Bored. Put together a list of prospects each year who I hoped would be Texans. Andre the only one selected but thats OK, cause several where already off the board (Ware, L. Brown, Stewart) missed on 02 draft, badly, did not have a 2nd rd. pick (because trading up for Babin- no Bob Sanders) while I'm good with the Mario Williams pick & admit to being wrong in this case. anyway here is my list, whats yours (if your bored too!)

02 Julius Peppers, North Carolina DE 6062 283

03 Andre Johnson, Miami WR 6020 230

04 Bob Sanders, Iowa SS 5083 204

05 http://www.kryptonitekollectibles.com/images/cat/cowboys_logo_small.gif DeMarcus Ware, Troy DE/OLB 6040 251

06 http://media.graytvinc.com/images/titans-logo-200.jpg Vince Young, Texas QB 6045 229

07 http://www.floormall.com/images/NFL/arizona-cardinals/arizona-cardinals_ex.jpg Levi Brown, Penn State OT 6054 323

08 http://www.kryptonitekollectibles.com/images/cat/panthers_logo_small.gif Jonathan Stewart, Oregon RB 5102 235

I don't get it, isnt AJ already on the Texans?

It is the player that he most wanted in that draft.

AJ was the only one of his guys that the Texans actually drafted.

I interpreted the thread as being "who was your favorite prospect for the Texans in each draft" so I'll play along.

02 - Julius Peppers

03 - Andre Johnson

04 - Sean Taylor

05 - Shawne Merriman

06 - Mario Williams

07 - Adrian Peterson

08 - ehh...I didn't really have a favorite prospect. Jonathan Stewart, I guess.

nice list, like it! Sean Taylor was a huge favorite for that 1st pick I would have considered him if I had thought he would still been available, same with Peterson. Merriman & Ware went 11/12 before the Texans picked @ #13th that was a tough one for sure then to add insult to injury traded up for Babin (they would have selected 40th overall in the 2nd rd.) Bob Sanders was still on the board when the Colts traded up with Pittsburgh #44 that one about killed me :gun: I was wrong about Mario, love that pick now but @ the time I wanted to severe ties with Carr (not extend his contract) & draft a franchise QB from Houston.

we did get Andre Johnson who has been everything as advertised. this year I'll take the combination of Duane Brown & Steve Slayton as being = to Jonathan Stewart, if Barber can knock a few heads come in & be a poor mans Bob Sanders this will go down as the greatest draft day deal in Texans history.

02 - Julius Peppers

03 - Andre Johnson/Larry Johnson

04 - Sean Taylor/Tommie Harris

05 - Derrick Johnson

06 - Mario Williams/Ko Simpson

07 - Jared Gaither/Darrelle Revis

08 - Ryan Clady/Ray Rice

Out of this impressive list, we only picked two of "my" guys. '02 and '05 were very weak classes overall. I loved Larry Johnson at Penn State and was shocked to actually see a 2000 yard runner with measurables fall that far.

07 - LaRon Landry or Adrian Peterson

08 - Jonathon Stewart or Chris Williams

Been wanting a flashy tailback for a while... I hope Slaton can fill the gap!

Didn't follow the Draft as closely as I do now till the '06 draft, so here are my top 3 each year at the time of the draft...

2006: Mario Williams, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Reggie Bush
2007: Patrick Willis, Adrian Peterson, LaRon Landry
2008: Branden Albert, Jerod Mayo, Antoine Cason

But it's hard to argue against the Mario, Amobi, and Duane (trade down) picks...

simply too many (good) picks. you only get one. since I've followed you for at least those three years I would say your favorites where:

2006: D'Brickashaw Ferguson
2007: Patrick Willis
2008: Jerod Mayo

am I wrong? who knows you now. I think you'll be happy with both Brown & Adibi :)

I can't remember for every year, but I do remember that in 2002 I did want the Texans to draft David Carr.

