Texans | R. Smith to serve on new general managers committee
Mon, 16 Jun 2008 19:25:57 -0700
The Associated Press reports Houston Texans (http://texanstalk.com/team/18/nfl) general manager Rick Smith (http://texanstalk.com/player/15074/nfl) will serve on the new general managers committee. The new committee will provide advice on protecting and supporting the integrity of the game, expanded use of technology, player development and scouting opportunities, and ways to improve the Pro Bowl, NFL Scouting Combine (http://texanstalk.com/link/183), NFL Draft (http://texanstalk.com/link/159) and preseason.

As per KFFL.com.

What does this mean for Smith? Is he going to place more attention towards the Houston Texans for this? What I'm grasping at is would he be able to bring the draft to Houston? Bring more of our players to the Pro Bowl? Have an edge on the scouting? Taking away preseason games and turning them into real ones?

Do we know who else is on this committee? I'd sure like to know and see what type of impact it had on their respective teams having their GM on this committee. Is this committee NEW or is it for new GMs? Just wanted to get a bit of clarification on the bolded sentence above.

IMO him being on this committee can only be a good thing for us. I am curious to see what the true nature of this committee is.

If anything it will bring a little more respect our way. We are starting to earn it.

I see this as a personal honour for Smith.

Not sure there will be any direct benefit for the Texans from it though, apart from better networking perhaps.

This can only mean good things for the Texans and Rick Smith's Career.

As for improving the Pro-Bowl a no brainer should be voting ends AFTER the regular season.

Yep. There was a buzz in league circles about that, and it had a lot to do with Mario. Having Rick on the new committee will hopefully bring that issue to the forefront.
