I'm separating Ends from Tackles because the positions seem quite a bit different from each other, and if somebody complains enough we can merge the threads. But I don't see why, I mean, it is the offseason anyway.

I voted for the good guys. We have good runstopping DE's and Mario can bring the heat.

Colts are good but they don't have the allround game.

i wanted to go with our beloved texans cause mario's a freak.....but it said defensive endS so i went with the colts instead, mathis and freeney are one of the best duo when it comes to putting pressure on the QB

Definitely this. I had to pick the Colts because the Texans have nothing really outside of Mario. Mathis is really good and Freeny is a ProBowler that missed games for the first time this past season.

Maybe we should redo this and ask who is the second best tandem?

As of last year, IND was head and shoulders above everyone else in our division.

As of last year, IND was head and shoulders above everyone else in our division.
At the end of last season, Indy was struggling at DE. With Freeney out with a Lisfranc injury and Mathis with 2 banged up knees, Raheem Brock had to move out to DE. If everyone on the Colts is healthy, you have to give them an edge. But that's a big if, right now.

Titan fans are excited to have Jevon Kearse back, helping replace Travis LaBoy and Antwan Odom lost in free agency. But it should be noted that the Texans recently acquired pass rusher, Rosevelt Colvin, has more sacks "The Freak" over the past 4 seasons (24.5 to 22).

Potentially, the Jags could have the best group of DEs. Top draft choices Derrick Harvey and Quinton Groves join a solid, if unspectacular, set of DEs in Paul Spicer and Reggie Hayward.

By the end of the year, I believe the Texans will have the DE recognized as the best in the NFL. I believe they will get enough from the veteran combination of Weaver/Colvin/Kalu to get my vote the best DEs in the AFC South.

Andre Ware said this morning that Freeney may start the year on PUP. That would be a major blow to them.

I think going into the 2008 season, the Texans are in the best shape at the DE position. I truly believe Mario is one of the best DE's in the league, if not the best right now (esp. for a growing franchise). Weaver hopefully will be healthy this season (crosses fingers) and Colvin (crosses fingers) could be that missing link for our pass rush specialist.

Historically, the Colts win this... easily. Freeney and Mathis are both great DE's. But Freeney has been injured and hasn't produced the past two seasons. Mathis has done well, but I think Mario trumps the positives for both their DE's, because of his ability, age, production last year, improvement this offseason, the Line's/DE's ability to stop the run, + the addition of Colvin on passing downs means the Texans have the best DE position for the 2008 season and beyond.

Good post Lucky! I have to agree with this whole post. I voted for the Texans also for much the same reasons but mainly because of Mario. If he plays the way we all hope he plays this season, he should get that recognition as the best DE in the NFL. JMHO! :marionaner:

Our DLine is better than the Colts in my opinion.
