Not sure if this has been posted yet, if so I apologize. He's got the Texans at 23 behind both Cincinnatti and Detroit. Really Dr. Z???? Also the Tacks at 12. In my best Ozzie Guillen, Pffft Please! :texflag:

Does this so-called Dr. actually have the Vikings at #4? McKinnie is suspended for the first four games, and I'll be surprised if All Day stays healthy All Year.

My Texans at #23 is absurd. If nothing, we have better offensive play than many of the other teams ranked above us on his "list." The Jets at #14?!? Really Dr. D(umbass)? So let's get this right - a 4-12 team with many new additions is better going into the season than an 8-8 team with very few. I call bull$%&! on this one:crazy:

Wake me up when dr. Z doesn't sound like a sportswriter with alzheimers

I don't care where they have us rated NOW. Now, if at the end of the year we are in the top 8... well that's a different story. Is a team that has never had a winning season and hasn't been able to stay healthy deserve to be in the 20s when we have a tough schedule and are in the best division in football? Maybe. Tacks at 12? No. I hope that these things are posted in the locker room to give the team some fire.

I don't think Dr. Z has accurately predicted anything in the last 15 years, so take his rankings with a grain of salt.

Disagree....his week 17 rankings are usually pretty close to spot on. :)

google pre-season rankings and you'll probably find one you like somewhere. 23 is the lowest I've seen us in the 2008 pre-season ranking pile, and 15 was the highest.

Eh, he doesn't think much of us every year and we haven't done much to persuade him otherwise.... every year. Gotta win to get respect, so on and so forth, blah blah blah. On a side note, it is funny to see ESPiN's talking heads touting the Panthers as a legit contender year after year only to see them suck it up.

Actually, he picked the Giants to upset the Pats in the Superbowl.

I think I just got the redass seeing some of the teams he ranked ahead of the texans. It could just the homer in me but I think the texans are far superior to cincinnatti and detroit.

Very interesting where he has the Eagles. #7. I don't see being as good as alot of people are predicting. I don't see a whole lot of consistency with that team.

I really hope we aren't in the Ravens, Dolphins, Lions category this year.

The drivers older than me are all senile, blind people who drive 20 and run over people on the sidewalk, and those younger than me are all crazy kids probably drunk or high who all drive like maniacs.

those to my policial left are all communist pinkos, and those to my right are abortion clinic bombers.

It may be an anology but that's what I always think when I read these kinds of threads.:devilpig:

Unless the pundit is Adam Schefter, in which case, screw him even if he does think we're improved.

Any NFL rankings such as this so-called Dr. Z's Power Rankings amount to Jack Squat. They do not determine who will play for the Super Bowl unlike a certain college sport.

It really annoys me sometime. Some really bad writer who praises the Texans will be called "a brilliant writer, much better than anyone at the Chron." Then a guy like Peter King and Don Banks, two of my favorite sports writers will be called horrible journalists when they don't bow down to the Texans.

But anyway, Dr. Z is horrible at predictions.

Its simple. They dont trust us until we prove more on the field. Yes, more than just our first .500 season. Same as always, lets win more games first.

It's not just that simple though. The Texans play in a tougher division then a bunch of the teams listed above them in Dr. Z's "power" list and had a better record last year then some of the teams listed above them. I'd just like some objectivity applied. That is all.

I've got us going 7-9 to 9-7. So is this the season they put three wins in a row together for the first time in franchise history ? Been six years. Have they grown up enough to find a winning streak ? I agree the rankings are pretty meaningless.

Unless of course you're the cow gurls and are expected to win the SB every year. Can't get two in a row until you win the first one. If we're frivolously cast amongst the also rans out of hand...there's a pretty good reason for that. They've never put a winning streak together...ever. Until they do it, it's all talk. You are what your record says you are. And right now we are an eight and eight club looking for three wins in a row. Sounds pretty close to 23 to me.

And right now we are an eight and eight club looking for three wins in a row. Sounds pretty close to 23 to me.

So let me get this straight: playing .500 ball gets you ranked in the bottom quarter of the league. Your logic is flawed my main man.

Pre season rankings mean squat!

Just ask USC and Georgia about pre season rankings.

What matters is where we are at the end of the year. If the Texans stay healthy, everything else will take care of itself.

funny how these go...if the opinion pundits agree with us they are the best writers known sinced sliced bread...if they rank us a bit too low they are friggin' idiots.

such is the logic of many Houston sports fans...napoleonic complex to the Nth degree

to quote many who have said this before 'until we start actually show more consistency and beat the occassional good team, we will never get respect....because we don't deserve it yet

as for people whining about the Jets....well the Jets just added the best DL available in Jenkins, the best QB available in Favre, and the best OL available in Faneca...couple those moves with a few other complimentary moves and take into account that they play in a weak division...voila, team has been turned around...so don't be too surprised if they end up playing up to Dr.Z's ranking.

if the Texans had added Jenkins and Faneca and Favre we would have gotten the same, if not more love. We didn't even find a suitable upgrade from Weaver...remember also that our only divisional win was against the 2nd string of Jacksonville on last day of season with Jville nothing to play for...I personally think we are going to have a hard time improving from 7-3 non-divisional and if we cant improve in-division, we will be staring another losing season in the face. Both the Jaguars and Titans look to be improved from last year with only Indy taking maybe a step or two back into the AFC South pack.

I believe in the Matt-to-AJ hookup so if we can keep those guys healthy, anything can happen.
