from the article:
"A lot of people look at Chad Johnson and say he's crazy and he does a lot of stuff, but I don't think people really understand how smart I really am," Johnson said.

This dude is an i-d-i-o-t. I hope he gets traded somewhere where there is another receiver that has his number and won't give it up. So he has to wear 86 or some other number with that name on his back. That would be perfect and make about as much sense as this moron does.

I don't know if he is crazy or just having fun but if he wanted to do it right and have his name roll off of people's tongues

He should have gone with
Chad Ocho de la cinco

I wonder if they are going to get Andres Cantor to broadcast a game or two (the guy in soccer that says goal for about 30 sec) LOL

No way will I draft him, he is off my board, I have two drafts coming up on Monday and Tuesday, between the hurt shoulder and all the belly aching in the offseason he is poised to be a major letdown this season, no thanks.

A few years ago I remember reading repeated postings from a number of people in here that said something to the effect of "Chad Johnson isn't like Terrell Owens. He's not a "cancer" or a bad guy. He's just having fun. There's nothing wrong with that."

Look at him now. It's like somebody built a copy of Owens and then at the last second dropped the brain and had to go with the "Abby-Normal" one sitting in the next jar. I wouldn't have Chad Ocho-Cinco on my team if he played for free. The guy (Just like Owens before him) is like a walking reminder that we are so lucky to have Andre Johnson on our team. Every time I see a story like I say under my breath "Thank you AJ for being normal".

Multi-name last names don't have to be hyphenated to be last names. See Jack Del Rio.

You are correct sir. There's an article in SI.com (that I am too lazy to link), but basically it opens the door to anyone change thier name from Joe Smith to Joe GoDaddy.com or Joe Toyota Tundra. He looks like a true @$$, but I seriously doubt CJ or COC cares what we think.

So what happens with old Johnson 85 jerseys? And I guess he is now going to sell a bazillion Ocho Cinco 85 jerseys.

everyone should call him ochenta y cinco. if your gonna co-opt a culture's language, don't make a mockery of the language, the league, your team, and yourself by being so damn ignorant. He has taken the Deion Sanders self-promotion thing to another level

jesus christ 2nd, he's not making a mockery of the language the words "ocho cinco" still mean something in the language it just doesn't mean what it supposed to mean in regards to his football number... & if the guy wants to change his name, who cares? it's just like gtexan said, he can always change it back.

& truthfully, it's guys like like him that help to keep the NFL as popular as it is. He's a fan favorite for a reason.

I think it's entertaining, but nobody would care about his story if he sucked as a WR. At the end of the day, what makes the NFL popular is the product on the field. Good football is what brings people back year after year.

FWIW, my wife - not a big football fan - thought this story was hilarious. So yeah, there is probably an element of hardcore and casual fans that this kind of stuff appeals to. Myself...it's a bit of a cheese act, IMO. But it's all good. It's all entertainment at the end of the day. Can't take it too serious when it's all said and done. They win/lose, we watch.

Chad Johnson is making a comeback. Three years after changing his last name to Ochocinco, the man born Chad Javon Johnson will be going back to his given surname.

"I've done enough with Ochocinco," the former Mr. Johnson told ESPN's Trey Wingo. Yes, like having the least productive stretch of his career since the name change became official.

Ochocinco didn't elaborate on why he was making the change, but given that his return to Cincinnati is questionable, the logical explanation is that he wants a fresh start wherever he ends up. That means no silly name changes and probably no fighting with his coach, like he's currently doing now. (If Ochocinco does stay in Cincinnati, he'd have to pay for the unsold "Ochocinco" jerseys.)

Personally, I used to get a kick out of CJ's little charades. At that time he was also a pretty darn good WR. Now, he's nothing more than a blowhard. He and TO just need to run off together with their little tv show. At least that way I can choose not to listen to their crap rather it being forced upon me.
