Ok guys after watching the videos of these running backs I came away very impressed with the depth of this years draft and I have to say if we can trade back in Round #1 and pick up a 2nd round pick so that we can take a running back in round #2 I would love either Felix Jones, Jamaal Charles, Steve Slaton or Ray Rice. With that late first round pick we can go ahead a draft Either OT Chris Williams or CB Rogers - Cormartie from TSU who was the best DB at the senior Bowl. I put videos below of all the top runners in this years draft and I was most impressed with Jamaal Charles and Ray Rice but Steve Slaton wouldn't be bad either.

It would be awesome to have Jamaal Charles. Not only is he a beast, but it may also cause the local ABC station to run Texans games over Titans game...now that Young has displayed that he is not the returning Christ.

I dont want any part of Slaton. At all. Reggie Bush clone except slower & with worse hands.

I dunno about him being slower then RB if so we're talking hundredths of seconds slower.I don't think you can be an option/spread back and have bad hands either. I wouldn't mind Slaton here especially if he somehow slips to the third.

This was the first real stuff I've seen from Mendenhall and Stewart. Impressed with both backs.

I been a Charles fan for a while and he carried the UT offense this year. I wouldn't take him at 18 and I'm pretty sure he won't drop into the third round. Missing the second rounder rears its ugly head again.

I'd love to see Ray Rice come to us in the 3rd round- it'd be such a steal. I'm intruiged at Matt Forte- 4th round for us? I also think Benjarvus Green-Ellis could be a good RB for our team as a late day 2 selection. Mendenhall/Stewart would start day 1 for us and would look great in a texans uni.

I see Ahman Green and Ron Dayne being on our team all next season. We will have Darius Walker and Chris Taylor, too. I think if we draft a RB- either Walker or Taylor will be released. So if (which we probably will) draft a RB somewhere along the way- I would like to see him get a lot of the carries next season as I think Walker/Taylor would do an adequate job.

^^ Tashard Choice, figured some might want to watch him. I'm not going to be a homer and say he should be our pick and only him, but he's an interesting RB. He's shifty in the hole, has great vision, and breaks wimpy tacklers. Something else I've noticed over the years is that he doesn't take unecessary hits and is smart about his runs.

I think Ahman will minimally get a shot in TC. What would be the point of cutting him right now? It's not like we are loaded at RB and Dayne isn't a spot runner. Never has been. It should've come as no surprise the last two years at the later part of the season when he started getting a larger number of carries his production increased. I'm starting to wonder if ANYONE watched him over his career at Wisconsin.

I wouldn't mind Stewart or Mendenhall but I still think we'd be better off spending our first on another position.

I've been wanting someone to post a look at this guy. Impressive runner I'd have to agree with your assesment on him.

Forte won't be there in the 4th. I'm starting to think that he won't be there in the 3rd when we pick. The Browns and Colts apparently love him.

I think that Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles & Steve Slaton would be nice fits in round 2 if we can move back and I hope that we do move back and take OT-Chris Williams at the backend of RD. 1. I hope it pans out this way for us that would kill 2 birds with one stone and I bet we do end up trading back because some of the teams that went deep into the playoffs will have guys pegged and will have to jump up.

RD. 1 - OT - Chris Williams
RD. 2 - RB - Ray Rice - Reminds me of Emmitt Smith & Maurice Jones - Drew.
RD.3 - OLB -Tavares Gooden - We need more speed on defense and he brings that to the table plus he from the U.
RD. 4 - DB - Chevis Jackson
RD. 5 - S - Tom Zbikowski
RD.6 - DE - Marcus Howard
RD.7 - DT - Andre Fluellen

Could be but it will be an aberrant year if 10 backs go before our pick. Over the last 10 drafts, the average has been 7.

I think Choice could be a great fit for the Texans! I get this feeling that Atlanta may be targeting him with their 3rd round selection.

Another interesting guy i know very little about is Tim Hightower from Richmond- might be a great pick late 2nd day.

Tim Hightower, RB, Richmond
Hightower was a solid all around back his first three years as a Spider, but he took it to another level this past season. He ran for 1,924 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground, but also added 32 receptions for 228 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver. The 225lber can run it between the tackles and does not go down easily. He runs with authority and is decisive in his cuts with the ability to make the first defender miss. Hightower has also proven to be a real weapon as a receiver out of the backfield. His size and all around skills should be a welcomed addition to some NFL team next season.

Never heard of him. I think a good late round selection for us would be Andre Callender from Boston College (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=146241). He played all four years. He never broke the 1,000 yard or 10 TD mark but he had 2,967 yards and 17 TDs over his career. He not only brings the ability to run, but the ability to catch a pass. He had 76 catches for 720 yards and 4 TDs this year coming out of the backfield for Boston College. He reminds me alot of Kevin Faulk. He was the guy who caught that late TD catch against VT during the middle of the season. BC ended up beating VT 14-10 that game only to lose in the ACC championship game to VT.

I don't think Choice would be a good Choice for Texans 3rd pick :heh:

Despite his size, 5-11 210 he does not run between the tackles, using good speed/athletic ability to stretch the field horizontally, seeks the edge/corners & likes to run more in space. is physical & will explode through db's but this does not translate inside the tackles. IMO not an ideal fit for Texans ZBS.

Agree with tulexan that Matt Forte would be better Choice in the 3rd :heh:

I don't think that "spreading the field horizontally" is necessarily a strength in the NFL. :)

excatly my point. he is not a downhill runner or one to make a single cut-back against the grain & drive straight through inside seam, with the short peddle steps maintaining power with body lean. What I've seen of Forte his footwork inside traffic is amazing, very hard to knock him off balance because of it & someone that generally does not take it outside prefering to work it straight ahead :)

I'll give y'all another name to consider @ RB/FB a true power runner that was lead blocker for McFadden & Jones @ Arkansas, Peyton Hillis 6010 240. Really like his toughness inside, blocking ability & shows better pop/burst than either Dayne or Leach certainly Cook. he would be a tempting pick for me if still on the board in the 5th even if the Texans have drafted a feature back earlier.

Team Needs from Yahoo Sports.

Houston Texans (8-8 in 2007)
Head Coach: Gary Kubiak (Third Year)
Key needs: 1. Running back 2. Cornerback 3. Defensive end
1. Running back: The Texans will look to add a top feature back and draft into the deep running back class. They should have a chance at one of the top three RBs at pick No. 18.
2. Cornerback: Their emerging defense needs to add another top cover man. Houston will explore the free agent market and the draft to add a blue-chip player.
3. Defensive end: The front four could be one of the best in the game with a pass rusher opposite Mario Williams. The Texans will consider one fairly early in the draft.

Saw a mock today where Clevis went at the top of the fourth to the Phins. Double RR has no where the speed of MJD...nor Emmit for that matter. He is built simularly to MJD, but he isn't as fast or quick. Rather have the golden domer Center than the boxer. We're loaded with SS types.

I gaurentee you that didn't come from Kubes or Smith's lips. What Smith has said so far : they are going to pick up a corner and O-line help...If they recieve offers they will move down. this is the Yahoo guy's guess. They've released Green when ? I'm still waiting.
