I think Matt Schaub will be okay to start vs the Colts next Sunday. I don't mind hearing differing opinions in this thread.

I think he played extremely well today. All the calls to start Sage have been BS in my mind. Last weeks meltdown was a team meltdown...not just a QB meltdown.

and trade Sage for some good picks we are going to need them ......

Matt stepped up amidst a firestorm of criticism and starting 0-3 in the face. He did everything asked of him once the team showed up. You can pin that one on Kubiak. He feels this inane desire to play from behind the moment the whistle blows.

I support Matt fully moving forward and am sorry that the offense's performance was wasted by the pathetic defense.

Not much to say beyond that.....

I'm gonna hop on this bandwagon.. never really left in the first place.

Matt is my guy, and I know he can succeed with us. I just hope we get him some help in the off-season.

When I see SUSTAINED consistency, then I'll repent and ask for forgiveness.

Oh, and I PREDICTED this past week that Schaub would pull such a game from his arse...furthermore, I predicted that everyone would be all sunshine and smiles afterward as if things are okie dokie now.

Our team sucks SO bad, that you guys are hanging your hats on Schaub finally playing like the QB he was paid to be. What's his record over the past 12 games? And what's his record on the road?

Kubiak's brain fart KILLED Schaub's good performance today. Let's make sure we slow down and not get so excited about this "moral" victory. I've had it, and so have fans--Go check all the "sick and tired of the 'moral' victory stuff" posts in the gameday thread.

If you want to argue the brilliance of Schaub vs. Sage, then so be it.

I don't know - you tell us. Question though: Does today's good game count as a loss for him, or a loss for the team, or a loss for Kubiak?

Hanging wins and losses on the QB is total BS. Schaub did more to win the game today than most of the players out there, but by your standard (and so many others'), Schaub lost the game today. I call BS.

he's 4-12 as a starter and 2-10 as starter in his last 12 for us.

now I will concede it does not all fall on his shoulders, that was the problem with Carr he got all the blame, but it is safe to say there has been a regression in what schaub has done from the first 7 games he started from the last 7 he started.

He played a fantastic game...and his success is shared with the offensive line who gave him solid protection. The next four home games should give Schaub and the offense plenty of opportunity to shine.

Agreed! Amazing how folks in here are all happy and proud after another loss that now makes us 0-3. I'm not surprised though.

We lost today because Schaub didn't call timeout in the 1st Q on 4th and 4 and Jax was not in punt formation and our punt team and coachs could not figure it out.

I think the Matt Schaub of the last 3 weeks has been a completely different QB. I think all the Rosenfelders are going to be saying that Rosie's just a winner and he would have willed that coin toss to our side. Schaub kept a lot of drives alive with great 3rd down plays (and Walter helped a lot with it too). If nothing else he deserves the start against the Colts because he played well today.

And yeah, his record isn't good. But how many of those games were Schaub's fault and how many of them were not. It's hard to say based on just straight numbers cuz I don't remember all the games behind the numbers. That said, Schaub has proven that he can lead an offense. He made no mistakes (turnovers) today. And I can guarantee if the coin toss went the other way, a lot of homers would be out praising his glory.

So yeah, we lost, but we also couldn't stop jax on 3rd and 4th downs. We could cover Garrard's receivers but couldn't cover Garrard. The offense scored on every possession in the second half, but the last score wasn't a TD. So the blame has to be spread out over the offense and the defense.

So if you're just skimming here's the bottom line: start Schaub, he earned it with his play this week. But if he sucks against the Colts, he needs to know that just because your paycheck is higher, doesn't mean you get to play if you suck.

i change my mind Matt is the starter but we still are 0-3

and we should keep sage around just in case things continue to go south from here

You know I've always been a Schaub > Sage guy. I think that he'll be fine this year, even if he does have a bad game back to back or whatever.

All I'm sayin is Start Matt Schaub Sunday vs the Colts. That's all. Do you disagree with that GP?

Oh cmon now...NOBODY enjoyed this loss. Its the hope for the future that still remains now that keeps us in better spirits today. If you really thought this team was going to dominate early this season... or you guaranteed a playoff spot for us then thats your own fault. We are a year away at least. But after the game at Pitt to open the season the worst thoughts running through most fans minds was that there is now a possible risk that we may have to start completely over as a francise... AGAIN and be even more years away from being a legit team. Meaning, everything we thought we were building for.... for the LONG TERM for these past couple of seasons was in jeopardy in our minds. Devastating. It looked that bad at Pitt. Our play has definitely changed dramatically since that Pitt game despite the record and you cant deny that. Not predicting anything but we played much better at Tenn than we did in Pitt, but we shot ourselves in foot (meaning things you can fix easier than lack of talent). Do you really expect AJ to continue dropping touchdown passes all year?? Then theres us playing even better this week on the road again.. and losing the game due to a simple coin toss. I mean did you predict a dominant win or something in this game even before the season started??

Opening up at Pitt and at Tenn (two nasty defenses) to start the season on the road, dealing with a destructivfe hurricane, having a lot of moving parts to start the season(i.e.Gibbs new running scheme), new O-linemen, Dunta hurt, schedule change, more rookies starting, etc,etc,etc... was just not a healthy way to start a season. Period. Again, this game was simply decided by a coin flip. On the road to a team that just took care of the colts on the road last week. We have definitely improved. This team can definitely upset the colts next week at home, then we play the Lions, Dolphins, and the Bengals. The season is not lost yet by any means. But what I am really trying to tell you is that our main long term future under this regime is definitely not lost. Not guaranteed... but definitely not lost. There is good in that. Who else reading this knew that we still had a few more holes to fill coming into this season before we were some super legit playoff team?? There is plenty of ball left to be played to be able to come to any drastic conclusions or demanding changes that in reality wouldnt guarantee anything better. Were we supposed to just go 14-0 starting today and here on out...and thats all that would have been acceptable to you??? Lots of ball to be played and I am now not completely lost as a Texans fan. Those first couple of weeks had me pretty worried though. Now lets beat the Colts!

There's a difference between "happy and proud" and "wanting to see the real problem fixed".

The problem with this team isn't Schaub. You can look at several aspects of this team, but every time he's gotten decent protection (today's was an unbelievable combination of pocket being formed and him sliding to the right place) he's played well. I hope this gives him a little confidence in himself and something to build on.

The defense, that's another story.

I don't think anyone with any actual football sense wanted Schaub benched after two road losses to great defenses. All he needed was a chance to get in a groove.

First game, 5 sacks, constantly pressured, he played like crap.
Second game, 3 sacks, pressured often, he played like crap.
Third game, 0 sacks, much less pressure, he played great.

No, it wasn't ALL the O-line's fault in those first two games, but you have to give your QB a chance to get his rhythm.

It looked like Schuab finally woke up this game. Hopefully he stays in the groove.

Matt is a career Backup. with a record like he has who can deny it.

He is paid the big bucks and still takes almost a half to get warmed up

If you say Sage is a career Back up then Shaub is a career backup behind him.

This game was lost by Jaques Reeves and his meltdown no look no defending ability in the 4th quarter, We need to send this guy back the the GD cowgirls and get our money back.

So we should start Sage Rosefels next week then. . . right? Is that what you're trying to say because otherwise I'm not understanding what point you're trying to make other than our QB's suck (Which is fair given their performance, or Matt's performance before this game).

Joe Texan doesn't have a clue what he's talking about, so I wouldn't bother to ask. I mean, this isn't a political thread - but they guy literally thinks that Barack Obama is a Muslim. That should tell you all you need to know about about him in football, life, or anything else.
