just having beat OU and no one else thus far.

The rankings won't mean much this week anyway though. If Texas beats Missouri next week, they will definitely be either #1 or #2.

Auburn just lost to Arkansas 25-22 at home. Texas beat Arkansas 52-10 at home. Beating Florida in Gainsville would certainly be impressive but beating Oklahoma in Dallas is a bigger accomplishment.

My rankings will be based on what happens in the LSU-FLorida, Oklahoma State-Missouri, and Penn State-Wisconsin.

I just looked up their schedule:

Mississippi
@Tennessee
Arkansas State
@LSU
Mississippi State
Auburn

I could see them losing to LSU .... The way Auburn has played lately I cant see them losing that one.

The Horns on the other hand have a real tough run begining with OU today.

Missouri
Oklahoma State
@Texas Tech
Baylor
@Kansas
Texas A&M

Mizzou maybe has a letdown after todays loss
OSU is a very physical team , I was impressed with them
TT in Lubbock with title hopes on the line
Kansas is no slouch

If they win out they will have earned a shot at the title.

It is unlikely that the Longhorns will win out. They can, but this is one grueling schedule. Even if they can manage to lose only one game to one of the ranked teams on their schedule, then they will most likely play for the Big 12 Conference Championship against Missouri probably. If they can manage to win that game, then Texas should at the very least make it to a BcS bowl.

Yeah , this is one hell of a schedule not to mention the possibility of playing Mizzou a second time in the Big12 Championship game .... which I had completely forgotten about until reading your post.

I think its quite possible we wake up Monday and have a new #1 with the way Bama struggled w/ Kentucky along with the UT win over OU , Mizzou's loss and LSU's loss. They will be no lower than #2 unless of course Penn St. leaps them but I dont see that happening.

At the end of it all, Texas will have one of the toughest strength of schedules in the nation.

An undefeated Texas gets into the championship game no matter what.

Penn St plays in a weak conference. I could actually see a 1-loss USC or Alabama getting over them in the polls.

If Texas were to run the table, then they're in for sure.

I can't see Penn State winning out even with that pony schedule. If they did, you're probably right that they'd put a one loss SEC team in or USC. However, it would be hard to turn Jo PA away if he were to run the table as old as he is. It would make for a great story for them.

Well with that grueling schedule Corrosion, it is likely that we lose one game. If we can get through Missouri, though then our chances are really good.

I'm just a little worried that maybe Mack Brown gets a little laid back down the stretch. I just don't have a ton of confidence in Mack's ability to game plan week after week and be prepared for this many tough games that we could potentially lose. Greg Davis had a pretty good game plan yesterday, and probably the best game I've ever seen him call against Oklahoma, but he still had a few costly mistaken calls like that play on 3rd and 1 where he called a bootleg and Colt threw that INT in the end zone where the refs gave us a break (Thank god!). Mack and GD both make me nervous with as many years as I've seen them have previous teams unprepared.

On the flip side though......

We did just beat Oklahoma and that will now give this team a true confidence that they haven't had since VY left. The biggest reason for that is WIll Muschamp's presence and gritty attitude that seems to have transcended onto both sides of the ball. So now we have beaten the toughest opponent on the season schedule at least, so in the -player's minds they know they can beat anyone left on the schedule.

The most surprising and fulfilling thing about this season is how this offense has played so well under Colt's leadership. Going into the season, Texas had less talent as far as pure play makers than it has had in years and years, but yet so many guys are OVER ACHIEVING and making things happen better than any other Longhorn team has at this point with exception to the one that won the NC a few years back. Cosby wasn't looked at as some stud or anything, but he is making plays all over the place and thus far has been a better player than Roy Williams, Limas Sweed, and B.J Johnson were at this point. And Shipley has been a freaking bad ass as well. He now reminds me of Jeff Samardzija a few years back at ND. The RB's have not been great, but collectively as a unit they are getting it done. We also lost BAINE IRBEY who looked like he might be the best TE Texas has had in years.

MIssouri will most likely win the Big 12 North so if we get to the Big 12 Championship we'll either play them or Kansas, so we'd have to play either one of them twice which will be NO PICNIC IN THE PARK in either game.

