Buccaneers acquire Griese from Bears for draft pick; link (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3275070):

he Chicago Bears, who re-signed Rex Grossman and gave Kyle Orton a contract extension, traded backup Brian Griese to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft choice.

Griese left the Buccaneers two seasons ago when he signed a five-year contract with Chicago. The 32-year-old Griese started six games in two seasons with the Bears, compared to 16 starts in two seasons with the Bucs.

The Denver Broncos selected Griese in the third round of the 1998 NFL draft. He was with Denver for five seasons and also played one season for the Dolphins.

Is their goal to grab every QB in the NFL?

They probably figure that if they can't have a passing game they don't want any other team in the NFL to be able to pass the ball.

Unfortunately for them, they are taking the QBs no one even wants anyways.

I like Gradkowski, I don't really understand this pickup.

Keep Gradkowski, Griese, get rid of Garcia?

Keep Garcia, Gradkowski, and Griese...get rid of Simms.

Seems to be a logical plan.

Gruden must not think Gradkowski is ready at all, or he isn't really looking at him as a QB of the future.

What's the benefit of Griese if you have Garcia, though?

In my opinion, Gradkowski is good enough to be a backup. Are they going to keep Griese as a #3?

I'm more curious about which pick/s is/are being sent back to Chicago.

Me too. I keep wondering what Griese is worth. Are they collecting medicore QBs?

Seems like Gruden's trying to find another Rich Gannon.

Let them cut Gradkowski, we pick him up and send Sage to Minn for that 3rd rounder.

Runs out of room with door slamming behind him.

Since Jake Plummer is part of the equation at the QB position in TB and may be relevant to us in off season discussions

Plummer update. Tampa Bay Buccaneers executive Bruce Allen said Friday that the team holds out hope that retired quarterback Jake Plummer will reconsider and decide to play next season.

"The light is still on," Allen said. "We've talked to Jake. ... He's a good guy. We hope he changes his mind."

The Buccaneers traded for Plummer in March, a day after he told the Broncos he was retiring. If Plummer doesn't report to the Buccaneers by the NFL draft April 26-27, Denver will get a seventh-round pick for him. If he does report, Denver will get a fourth-round pick.

Keep Garcia, Gradkowski, and Griese...get rid of Simms.

It's all part of my master plan to sign a left handed QB and get rid of our need for a franchise LT

I believe it is Gruden's plan to sign all the backup QBs in the league, so that come mid-season as starting QBs begin to get dinged up, he can hold the league ransom!

Either that or he looks at QB's like we do at RB's.

"Got a pulse? Okay, go ahead and get in the game!"

Not a bad theory. I'm personally routing for a dual QB offensive system, or the sudden emergence of Griese as a HB...

I'm flumouxed. Can't see what they're up to (giving draft picks away for players who aren't needed, there must be a masterplan somewhere...).

They've been down this road before with Griese and it didn't work then. I wonder why they think it will work now?

I think that's the kicker right there.

hmmm Interesting on the Jake Plummer Situation.

IT was a 6th round pick. I probably wouldn't have even given that for him.

How many QB's do they have now? After last off-season and now this off-season it seems as if they have 20 QB's.

Seems like Gruden's trying to find another Rich Gannon.

He could bring in Trent Green for a visit. Or coerce Elvis Grbac out of retirement. Grossman could be garnered from Chicago for a price. Same with Garrard from Jax although it would be greatly galling and the chances gratuitously grim.
