View Full Version : Predict the Score - Texans vs Browns

11-22-2007, 08:16 PM
Texans 30
Browns 24

Our defense > Browns defense
With the return of AJ and Schuab, our offense may not be as good as the Browns offense, but it's a lot closer than without either of those guys. I think our secondary steps up again just like they did last week.

Don't worry...I'm wrong 95% of the time.

Well the spread is Texans +3-1/2. To me that means the teams are more or less evenly matched and being at the Dawg Pound is worth a little more than a field goal.

Right now I see another patented Cleveland barn-burner (Cardiac Browns 2.0??).
My prediction: 28-27 Texans.

OBTW, AOL pundits think the Texans will pull off the upset too
Check this link (http://sports.aol.com/nfl/story/_a/week-12-nfl-picks/20071120184709990001) for all the predictions

Houston +3 1/2 at Cleveland (http://sports.aol.com/nfl-game/cleveland-browns-vs-houston-texans/20071125005/preview/2007/REGULAR/12)

Raise your hand if you thought in August that these teams would be in the playoff hunt in Week 12. They have risen up the ranks in the AFC because they have both finally solved vexing problems at quarterback.

The pick: Texans. Houston QB Matt Schaub looks like a different man when he has superstar receiver Andre Johnson to throw to. Not only is Johnson a feared weapon, but he also helps open up things for the rest of the skill players on offense. That should lead to many big plays against Cleveland's suspect defense, which made even Baltimore's pathetic offense look formidable last week. Look for Houston to pull off the upset win.forgive me but I couldn't resist...

New Orleans -3 at Carolina (http://sports.aol.com/nfl-game/Carolina-Panthers-vs-New%20Orleans-Saints/20071125029/preview/2007/REGULAR/12)

How far has David Carr's career fallen? He was a starter last season; now, he can't even beat out a 43-year-old who was out of football just a few weeks ago.

The pick: Saints. Carolina is plummeting and there doesn't seem to be any hope for a soft landing. The Saints haven't exactly been the most reliable team this year, but they still are superior to the Panthers at this point.

37-31 Texans win.

11-23-2007, 12:43 PM
Texans - 31
Brownies - 20

Our D line is figuring things out (finally). We will win the turnover battle and it won't be too close.

Schaub throws for 300+ and A Davis get a TD in front of the Pound Puppies!!

Texans ----->34
Brownies ---->20

11-23-2007, 02:15 PM
Our defense is better than their defense. Their offense is better than our offense. I think it will come down to the special teams. They have Josh Cribbs so containing him will be critical. It's really an interesting game because both teams are up and coming and both teams are contending for playoff spots. Hopefully we'll pull out a big road win. Houston 28-Browns 20.

11-23-2007, 08:24 PM
The two offensives are similar as far as stats go, but as far as stats go, our defense is better. But we are playing in the Dog Pound.

Considering that, I wouldn’t bet two cents either way. This is going to be a good game simply because either team can win. Unless one of the two teams suddenly becomes horrible, it will be a close game. And both of these teams can become suddenly horrible. http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I rethought my prediction. There are two things I don't like about this game:

1. I don't like trying to match TDs with the Browns in a shootout. They're too damned lucky. We need to turn this into a mudbowl slug fest to win, saaay 13-9 or 17-10. We should treat this game like we do the Colts. Get the lead, run the ball, eat up clock. Sorry if that's not as sexy as a shootout but I want a win. When I want sexy, I take a peek at the cheerleaders. In our five road games we've given up an average of 28 pts; the Browns have repeatedly shown they can put up 30 - hell, they put up 51 on the Bengals. So please, no shootouts.

2. Another thing worries me: They have a better turnover ratio than we do. We're -7; having given up 13 INTs and lost 13 fumbles while snagging 9 INTs and scooping up 10 fumbles. They're even; losing 11 INTs and 7 fumbles while getting 10 INTs and recovering 8 fumbles. We need to win the turnover battle; just like we did against the Saints.

In my dream scenario, we get turnovers 3 of the 7 times Cleveland is in the redzone and force them to kick field goals the other four times. One of the turnovers is a fumble recovery by DeMeco that he returns for a TD. This puts him (and us) on the national map.
Those things said, I'd like to revise my prediction: 23-12 Texans.

cold weather up there in Cleveland on Sunday, and the first cold game of the season for our Texans, so I'll go against the grain and say both defenses step up a bit and keep it low.

Last week against the Saints we were supposed to see an offensive shootout but what we got was an unexpected appearance from the Texans defense in the second half and a 23-10 win. I'll take that every time. I personally don't think we can win this game unless we get another lock down second half (or at least fourth quarter) out of our defense and I hope to see another final score in the same range as last weekend.

Texans 24
Browns 17

Seriously, if we don't get a score like this and things end up being in the 30's or 40's like many people are expecting then I don't see how we win that. We either stop these guys or we lose.

i saw on the nfl main page that one of clevelands cbs is hurt and won't play.

I think we can win the player match up, just not sure about the coaching match up. Kubiak has been out coached this year way to many times. Kubes fails to open up the offense and let them shine, we will lose. Crennel won't make that mistake. JMO!!

Ethan Kelley.... doesn't matter much.... the Browns have a horrible run defense... unfortunatly for the Texans they can't run the ball.

Against really crappy run defenses the Texans have done alright. But these have to be run defenses ranked 25th and lower. Remember what everybody said when we were about to play the Raiders?

I say the Texans win this one with strong defense inside the red zone. The Browns march down the field then stall 4 times, they get 1 touchdown aided by a pass interference call.

The Brown's offense is one dimensional, if only because Jamal Lewis is a complete joke and hasn't been worth a damn since his big season with Baltimore. He is actually a lot like the over-rated version of Dayne. Big and sluggish and not very productive. The difference is that people actually expect something else of him. This will leave the Texans room to focus on their strong passing game (as I am sure that Kubiak has been losing sleep over throughout the week). Unfortunately, I am expecting Anderson to have a pretty good day. He'll probably throw multiple TD passes to his strong targets, who are matched up against our depleted secondary. With that said, our offense is clicking and their defense has been pitiful. Here are some of Clevelands defensive rankings:

Points/Game 29.4 (32nd)
Total Yards/Gm 406.3 (32nd)
Rush Yards/Gm 136.8 (28th)
Pass Yards/Gm 269.5 (31st)

I see Schaub having a career day today. I see him throwing at least 2 TDs, for over 350 yards. If you have him in your fantasy leagues, start him. I am also expecting a decent day out of Dayne, who has shown signs of progression in recent weeks. He wont be devastating, but he'll get his.

All in all, I'm expecting a high scoring affair, but ultimately I am expecting the Texans to use the poor Browns' defense to eat up to control the football and keep Derek Anderson off of the field.

Texans - 31
Browns - 23