Any way, for now I'll be celebrating this win over Oklahoma all week. Nothing makes me happier than to beat Bob Stoops!

The AP Poll doesn't count for anything.

But in the Harris Poll OU is #4 & USC #5.

In the Coaches Poll USC is #4 & OU #6.

In the human polls the rule has always been to lose early and then climb back up in the end.

OU isn't dropping because they lost to the #1 team.

USC isn't dropping because they are #3 in strength of schedule (they sure as hell won't be after they play through that weak ass conference).

classic win by the Horns saturday and Colt finally played well in a big game. it was all nice to see. i feel Mizzou is a bit overrated and the same with Tech. call me crazy but our toughest game the rest of the year is the A&M game. I know that A&M is one of the worst teams in college football, but they have Colt's number and most importantly, scoreboard. Maybe Colt can turn his fortunes against A&M like he did against OU but I don't think its a foregone conclusion.

I wasn't banking on a NC anyways, I just wanted Colt to beat the rivals because we owed both of them bigtime and he is halfway home on that one. we beat the big brother rival now its time to beat the pesky little brother rival who has kicked our arse of late.

great game by the longhorns, i'm man enough to say that & eat my crow even though i don't like them at all. They played damn near a flawless game & got the breaks when they needed them. I knew OU would be ripe for an upset just b/c of how closely ranked the longhorns were to them & OU's recent performances in big games. Add in that it's a rivalry game & as everyone knows anything can happen.

While i'm sure lots of fans are happy that they are now ranked #1, the way the college football season has been thus far for the #1 ranked team, that might end up being a curse, especially with the target on their backs now.

Not to mention they have set up Oklahoma perfectly to jump back to 1 or 2 should Texas stumble.

This could very easily turn into a case of OU winding up one or two in the BCS standings at the end of the regular season, but not playing in the Big 12 Championship game. So then what? Drop OU down for no real reason like they did UGA last year? Let 'em stay 1 or 2 when they couldn't win the conference like OU did in 2003?

True, but they would have just barely lost to the #1 team in the country in my scenario. Why would that make them the #8 team in the country? They didn't lose to all those other teams 6 teams. All that would tell us is they aren't the #1 team in the country and it doesn't tell us that they aren't better than those 6 other teams in front of them who in all likelyhood would be blown out by OU. If it took the #1 team in the country a last second field goal to beat them then it tells me Texas is closer to #2 than #8.

I actually think that is what might be hurting them just a little bit. They know that have all of that talent and they continue to hear that they are so stacked, so it is almost like they just expect to win and think it will easily happen as oppose to feeling like they have to work their tails off to achieve success. In the Big 12 South alone I think that there are four teams that could line up and beat them on any given day on a neutral field. UT , OU , OSU and TT. Then you can add the rest of the country.

Their loss came from a team who wont sniff the top 25 .... When the BCS rankings come out , I'd bet that knocks them down the list below all the SEC one loss teams as well as OU and Mizzou based on SOS alone.

certainly some truth to that as far as USC goes but we both may not agree as to how much of it is present. I mean it's not like they've lost 2-3 games this year, they lost 1 close game to a team on the road that apparently has had their number the last couple of years; kinda like you guys & A&M.

Each of those polls has them ahead of three as well as once beaten teams from the SEC in LSU and Florida (two of three) and Georgia who easily play tougher competition.

Texas has the D to run the table. Muschamp has instilled that fire in this team, and just one the defensive side of the ball either. He has made many guys feel like they can do anything, and you are really seeing it in guys like SHipley and Cosby and now Obbania (Mis spell) as well. Sergio Kindle is just getting started as far as being a dominant play maker for this D His best football is yet to come, and just wait until Jared Norton gets more involved.

The offensive side of the ball will be determined upon how well the O line can continue to block for Colt and how many BIG plays can Colt consistently make. Colt has proven that he is a STUD and can answer over over and over, but Texas has to have more games where the D dominates and Colt isn't forced to be incredible just to win against some of these teams down the stretch that have really good offenses. Plus, it will be helpful when we get Fozzy Whitaker back which he should be this week against Missouri.

