Free agent DE Corey Smith is in Green Bay for a visit on Wednesday.

The meeting was originally expected to happen on Monday. Smith will go to Houston if no deal is struck, and possibly Minnesota and Atlanta after that. LB Brandon Chillar is also expected to arrive in Titletown later Wednesday.

2007 stats

27 tackles (21 solo), 2.5 sacks, 3 FF

He got one of his sacks against Philly, and the 1.5 came against Denver. He played in all 16 games, starting 2 of them.

He's 6'2" at 250 lbs, a 6 year vet out of NC State. HE was a UDFA for Tampa Bay.

250 pounds..........somewhat light for a DE.........wonder if we're looking for a weak side linebacker.

Smith was a DE in college. He was converted to linebacker when with the 49rs, then reconverted to DE by the Lions, where he was used as a specialty rushing end and STer. He excelled as a STer, but certainly has not had significant sack numbers...............maybe the right player in the right system......maybe the Texans.

Update - Chron.com says that he has in fact made it to Houston, so we'll at least get that far.

Might be a decent addition...I am sure Smith and Kubiak think he has something to bring him in for a talk..

Well for one, he has more sacks over the last two years than Weaver.

That's sad, just plain sad.

If nothing else, a fire may be lit under Weaver who is coming back from a shoulder injury. I do expect an improvement on that side of line. One way or another.

It'd be a decent pick up.

Re-signed with the Lions.

Lions re-signed DE Corey Smith to a one-year contract.

He chose the Lions over the Vikings, Texans, and Packers. The 6'2/250-pound 28-year-old had 27 stops and 2.5 sacks off the bench last year. He also forced three fumbles. Smith will likely remain a rotational backup in 2008.
