Can anyone refresh me on how he was injured last year?

2007: Was expected to start at strong safety but suffered a Lisfranc injury in the first preseason game against Chicago (8/11/07)...spent the 2007 season on injured reserve.

Injury issues notwithstanding, I like this. I think Earl has enough in him to be a decent SS. You need less than premium guys at some positions, and I think he can give pretty good bang for the buck, so to speak. With the injury, we'll see how that plays out, but I've been higher on him than I have on CC Brown.

Looks good. I like Glenn Earl, I think he and Demps might be a solid duo w/ CC as back-up to both. None of these guys are spectacular, but Will and Glenn can deliver the wood.

Makes a lot of sense since Clarks gone. While im sure Zac Diles can play im not sure if he's suited for the SLB position

I am comfortable at Safetfy - Demps, Brown and Earl all have experience starting in our system and should create good competition. I hope to see both Mitchell and Harrison battle as well.

I am more worried at safety. The addition of Reeves provides comfort, but we need a first day player in the draft.

That's why I have DR-C on my wish list. Either he or Talib would be fine, IMO. But if we go FS in rd one, and I don't think we will, there's an outside chance that Kenny Phillips or Simeon Castille might be there.

I like the move. We aren't really signing any new FAs so we might as well sign our own. ONE of the big IFs for our team next season is how healthy we stay. The Texans have the players on the team to be better than 8-8 next season but they can't help if the spend all their time with the trainers and doctors. I think we still need more than one or two players to be a legitimate playoffs threat but I don't see us moving backwards.

Good question. I thought Boulware had a year remaining on his rookie contract (5 year deal signed in 2004). But, this site (http://www.nfldraftscout.com/teams/teamlog.php?teamid=13) has Boulware as an UFA.

Cox and Horton are gone.
Roberson and Mitchell can go back to the practice squad Harrison Earl Demps and CC will make the roster with Boulware either moved to LB or gone. Faggins would be iffy in my book but, unless a first round CB is brought in i can't see him being cut.

I thought Bentley was brought in to replace Clark at LB....

and speaking of bringing folks in, does the signing of Earl mean they're no longer
interested in Chris Crocker or he's not interested in us?

Unrelated, as Earl plays SS while Crocker plays FS.

Bentley really replaces Charlie Anderson who signed with the Dolphins. Bentley could end up as a starter but we'll have to see.

We're still interested in Crocker even though we re-signed Demps (not Earl).

And Curome Cox played some quality special teams for us after we picked him up from the Broncos.

I did not realize he was a UFA. I really don't want to go back to the bottom of the barrell and lose out on a solid punter. I just don't want to carry the league worst anymore after Chad Stanley a couple of seasons ago.

He wasn't stellar last year, but he did the job. Punters probably get less respect than yesterday's newspaper. But find yourself without a good and consistent one and you can kiss a good many games good-bye..........along with the season.

I realize that. What I'm trying to say is that he was better than Chad Stanley and we don't want to go back to Stanley-like efforts do we now?

Outside of that bungled snap which resulted in a TD for them (he should have swooped it out of bounds), Turk did a decent job of holding down the fort soI think he's earned a resign.

Of course for the right price but that goes without saying.

Don't see the Texans drafting a FB. Leach is a monster lead blocker and they just made him one of the top paid FB's in the league. That's who will prevent a FB draft pick, not Abbate.

He had become a pretty hard hitter in 2006 before missing all of last season. I think his most famous moment was blasting Jeremy Shockey's teeth out against the Giants in New Jersey. It was pretty sweet.

That said - he's not good in pass coverage... much better at run support. Demps took his job last year, and Earl's not getting it back unless something bad or unexpected happens in training camp.

I wouldn't exactly put it like this. Earl was injured and THEN Demps was signed. It's not like both were on the team and Demps took the starter spot away. But I do agree that Earl is better in run support.

CC is naturally a strong safety. In the Texans system, however, don't the safeties pretty much play the same position, which make them interchangable?

The SS in the Texans system still has more run support responsibilites, but you are correct in the sense that SS is not always "in the box" and FS is not a true center fielder. Given that they have not had a true centerfielder type, I don't know how much personnel has dictated the scheme.