I really don't care if Fozzy makes it back in time for Mizzou. He has been explosive in practice but we haven't seen anything from him against a real opponent.

Ogbonnaya deserves to be the man at running back. They gave him the shot. He earned it. He made the best of it.

Give Ogbonnaya the rock 20 times against Mizzou & let Cody Johnson handle it in short yardage.

Mizzou has speed on defense but they are soft. Hit em in the mouth with our two big guys.

Plus, it will be helpful when we get Fozzy Whitaker back which he should be this week against Missouri.

this is where we disagree...Texas' d didn't dominate anything Bradford pretty mcuh tore them apart. Both teams essentially had the same game plan on defense & IMO OU executed it a bit better Colt just made plays with his feet that bradford couldn't make & Stoops screwed the pooch on 2 seperate occasions.

It might be a tad bit tougher to pass rush & blitz on Daniels as he's more mobile than bradford & just about equal to bradford as a passer. I still think that UT will win though.

Other than that,

Texas killed the OU running game. Killed it.

They made OU one-dimensional & that is why Bradford had so much passing yards.

They are #4 in the coaches poll (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/poll?poll=Coaches) .... the one that matters.

#5 in the Harris Poll (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/poll?poll=Harris)

and #6 in the AP (http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/poll?poll=AP)

Each of those polls has them ahead of three as well as once beaten teams from the SEC in LSU and Florida (two of three) and Georgia who easily play tougher competition.

A loss to a team who is outside the top 25 doesnt earn you a spot above those teams IMO.

it's all subjective..After watching the games these past couple of weeks, Florida is the only team i 'd say could beat USC 2 out of 3 times. everyone else....

Well they were playing one of the best offenses in college football. Did you expect the Texas D to totally shut them down. No way that was going to happen. I don't think you realize how many young guys that have in that secondary that are playing at a really high level right now.

Earl Thomas is RS Freshman that just came away with two picks in that game and a few nice tackles. He will be the next Michael Griffin for them.

Chiki Brown is another Freshman I believe and has a lot of size for a CB. They still have Palmer, Aaron Williams who is a young stud and Beasley who can make things happen.

Blake Gideon is another really young safety as well.

This is a really young secondary, but they have worlds of talent and if Texas's pass rush can continue to be a good as it has, then this young secondary won't have to play lights out and things will come easier for them. Texas has as good of LB's as anyone in the country. Muckleroy, Kindle, and Norton are all studs that each have at least one more year there.

This win is going to give this D a lot more confidence, and don't sleep on the fact that they did have two key stops at the end of the game that showed some character and heart. Definitely something to continue to grow on.

That's like saying you killed texas tech's rushing offense even though they're clearly a passing team....i.e. it doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of their offense...at least not to the extent it did when they had Peterson. OU had been running the ball well, but by no means was the running game a major factor in how they ran their offense....

When you consider All but 1 game Bradford had 300+ passing yards & 3 TD's... they've been a passing team all year & that didn't change saturday.

No, not knocking the young talent they had back there I figured that would be something that OU took advantage of & they did...I'm just saying that UT won that game saturday more b/c the offense kept up with OU's than it was Texas' defense stopping OU. At that point it was more of who blinked 1st & UT just outlasted them in that regard.

case in point, Every time OU seemingly was about to pull away Davis & McCoy put together a long scoring drive to kind of say " it's not over yet.."

OU averaged 3.9 yards per carry coming into the game. Texas held them to 1.8.

OU averaged 179 rushing yards per game coming in. Texas held them to 48.

OU averaged 540 offensive yards per game coming in. Texas held them to 435.

Granted, they did throw for about their average in the air. But because they couldn't run, they couldn't use play action.

I give Bradford a ton of credit. He is a great QB. But in crunch time, the Texas D did what it had to do to win.

Fixed it for ya.....I thought I was only one thinking way overrated.

Ohio St. went from 5 to 14 for losing to the #1 team. So if anyone is going to say that OU should only drop 3 spots for losing to the #1 team then they need to look at what happened to Ohio State.

