DeSean Jackson is a very talented offensive weapon, something the Texans could always be interested in.

This particluar mock version however has ommited Sam Baker, Jeff Otah & Gosder Cherilus all 1st rd. quality tackles. they have Steve Slayton #23 ahead of Rashard Mendenhall #31 when no way Slayton is even worth even a 1st rd. pick (based on his junior season he'll probably have to come back for his senior season). then to top it off they have Calais Campbell & Kenny Phillips going to the teams picking just ahead of the Texans.

If this was the case I'd trade down with San Fransisco grab Mendenhall & use the 49'ers 2nd on Sam Baker. that has about as much possibility as this mock of happening :devilpig:

Frank Coyle, draftinsiders.com
Special to Rivals.com College Football

The NFL Draft order isn't completely set, and only a fraction of the underclassmen who will declare for the draft have done so at this point.

However, it is never too early to take a look at how the draft might shake out if it were held tomorrow.

Rivals.com asked its NFL Draft partner Frank Coyle of draftinsiders.com to put together a first-round mock draft with comments.

Enjoy.

I wonder if Limas Sweed would possibly drop as low as the third round giving us a shot at him. He would be a steal at wide receiver in the later rounds. IMO he would have gone pretty high if he were to have finished out the season at Texas.

I just can't see all of these teams desperate, I post desperate, for OTs and letting the cream slide into the second. Jets paying two top high end OLTs ?

San Fransico, the steelers, the Broncos, the Ravens, the Cards, the Raiders and us letting them slid by...I just don't see it. The tackles will go befor the RB and Wrs do. All due repect to Mr. Coyle there. I'm not tring and I count seven. There ain't that many on the board who are day one starters. Simple supply and demand. Are you going to risk the QB by letting the starter OLTs go by ? You can live without Deshawn, you ain't going to the playoffs if your QB is sacked thrity or forty times or is constantly injured. Protect the QB. Defend the QB. Sack the QB that's it. Everything else is gravey.

And Andre is an unrestricted FA.....

I'm with Kast, I wouldn't be surprised.

I like the rumors of Mendenhall better though, but I wouldn't be surprised if we pick up another WR, to put opposite AJ.

Nothing against Walther, I love him as well, but if we're going to be a WCO, WRs are kinda handy to have around.

That was a good one, you really made me laugh.

It is almost impossible to predict who the 3 teams currently without a head coach will draft, especially the Falcons and Ravens. Atleast, with the Dolphins we know that Parcells will be in charge of the draft, so we have something to go on. But, with the other 2 who knows?

I'm not so sure that the Ravens will draft an OT with their first pick. They have Adam Terry and Jared Gaither behind Jonathan Ogden. I believe Gaither is still being groomed to be Ogden's eventual replacement while Terry is a quality Swing Tackle backup.

Jackson would be an improvement over the crap they call LTs in this draft.

I'm liking either Felix Jones or Conner better, but I wouldn't be mad at Jackson. Another real WR to go with AJ would be a lot better than the 50 slot guys we have on the roster.

I would be surprised if we drafted a WR, and stunned like Miami was with the
Ginn pick last year if we took a WR with our first-rounder.
To me that would be even be more redundant that drafting a 1-gap DT with the first round pick last year when we already had two of them in Anthony Weaver & TJ.

32-64 ..... Thats the combined record of this team since its inception , and its always had the same issues .... weak on the OL . Sooner or later its got to sink in .... This game isnt won by glamor positions its won and lost by the big uglies in the trenches !

one of the reasons they never drafted top 10 talent on the o-line under Shanahan and with Alex Gibbs is because....they never really had a chance at a top 10 o-lineman. i'm sure if Alex Gibbs is hired by Houston and they see a Ryan Clady miraculously sitting there at 18 they take him.

I'm sure they did, but as I said they already had 2 guys on the roster who played that position so there was reduced returns to selecting their BPA because of opportunities to take other players who would fill higher team needs.

Sorry, doesn't fly. In 13 years you always have opportunities to use 1st and 2nd round picks on OL. I am not saying there is any hard set rule just like I think it is a myth Kubiak won't draft a RB in the 1st, but Gibbs being hired makes several top OL picks less likely if anything--but hey there are always exceptions especially if someone they never thought would be available falls.

nunusguy

I would agree with that. But the real need on our DLine is a weakside DE (when they move Mario to strongside where we all know he belongs) and a NT and not a third 3-technique type DT.
They had TJ playing nose much of the year and AW at DE, when both are really 1-gapper DTs. But in addition to playing out of their natural position, they both have cap problems so that further increases the likelihood of one or both leaving if the contracts can't be restructured.

I agree with this. He's going to take one look at Weary and Pitt a' lumbering...that's going to do it. They bang another need there , RB, CB, OLB, that has been their history. I don't think that this franchise whishes to fail on another front line Qb. That should be priorty number one. Do it in the first, do it with a trade down...they won't stand pat with this group with the Gibbs hire.

Every time you loose a franchie QB you get set back five years. We've patched long enough. Plug the hole(s), lets go catch the Colts.

The guy in denver that just retired was a converted TE. It took them two years to get the guy on line. Do you really believe that Salaam has two season...thirty two games left in the tank ? I wanna see you post that one Cak.

Lepsis went to the University of Colorado, where he earned All-Big Eight Conference honors as a tight end, before going to the NFL were he would be signed as an undrafted free agent in 1997 by the Denver Broncos.
