I disagree with #8,6, and 1.

Shortly after the Oilers moved to Tennessee, they became the Titans and started wearing these jobs (http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/NFL_Titans.gif), which were in absolutely no danger of cracking the Shutdown Eleven.

This is pretty good for a fluff article. Lots of history and whatnot to read about.

However, the old Bills helmet (Number 11) looks like complete ass and I have no idea how that made it onto any list.

Why isn't there a Texans helmet in that list? :aggressive:

I disagree with most of them. The Steelers and Cowboys belong. Some of them I like, but they aren't top 10. Maybe the Oilers, but I may be biased in their favor. The Bengals helmet just goes with the uniform. I suppose it's #1 as far as just matching the uniform, lol.

Know what? That old Bucs helmet was pretty good. I think people would like it more if it wasn't orange and the team didn't suck. Shoot, they could've just went with brown with those helmets.

That old Bills helmet is one of my favorite of all time.

I've always liked the Chiefs and old Jets logo as well.

What metrosexual came up with that list?!

#2 - the old Bucs logo was just GAY ("not that there's anything wrong with it")

Seriously lame to even be in the top 10, much less no. 2.

The old Patriot helmet is an honorable mention? That thing is just stupid. I'm surprised he didn't pull out the old dolphin wearing a goofy helmet, too.

The Raiders easily have one of the coolest, but it must have scared metrosexual boy.

I have no problem with the Steelers, Oilers, Colts, Packers (just because it's old school), or even Cowboys helmets. I think the newer Chargers one is better than the old one.

But the rest of them are a stretch. The Houston Gamblers should have been an honorable mention before the Orlando Thunder. That thing looks like it came from a Pride Parade or something ("not that there's anything wrong with it").

Off-season is too dern long. Here we sit wasting time talking about helmets instead of watching them slam into each other!

So, when are we gonna update the Texans helmets? :jk:

I've always favored the Eagles '70's-80's helmet, the Rams as well. I saw some Raider fans griping about their helmet not being there, I never thought they were anything special based on looks alone, same for the Cowboys. I'm too biased to judge the Oiler helmet objectively. The Bengals helmets are cool AND fitting, what with the black bars on them.

As for the Tampa Bays helmet, I like the current one over the old one, but opinions vary with those. For college the Michigan helmet is just plain cool.

The Gamblers helmet was really good. I'm not so sure about the name, but the helmet went well with it.

My list, off the top of my head:

1. Packers
2. Cowboys
3. Colts
4. Oilers
5. the Eagles. I love the wings.
6. The Raiders
7. Chiefs
8. Modern Broncos
9. The 00's Chargers
10. Vikings, especially when Jim Marshall wore it.

The old Bucs helmet is one of the worst helmets of all time. How the hell does that make it in your top 11? The new Bucs logo/helmet is way cooler.

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/NFL_Buccaneers.gif

I'm not a fan of the Chargers helmets. Especially the ones with the numbers underneath. I liked the dark blue ones they wore through the 90s up to 2006 much better

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/NFL_Chargers_OLD7.gif

I was never a fan of the Oilers helmets. I think it's the white background. I just never really like helmets that are white. Same reason I don't like the Colts (and Chargers) helmets.

I do like the old red Falcons helmet. I wish they would bring those back!

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/Falcons_OLD4.gif

The Giants one would be on my list. Those are very cool

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/NFL_Giants.gif

Here's one last one that I really like. The Louisville Fire helmets from AFL2.

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/AF2_Fire.gif

Here's a link that has pictures of almost every helmet that any professional (and college) football teams have worn.

I was doing fine with this fluff piece until I read this...

Not a day goes by that I don't wake up and miss that swashbuckling son of a gun winking at me like I just brought him breakfast in bed

now keep in mind that the author is a guy writing about bringing another guy breakfast in bed....

maybe its just me.

What no Bears helmet? I'm surprised that it never even got an hounourable mention.
As for the Eagles helmet - it would make a nice accessory for the Hawkmen in Flash Gordon.

