From the addition of the Zone Blocking Guru I am stoked about our ability to run this season. I think it will be Plug and rush for a 1000 with our running back core. Lets go Texans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ME TOO!

Here's a quote from Winston that I heard second hand on LZ's AM show this morning:

"We're going to be dominate in the run game. We're gonna run right f...in' over people"

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about this season and the potential nastiness and dominance of both lines!

I like how school starts later this year. Makes the wait between football season a lot easier.

Me too! It all starts in the trenches doesn't it? For too long, we have been too soft and passive on the lines, especially on O. That's about to change. Although the zone scheme is a bit of a finesse scheme, I still expect the Pillsburry dough boy routine to stop. Rarely do you see teams with poor lines do well, no matter how much other talent they have. I like that this braintrust has made it a point to build from the inside out. Kudos to Rick Smith, Kubes, and company. :splits:

I think most people forget that Schaub has some experience with Gibbs .So look for some great playaction fakes. I assume he was paying attention more than Vick, lol.

I think the potential is there for us to have a very good run game but it looks like we have more IFson that side of the ball than we do on defense this coming season. Just think how good we COULD be IF either Brown or Green don't miss a game due to an injury and IF D. Brown is what we hope he is, and IF Schaub stays healthy, and IF Gibbs is who we think we are. I have a good feeling about the what ifs but I have felt good about them before. BUT for right now, yes I am excited.

I agree. We have more potential than in the past and a couple less "if's" but, we still have several "if's" as mentioned above. If everything falls into place, it could be a very exciting year! I am excited about Duane Brown's potential and I'm soooo glad we didn't trade Sage. The RB's still worry me ...... I hope Chris Taylor can regain form and stay healthy and hold onto the ball. And I hope they give Darius Walker a true chance, too.

I like the RB situation. When one "if" gets hurt, we put in another "if," and another, and another. We'll just "if" them to death, lol. :jogger:

Yeah, in theory I agree with you but, most of our "if's" here are over the hill, injury prone players or young unproven talent. Here's to elevating the young unproven talent!

So we're right back to what Winston said - "We're gonna run right if'n run over people".

well, this is actually quite the opposite. it's a Zone running game. but hopefully we'll over "power" the opposing defenses!

Me too, Joe. Me too. Honestly, I'm excited about the start of every football season... but I just think we're going to be contenders this year, so I'm really pumped up. Our schedule looks tough - but really, you never know how teams are going to change from year to year. If we can just pull through that first stretch of games with our heads still on, and without much injury - I think we're going to look good.

I'm actually pretty confident that we're going to have an excellent offense. Gibbs has been great in almost every season he's used this system... and there's just no way we're going to have as many injury problems as last season... so offensively I'm feeling pretty good.

The defense - THAT is what I'm most excited about. I just can't wait to see how Mario will continue to improve, and how Amobi will also step his game up... and I really think we're poised to have one of the better linebacker corps in the game. We just have a ton of straight up ATHLETES at LB, and a couple of guys in DeMeco and Colvin who are bona fide playmakers... and maybe a couple of the younger guys will become playmakers as well.

Anyway- I'm going on and on here... but I wanted to say, I'm generally a pretty pessimistic guy, but I'm really, really excited about football. I can't wait.

I dont really care. A running game is power. Yes, its not all up the middle. But its contact!

But that's what makes them "ifs." If our "ifs" weren't "over the hill" and if our "ifs" weren't injury prone and if our "ifs" weren't young unproven talent, they wouldn't be "ifs" at all! :shocked Comprende? :shades:

"If if and buts were candy and nuts......."

.......we'd have a kickarse running game! :smiliedance:

This is true, but we've always been a bit of an "if" team, so it's a state-of-mind I'm used to! I am excited about the season, as well. It can't come soon enough!

I couldn't be more excited about our team this year with all the RB's that we have and the pass rush D. I'm pumped to see if Matt does more play action pass. Hopfully the O line will hold up pretty nicely for us.

IF and I mean IF Steve Slaton can become something like Brian Westbrook and some of the other RB's GREEN/BROWN can return to OLD form then we have a really really GREAT chance of making the PLAYOFFS!!!! YEA IM TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS!!!!!

I figure the ifs are a 60/40 chance because I slant toward the optimistic . Therefore I'm looking forward to our best season and first playoff game :fans: .

I am excieted also. Heck, look at it this way, one of these seasons between Ahman and Brown, one of them has to be healthy. And we still got Slaton. All I am saying the law of averages eventually has to give us a shot at staying semi-healthy. But on top of that, we have a lot more solid depth than before.

While the Texans rushing offense has to face 5 games this season against the top 5 rushing defenses in the league last season, it is comforting to know that while those teams possess stout rushing defenses their offenses combined average ranked in the bottom half of the league last season.

Vikings rushing defense ranked 1st in the league last season, while offense finished 13th. Tarvaris Jackson heaved the Vikings passing offense to 28th place last season... the Jackson factor along with the Vikings 32nd ranked passing defense last season ought to negate the vikings #1 rushing defense from being a huge factor this season...

Ravens defense is getting old, add to that a New Coach, and offense that is looking for its identity there is good reason to be optimistic here...

Steelers #3 rushing defense last season will be the most formidable of the top 5 defenses...

Titans defense is only getting better, but that offense is atrocious putting the optimism factor back were it belongs...

I imagine the Texans can take 3 out of 5 of these games, considering the 1,2,3 bunch they will be bringing to the QB's of the opponents who have proven time and time again to rattle under pressure...

With the exception of the Jags and Indy who ranked outside of the top 10 with their rushing defenses the rest of the teams on the schedule ranked in the bottom half of the league with their rushing defenses last season.

There is no doubt a lot of reasons to be excited this season, and the schedule filled with QB's who buckle under pressure being top on that list given the reality that the Texans defense will be bringing the heat to the QB this season.:trophy:

Look at it this way... he's still looking for work. So it's not like he's gone far.

If worse comes to absolute worse, we could still re-sign him but i really don't think he fits in with our plans for the future or the present.

I wonder who will pick him up.

I haven't even heard of him interviewing. If he gets picked up, I expect it to be a team that has a lot of injuries during training camp or a team who needs a veteran. Dayne's best qualities are that he doesn't mind blocking, he doesn't fumble very often, and he catches the ball out of the backfield. He just doesn't run with the power a guy his size should and he's bad in short yardage situations.

This might have been his last hurrah.