The only difference is that Ohio State was overrated. They are winning games by 3 or 7 points to teams they should be crushing 52-10.

This is how I think the top 10 should be.

1.) Texas - Won all their games decisively and beat OU in the RRR.
2.) Alabama - Look strong in the running game and beat Georgia making it look easy.
3.) Penn State - Talented squad that has wins against Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin.
4.) Florida - Only loss was by 1 point to SEC team Ole Miss and dominated LSU.
5.) BYU - High scoring offense who can score on anyone.
6.) Texas Tech - Another high scoring offense but a loss would drop them big time.
7.) Oklahoma State - Good QB play gives them an undefeated record and win against Mizzou.
8.) USC - Weak loss to OSU dropped them but they have a good chance of running the table on the rest of their schedule with a chance at the NCG.
9.) Oklahoma - No big wins yet, but a team that can beat anyone.
10.) Georgia - Talented QB and RB, but got ran over by Alabama and need more wins to move up the list.

Huge difference there...Ohio State was absolutely crushed by USC. that showed that not only were they overrated, they didn't belong at all in the top 10 let alone 5....hence the huge drop.

& How on earth you guys can rank USC 8th & rank Florida #4 even though the exact same thing happened to Florida the same week & in the same fashion no less is beyond me. Especially since USC has already beaten 2 ranked teams & Florida only 1. They are the exact same team imo; a wealth of talent all over the field, great coaches, they both just had a hiccup. If you're placing a premium on SEC play, then UT shouldn't have jumped Alabama. I can't tell if you guys are being serious or biased in the sense that u just don't like USC.

I'm going by what i've seen thus far this season & I think these 5 in no specific order will wind up rising to the top in the end... Florida, USC, Alabama, Texas & OU make my top 5 with Penn State pushing Texas & OU hard.

I disagree that you think Oregon State and Ole Miss are the same caliber of team.

Also as far as Alabama goes, I cant imagine any team deserving of the #1 spot for having a bye. You dont "advance to go" for being idle. Besides their win over Clemson and Auburn dont even look like quality wins at this point. Those teams are horrible.

USC loses points for playing in the Puff-10. If you can't run the table there, you don't belong in the title game IMO.

Although if they win out, PSU, has a case, IMO, anything other than a Big 12 vs. SEC matchup in the title game will be a crime.

Ummm.. they pretty much are. they have 3 losses each, 1 great win against a top 5 team & neither are currently ranked. Ole Miss doesn't get points b/c they play in a tougher conference, especially since they really haven't played any of those tough opponnents (except for florida). Neither should OSU for playing 3 top 15 teams either. They are who they are; the Texas Tech's of their respective conferences.

Also as far as Alabama goes, I cant imagine any team deserving of the #1 spot for having a bye. You dont "advance to go" for being idle. Besides their win over Clemson and Auburn dont even look like quality wins at this point. Those teams are horrible.

no team should be able to leap frog you either mainly based on the fact that you didn't play..especially a team 3 spots behind you from the jump. & you really don't want to compare Alabama's schedule to UT's at this point b/c it's not even close as to who had the tougher road despite Clemson & Auburn being horrible.

We can just agree to disagree, espcially since the BCS rankings aren't out yet...

I think it's funny that people think the SEC is the best conference in college right now. They say the offenses have been so crappy because the defenses are out of this world amazing. Uh-huh.

Big 12 > Sec. This year at least

For the first time in as long as I can remember, the SEC is not the best conference in college football.

They were last year.

They are not this year.

That doesn't mean they won't be next year.

Lot of good football players coming out of the south. Especially out of the Florida HS programs. Great athletes no doubt.

What I know for a fact there are a few fellows on the Cypress Bay HS defensive team still searching for the FB with the ball when Katy unleashed the wrap around draw on them. The last time I saw anything bite that hard it had a hook dangling out of it's mouth. They were so lost they could of been charged for admission to the game. Ball handling has become a lost art on all levels of football. More than a Utah Pass can be run in a second and long and third and long situation. And that one was for coach Mike Johnson were ever you are.
