This is the Titans ten year anniversary logo for a patch on the Titans uniform:

http://www.musiccitymiracles.com/images/admin/titansnew.jpg

Inspired by Chris' blog post, see here (http://www.houstondiehards.com/?p=407), what do you think the new logo should be to celebrate ten years of being the Titans?

Please put all your efforts in this thread. Participants receive reps and adoration.

I think the existing 10 Year patch it almost perfect. They just need to add something to pay tribute to the fans. I humbly suggest the following.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc272/Hervoyel/titansnew.gif

I had to come back and make a change on this. The "Titan Blue" wife-beater sleeveless undershirt just wasn't working for me. While it is technically accurate it lacks a certain something and I could tell something was missing. I finally realized what it was. He needed a Vince Young jersey.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc272/Hervoyel/titansnewVY.jpg

Ok, I had another blinding flash of the obvious. When has Bud ever wanted to pay tribute to the fans? He couldn't care less about the fans or any of that crap. The fans are just there to give him money at regular intervals so I took "Titan fan" off and put Bud on.

I'm finding that the logos are so "square" that they don't scale down very good. We do a maximum of 150 wide by 80 tall which, as you can all see is more of a rectangle so it kind of shrinks that bugger down so much that "Cletus" in his VY jersey is tiny. If that's the part you guys are all interested in I could probably whip up something that looked better in a "standard" avatar size and just focused on him. Your choice of course. I don't mind cranking out a few avatars. It only took a few minutes to do.

I still get a chuckle that a Tits fan wouldn't know of, much less appreciate, the epic career of Earl. I guess George Blanda is another nobody to them, too.

With the exception of BA, I haven't seen many Tits fans who appreciate the Warren Moon era, either.

Serves Dud right when his fanbase has to look at retired numbers in their stadium for players that they do not care about and have little regard for. It's almost fitting that his precious history is worthless to his franchise's fans, and the only people that lived and loved the history hate his guts.

I still think the Texans should retire the number "34" for the fanbase. Considering the legends that have worn the number in Houston (Earl, Hakeem, Nolan), it would be a nice way to honor our football and sports past, IMO. And at least Earl would show up for OUR event. :cowboy1:

Not quite....

And nope, I never watched a game in the dome. I was in 3rd grade when the Oilers were playing in Memphis so I really had no desire to go to Houston and watch a game. Either way, saying that we don't know about Earl Campbell, George Blanda, Warren Moon, etc is laughable. Can I not like the Steel Curtain because I never saw them play in Three Rivers? Thats dumb rationale.

Well, if you 'really' knew your team's history, you wouldn't have made a comparison like the one highlighted. See, the Steelers were one of our biggest rivalries. Having seen them play, I can still say I pretty much hate them.... That has nothing to do with how good they were, and are deserving of their respective HOF spots, but still... Hated!!!!

Care... not really. Know.... yes. I honestly don't care much about what the Oilers did or didn't do. I enjoy watching highlights of Earl run but thats really about it. I don't get too excited about Warren Moon.

What gives Bill.

I haven't dropped in for a while & it truly is like a firestorm here. It's great that you guys are so passionate about Earl but I'm a little shocked at the amount of backlash that photo has caused.

BTW I also think this is great too.

I try to see the humour in things as you know Bill.

I knew that many of these posters don't really know how you post and that many of your posts are tongue-in-cheek, etc. I also knew that once you re-posted that picture the firestorm would be stoked again. I also knew you were an Oilers fan prior to the move to Tennessee, hence your name Childress (well that and the fact that Ray Childress was born in Tennessee).

In any event, Earl is off limits. The saying "Don't Mess with Texas" includes, but is not necessarily limited to, and in no specific order:

2. Earl
3. Nolan
4. Hakeem

I "love" my team. You people love to throw the history of the franchise in our face. Many Titan fans did not follow the team before they moved to Tennessee, and last time I checked they were not handing out history books when they pulled into town. It is really not a big deal. I knew nothing of the Oilers until the team came to Tennessee. Growing up in Savannah didn't give me many chances to keep up with the Oilers. It was Falcons or bust and really nobody cared about them. It is obvious some of you people have a great love and respect for this teams history. Now you have to start over with the Texans. Personally I wish Bud would have left the Oilers name in Houston. You could have kept your name and past(not that you lost it). Would have been better than being called the Texans.......

'The Texans' is a great name. So much so, that it's been used before by the Houston Texans of the WFL and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bud would never leave the name or the records in Houston. To do so would be to have class. Obviously something Bud has ALWAYS been devoid of...

Anyway, if the fans of Tennessee don't want or appreciate the history of the team prior to the move, voice your opinions to your official website. Let them know that you don't care. Maybe they could condense all of that history into one little blurb rather than listing all of these links under 'History'.

Houston Oilers / Luv Ya Blue (http://www.titansonline.com/news/titans_news_detail.php?PRKey=4779)
1959-1969 (http://www.titansonline.com/history/index.php)
1970's (http://www.titansonline.com/history/1970s.php)
1980's (http://www.titansonline.com/history/1980s.php)
1990's (http://www.titansonline.com/history/1990s.php)
(of course there is a link for 2000's - but who cares)

Dang - that's a lot of history for folks that don't care about their team's prior to moving to Tennessee.... :elle:

**************************

Bottom line though, you don't 'have' to know the Oilers history to know who Earl is, anymore than you would have to know the Bears history to know who Walter Payton was...

I got your point but any opportunity to make fun of a Texan fan & I'm going to take it.

I think the 10 year logo featuring Cletus is great & captures everything that is great about having fun with your 'trolls'.

Smack talk in the appropriate forum is best for all parties when it's done with your tongue firmly in cheek. I was a little shocked at the level of hostility ktown invoked with his photoshop of Earl in a VY shirt.

It was funny. It was intended to provoke a reaction without offending anyone. Nothing more ,nothing less. Earl is a legend who is exclusively part of the Oilers history. The picture hit a nerve & the thread took a wrong turn.

No one who has ever been a fan of football would ever wish to tarnish Earl's legend but a brief moment of photoshop fun turned into a nasty troll outing.

IMO this is a great board with a great group of passionate fans but rival fans,so called trolls add to a board. When you attract rival fans to your board it's a compliment.

We've all seen the odd fool turn up during a game week on our boards & piss everyone off with a lack of respect & general stupidity. Such people are fair game but those who endeavour to be part of the furniture all year around add to your board rather than take away from it.

I appreciate you're ire regarding Earl in Titan Blue but I appeal to TT's board regulars to have fun with your trolls rather than trying to run us out of town. Long term ,home fans will always win out but this board would be less fun without us.

Thanks for the kind words.

I think it is funny that some people feel very free to use sexist words who would never ever in a million years use derogatory racial words.

I don't have my knickers in a twist about it because heck, I call myself a chick, which isn't the most respectful language out there. I think ultimately stuff like this is a contextual thing--that if language is meant to be ugly, well then it is.

At the end of the day it is no big thing.

You know, if'n folks disrespect Earl or call me a sexist name even though I'm trying to help them out, well, then they deserve whatever can of whoopaz people want to unleash.

Generally speaking, I like opposing fan visitors but I advise them that they will receive twice over what they dish. If you want to have sensible conversations with opposing fans, well then you need to be sensible back.