I would say that Pro Football refers to the fact that the players playing are Professional and you do get paid in Arena Ball so technically they are Pro's, making Arena Football a form of Pro Football.

No it is not just you. I also thought the same thing.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, but I do not see myself bringing a swashbucking guy breakfast in bed anytime soon, nor would I have ever thought about it.

He makes a few references such as the one about the Bucs helmet. Either he was having fun seeing how many people would catch it or he had a few Freudian slips along the way...

lets talk about what's wrong with OUR helmets. first and foremost the emblem is too big. it's just too big. it looks to dated. (modern) the horns bend up over the crown of the helmet and it looks stupid. plus the bull thing is just a little too obvious. (mind you i live in austin) i'm sick of it. and why is said bull swooshing? i just wish they had been able to work in the state of texas. we are the only state in the nation that regularly recognizes the shap of our state as part of our identity. that gamblers helmet was a great way of doing that. i know the old dallas texans helmet was just the state shape. that's not quite enough but if it could be worked in the way it was for the gamblers with that G it would be nice. (smaller though).

for the record i love our colors and everything else about our uniforms.

this is news to me. i was in the womb. i looked it up though. interesting snipit:

link (http://www.mearsonline.com/forsale/item/?id=250)

Underfinanced from the very beginning, the WFL Texans survived in Houston for 11 games. (In week 12, the Houston Texans were scheduled to play in Birmingham against the Americans. The 3-7-1 club, according to the Birmingham game programs, were called "Houston Texans" as they were printed well in advance. One Buffalo, New York newspaper identified the Texans as just "Louisiana" while others either printed the team as Shreveport or Houston in the WFL standings.) In that game at Legion Field, the "Louisiana" nee Homeless Texans not only lost the game, 42-14, the team lost its head coach, Jim Garrett-suspended and eventually fired from the league, and its quarterback, former AFL-NFL veteran Mike Taliaferro. Taliaferro (pronounced Tolliver) retired rather than move with the team to Shreveport.

Before planting the transplanted franchise into Shreveport ground, the league ran into a snag. L.A. Frey & Sons, a company specializing in, of all things, "weiners" filed a restraining order, preventing the team from leaving Houston until they played one more game at the Astrodome. The promotion, four Frey Labels would get you one ticket for $1. The company worried that their reputation and sales would be ruined if the promotion wouldn't go through as scheduled. One Texans official testified in court, claiming that the Shreveport opener would attract some 30,000 fans. If the game were to be played in Houston, against Memphis who had demolished the Texans 45-0 no less, said the official, they would draw no more than 2,500 at the Astrodome. After hearing both sides, a Houston court judge granted the Texans its freedom from Houston to move to Shreveport.

this was their logo. not unlike the HT logo.

I really liked the old Gambler unis
http://espn.go.com/photo/2006/1204/nfl_g_kelly_195.jpghttp://www.mghelmets.com/usfl/gamblers.gif

They just looked cool to me. Using the Texas state outline to make the G and that little gold star designating Houston. That's still cool.
...in an old school kinda way.

I agree, I always liked the Gamblers logo and uni's. I always liked the Texas state outline in the logo. I wanted the Texans to use the state as a logo from the beginning. I'm not taking anything from the current bull logo as I like that one also. I wanted the new team to be called the Generals so they could use that logo.

I really disagreed with his take on USFL helmets. There were some excellent USFL helmets but in my opinion the Philadelphia Stars were not wearing them. If you wanted simplicity or a very "classic" look you could go with either the Boston/New Orleans/Portland Breakers helmet or the New Jersey Generals. If you wanted something innovative then the Gamblers had a great look. If you wanted an instant all-time classic (so good it was practically re-used by the Carolina Panthers then the Michigan Panthers had an outstanding helmet that was way ahead of it's time.

The Stars had one of the least notable helmets in the USFL. Completely forgettable if you ask me.

I remember Jacksonville's first helmet, they had to change it because it looked like a copycat of the Jaguar(car) emblem.....

Not really but the Jaguar automobile company complained and won.