2005: Derrick Johnson
2006: Reggie Bush
2007: Adrian Peterson
2008: Rashard Mendenhall

Seems like the exercise would be a little more meaningful if it was limited to folks actually available at the Texans' original draft position. Demarcus Ware would be nice and all, but he was gone for instance before the Texans' pick.

wow, your good! lol

I'm so happy with how our last three drafts have turned out. Mario has proved to be such an awesome pick, Amobi can be great, and now hopefully our franchise LT this year. D'Brick hasn't performed as a #1 overall nor Reggie. P-Willie is a stud but I see the importance of having a stud DT next to Mario. Our team is getting so so good.

Using this criteria, I would have preferred:

02 - Peppers

03 - Johnson

04 - Dunta Robinson

05 - Derrick Johnson (no trade) or David Pollack (trade)

06 - Mario

07 - Okoye

08 - Mendenhall (no trade) or Cason (trade)

it is what it is (the exercise is simply for feedback purposes only who y'all really, really wanted to become Texans @ the point right before each draft going back over the history of the Texans). check out the boards back in 05 & you'll see DeMarcus was my guy & very close to falling into the Texans laps, as was Merriman. that was the draft not 2004 where the Texans needed to trade up, cause the shelf dropped off the continental divide after the 12th pick :tedc:

the Hurricane system back in the early 2000's was awesome at least we got one of 'em (Andre Johnson). the Carolina's produce some great big DE's hey we got one of those too (Mario Williams). the Texans finally addressed the left tackle position & took a Brown :) DeMeco was great @ Alabama & continues today his tenacious style, would make the arguement he is as good as Willis or Mayo both low 1st rd. picks. I (we) get all that, this was just trying to get down on paper regardless of the outcome who we wanted on our team (Texans) out of each NFL draft.

I've been really impressed with everyones lists. instead of your incision below the left pectorial you might try to play along so we could all gain insight from argueably the brightest minds who inhabits these boards :shades:

I don't remember "sponsoring" any particular players in the draft.

I did 'kinda' want Mendenhall, but I have always acquiesced to the FO up to this point.

History has proven that this is not necessarily a good thing...:D

Uh-oh the beerlover :beerfunnel: is keeping notes.

Note to self .."self...start remembering what you post on here."

BL I was only kidding about our previous qb...

edit:

I have expressed opinions about players I didn't want.
VY comes to mind, along with most TU players.

I didn't really care about the 2002 draft so I'll just skip that one.

03 - Andre Johnson

04 - DeAngelo Hall (happy we got Dunta instead now)

05 - Derrick Johnson (I'm a UT homer)

06 - Reggie Bush (bought into the hype. I'm happy they didn't draft him now)

07 - Adrian Peterson (I was hoping he'd fall)

08 - Leodis McKelvin (I would hate to listen to him do interviews though)

I understood that and remember you wanting Ware. Just saying who you wanted while the Texans were on the clock would be less pipe dream. Or you could do a "who I hoped would fall" & "who I would have picked on the clock." But hey, it ain't my thread.

I'll start from 2004 like Ole Miss Texan did, because before then I didn't follow the draft nearly as much as I do now.

04 - Sean Taylor. This one was very easy.

05 - Derrick Johnson or Ronnie Brown. I didn't know too much about this draft class. I had no idea Ronnie Brown would go so high.

06 - Mario Williams. Fell in love with this guy when I went to the home game FSU vs. NC State in my freshman year of college and he completely dominated his side of the field. I was one of the lucky guys who actually got to see the guy play in college. My first post on this board was explaining how I didn't think we would draft Bush and that Williams would be a great prospect to draft.

07 - LaRon Landry. I watched this guy play all throughout college and thought he was a GREAT player. I still do. I think he will end up being one of the best safeties in football within a few years.

08 - Mike Jenkins. This guy is alot of fun to watch, he makes everyone around him better. He had Trae Williams looking like an All-American for the last couple of years. He makes more plays than any corner I saw in the last 2 draft classes.

