The Houston Texans have been doing things “their own way” in regards to the draft for the last three seasons. The immediate results have been a rash of criticism from “experts” around the NFL. The results on the football field have been an increase in victories over the last three years, and Houston is now considered a team with their arrow clearly pointing up. Find out what the experts say...

here's a prediction and analysis:

Houston Texans Under 7½ wins: Now the Texans are sexy picks this year as playoff longshots, but we are not buying into that just yet. Our major knock against Houston is that they really did nothing to improve a porous pass defense, and that is simply fatal in a division that includes Peyton Manning and the underrated David Garrard. We are also not totally sold on Matt Shaub as a starting quarterback, and although the running back corps looks nice on paper, the backs are all injury prone. The Texans may have a better chance at improving their record if they played in another division, but they will most likely finish last in the AFC South.

Well, why not? They are just spouting the party line. It has been true that our RBs have been somewhat fragile. It does look on paper that the secondary is in disaray. We just have to come out and prove our RBs are sturdy enough and the secondary, with a lot of new people in it, are for real. I am a fan. I think we will be 10-6 with an outside chance at the playoffs. Let's just go out and prove it to them.

I didn't even read the by-line name so I couldn't tell you who it was without going back and re-reading it.
I just liked the positive content.

I was wondering if anyone else was thinking that Ray Rhodes was brought in to be Richard Smith's successor if the defense doesn't show marked improvement this year?

i think after his strokes he's backed away from those sort of positions. i'm not saying it isn't possible but i don't think that was the intention of the hire. i think he was brought in to help develop the secondary as well as bring his overall knowledge base to the Texans defensive table.
