OK OK OK!!! This is getting to be a recurrent theme, but we need to protect Carr. We need to lower the penalties. We need to get the ball to Johnson. We need a new this, we need a new that. Let's face it. We need to do alot of things better. This weeks game, believe it or not, will mean alot to the franchise. If this team goes to Chicago, and lays an egg, they tanked the remainder of the season. Over the past few games, we ran into a few wrecking balls of "playoff" caliber teams, and got it handed to us, and frankly that is what happens when your not very good. BUT, if we cannot beat the teams in the league, that we should, then this team has officially given up on the season. More Fire Palmer threads. More Carr to Johnson plays, that never happen, I'm out................Sorry, Rome flashback! Houston has more heart than to tank it! :hairpull:

Every team and their fans feel like they 'should' beat the teams with bad records. Why wouldn't they?

Oilers/Texans
12-12-2004, 07:11 PM
They feel like they will win, and think they should, but this is not a game they "should" win and they know it. They feel they can win but they should also know that the Texans are a better team than they are. Like our game today. I felt the Texans could and should win it, but I also knew that we may very well lose because the Colty offense being so good and our defense not being so good. The Bears are bad and their fans know it. They think they will win but will not be at all surprised if they lose. From our standpoint, I think the Texans will win and I will be shocked (and embarassed) if Houston loses to such as bad a team as Chicago.

You guys should have no problems beating the Bears if they play like they did today. They have a huge weakness at Oline and Qb. So they cant run because of the oline and cant protect the QB. Decent D though.

We live in their NFL neighborhood though. If we can beat the Bears it will be the only team we beat in their division. We've been swept so far by Detroit, Green Bay and Minnesota.

I think we're going to lose this game. The Texans stink on the road and the game today was proof of how much better they've been doing at home. It's probably more common throughout the league than most people realize, but the Texans are getting really notorious for it.

They say to give the home team 3 points, but I say give them AT LEAST 7.

Oh, and, in the Texans' case, take away another 14 from the other team.

i will call this...it will be a defensive game...the bear's defense will get 2 ints against us because we all know carr sucks on the road...azumah will get one and tillman the other...but our own robinson will get an int and so will earl...peek will get a pair of sacks and the team that wins will be the one that can protect their qb best...i'm sorry as bad as their o-line is ours isn't that much better...the game will be desided by 3 or less points

This team can't beat anyone right now. The Colts have the worst defense in the AFC and they scored 14 points. Aside from one 5-game stretch, this season has been a disaster. One gutless performance after another.

I give us a slight edge in this game. I think we will likely lose at Jacksonville. The Browns have cashed it in.

I am guessing we go 7-9 at this point.

You know I bet Bengal's fans had that same attitude from 1991-2002. Doesn't it make you proud to be compared to those Bengals?

Besides, if there's someone you just got to have in the top 10 (or in the first round say for instance) you can always bundle the rest of your draft picks together and trade your way on up there.

Which IMO is saying that you go jump on someone in the top 10 because you're absolutely, positively certain that this kid is what you're missing. It's like signing a really, really expensive free agent. You go get him when that's the exact piece you're missing. Otherwise if you don't have to be in the top 10 then don't be. I'd much rather watch wins than the draft (though come draft day I'm so hard up for anything football related that the draft ain't bad)

I have been keeping my eye out on the long range forecast since sunday, and the temp forecast continues to plummet. On Sunday, I saw low 40's, Monday, I saw 32, yesterday, it said 30, and today, the NWS site shows a high of 20 with snow possible. Weather will be a real factor for the first time in Texans history. Should be interesting.

Here is a link to the NWS forecast - http://www.crh.noaa.gov/forecasts/ILZ014.php?warncounty=ILC031&city=Chicago

Yup, cause we're past that point. We're not desperately needing one star player. Time to hit the draft with 8 wins by God!

Herm Edwards is one of my favorite coaches. How can you not like that guy? He has a great attitude. He is the kind of coach that can motivate coaches to do just about anything.

Herm Edwards is also a coach, many wanted fired but management stuck to their guns with him and they have a winning ball club now.

I think that if a lot of people saw the Steelers offensive calling, without knowing it was the Steelers, they would say that they don't play to win, but the Steelers are 12-1. Also, Carr is a 3rd year QB, with really bad pass protection, who keeps audibling to the run, so they look even more conservative than they really are.

edo783
12-15-2004, 02:32 PM
I am not sure he has any other thing to audible to besides a run. Haven't seen it. If he looks over and it looks like they are stacked for the pass he has called, then I suppose he just tries a run. I wonder if there is even a pass audible for when a run is called available to him.

HJam72
12-15-2004, 02:59 PM
We've discussed that in the past and I think the answer is no, if I'm not mistaken. Carr can only audible to runs, I believe. Apparently, they think that's all he's capable of right now. All I know is they see him practice and I don't, so I assume they are right. He'll get it one of these days and they'll start adding passing audibles. One of the reasons they think he's not ready to audible to pass plays may be because he might be audibling to run plays when it's not necessary at all. You can't let a QB like that start calling pass audibles and throwing INTs, when maybe the original play would've worked in the first place.

Lol, for now, maybe they should just stop letting him audible at all.

TexansTrueFan
12-15-2004, 03:48 PM
he will get better , the coaches just need to give him more freedom in the play calling. Have a little more faith in our O to do there job and maybe we could put some more points up on the board !!!!!

edo783
12-15-2004, 05:03 PM
Personally I see the audible thing as kind of indicative of most of the issues that we have been talking about. We are soooo bolted down and afraid of a mistake that we wind up making mistakes by trying not to make a mistake. At some point you have to just go out and play football and stop worring. Let's start playing with abandon on both sides of the ball and see what happens. I suspect that we might see some players who are enjoying playing and doing very well at it. We might still lose, but it will be an enthusiatic loss.

Latest forecast is for 14-24 degree temp range and windy: wind-chill is gonna
be tough stuff. We got a Cal QB, Lou TB and top 2 receivers are from Fla.
Bears favored by 1 point with O/U @35-36. This will be much different than
playing in the cozy, warm confines of Reliant. Game is anything but a slam
dunk for us. I think I'm gonna be impressed if they can win it up there.

Possible interpretation of this statement: The Texans will show up for the first quarter. :heh:

When we were getting set to watch the Jets game, some people around here hoped for a performance like we saw in Buffalo last year. I could go for that this weekend. Ugly wins are fine with me at this point!

keep in mind the wind chill will be significant. the winds off Lake E-coli will be whipping. I went to the aquarium about a block away on Wed and it was horrible. I'm starting to wish for a retractable roof at Mothership Field.

Cold, windy and snowing. Looks like we had better hope the o-line shows up and opens holes for DD because it will probably be a tough day to pass. If they show, I think we can win. If the line gets stuffed, it will be a LONG cold day in hell and we lose.

if they don't beat the bears then capers will be fired. mcnair understands benchmarks like that.

I believe that Capers is safe at least through next year.
His co-ordinators may be on the hot seat though. I don't know if Capers would go to the wall for his co-ordinators or not. idonno:

BTW Do you watch the games. I can't recall you coming in after a game to comment on the execution, playcalling, gametime coaching decisions, ect. I for one would like to hear your take after the games are played. Maybe you have and I just missed it.

The Bears haven't held anyone to that few points all season and nobody has held us to that few points all season. There's no way it's gonna be that bad. Furthermore, the Bears have the worst offense in the NFL and we just held Indy to 23. The only reason we lose this game, by a small margin, is because we bite on the road.