All my guys are defensive guys. It will probably continue that way as well. I'm just a defensive guy.

the problem with your line of thinking is the player wanted is usually taken before the Texans pick. call it human nature, the exceptions of course are 02, 03 & 06 where we had pick of the litter. its all a pipe dream anyway isn't it? why can't fans dream? is that somehow undermining the franchise or its players, I seriously doubt it.

the point is players like Amobi & Andre where just as much a pipe dream yet they fell into the Texan hands. others who I'll just call ascending, the Dunta Robinsons & Duane Brown come so far off the radar they catch you by surprise. less obvious choices not ones fans have been banging hard for going back to their SR/JR seasons or bowl games. its a fluid process & our opinions/dreams constantly change.

when the Texans traded back this year to #26 I remember alot of fans though Cason was the pick, I had Flowers pegged, but Smith/Kubaik had a different plan & I (we) fully support that decision. However we're talking about pre-draft fan favorites players most mentioned even right before the pick- Duane Brown would have to be considered a reach, not that he is a reach for this team or will not fully justify his selection, we as fans of the Texans & the draft process where faced with an unknown.

This is a bit of a nitpick, but the Robinson pick was not really a surprise. Once he ran a 4.34, he began to skyrocket, and at least based off of prognostications, he was a lock for the top half of round 1, at least according to this (http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/archive/2004/mock.html), this (http://www.askthecommish.com/2004nfldraft/), and this (http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2004_3757270), from John McClain, the only mock drafts from 2004 that I could find. Wilfork was also a possibility, but the FO believed Payne could come back from his ACL injury in 2003 and be a solid player, and for the record, he bounced back and played pretty well, starting every game. However, with Glenn and Coleman aging, we needed a young CB, and Robinson was the second rated in the draft. Drafting Robinson allowed us to move Coleman to FS, strengthening two positions, and gave us the best secondary we have ever had. Then the whole Buchanon thing happened, and the rest is history.

Anyway, the point of my post is that, even though Dunta only had two years of experience at CB, based off of measurables, he was bound to be picked in the top 15, at least. I can not find his college stats anywhere, but he also had a pretty good career at South Carolina, IIRC. Furthermore, McClain had this to say in the April 19, 2004 edition of the Chronicle (http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2004_3755682):

Dunta Robinson 5-10 3/4 186 4.34 South Carolina

Former safety who started at cornerback the last two years and improved each season. Outstanding speed and athletic ability. Strong for his size. Can jam receiver at the line or turn and run with him. Fluid hips. Comes out of pedal without skipping a beat. Cuts on a dime. Good ball skills. Excellent leaping ability. Team leader who works hard all the time. Lacks ideal height; can bite on play fakes because he can be overaggressive. Could be the first cornerback drafted.

This definitely shows that Robinson was in consideration for the #10 pick, and may have went higher. In all honesty, he should be a Jag, but they whiffed on Reggie Williams and he fell into our laps, but I digress. The bottom line is that Robinson was not, or should not have been, a surprise in the top 10. Brown came from nowhere to being a first rounder. I'm not saying Brown was a bad pick, I'm just saying that the general population was not ready to hear his name called on draft day, unlike Robinson.

yes I remember but that happened only in the last couple weeks before the draft & not until the very last week did he project or come into the general Texans fan consciousness. if you had been following the process (not syaing you specificly) its was a battle between a pair of 3-4 DT's one the interior nose from Miami Wilfork or outside tackle from Oklahoma Harris been happy with either player, but my favorite (hence this thread) was a little safety from Iowa by the name of Bob Sanders who I wanted the Texans to draft in the 2nd rd. (he was there too, but the Texans had traded the pick to move up into the 1st rd. for Jason Babin.)

notice I didnt limit this to 1st rd. picks, just any pick from any round who was your favorite player that you wanted to become a Texan. If I had known more at the time about Dunta I like to think I would have Dunta Robinson as my favorite pick but as stated he was ascending, just like Brown, higher & higher on the boards over the last few weeks before the 04 draft. I'll bet if the draft where a couple weeks later this year & rumors circulated around Duane Brown & suddenely he became the sexy pick he too would have been mocked in the drafts as the Texans #18 pick straight up, but lucky for us he wasn't & Smith traded down to #26 still drafted him & picked up a couple more picks who can/will make the team. same goes for him, if I (we) had known more about him he could have been a favorite Texans draft hopefull.
