I've been a Texan's fan long enough to realize that ESPN has no love for us, but I have been watching for over an hour now with no mention of our Texans. I'm sure if RB had a good game than it would have been worth a story but since the Texans might have got it right after all, They show nothing. ESPN is the only sports news shown on armed forces tv, I was ready to see some crow eaten this morning......

I mentioned this in another topic man. I know I feel had the Golden Boy had a good day and Mario and the Texans lost we'd hear about it.

I think all of those guys that called the Texans Stupid for taking Mario don't want to eat their Crow and that is not right, they have to eat it.

Was thinking the same freaking thing. If Bush had tore it up, ESPN would have been hyping the highlights so much more. Sad and pitiful, really sad and pitiful. F*ck espn! :texflag:

ESPN just presents what the sports fans want to hear so they can sell more beer and trucks in their commericals. Most sports fans around the nation laugh at the Texans for passing up both Vince and Bush for Mario, and so ESPN rolls with that. Nothing unusual.

When Mario starts kicking serious ass and the Texans prove to be a winning team, we'll get the coverage.

Its pathetic imo, all week they were hyping up "Reggie vs Mario" and when Reggie plays like crap and Mario has a good game they sweep it under the rug.

Well, I guess it's not limited to ESPN. I was just watching the armed forces network replay of the Pats-bills game and during the half time show with Costas and Keith Oberman they covered all of the Sunday afternoon games and guess which games got left out? Well to be honest I don't think they showed highlights of the 49-rams game either. I guess we fall under the loser/unnewsworthy bracket. Although had Reggie Bush made a couple of plays the story would share billing with Bonds. there would be some sort of Sportcenter special on Barry bonds and teams who passed on Reggie.

i watched the hour long one at 6pm last night, and i didn't see anything.... the two anchors kinda mentioned mario v. reggie off hand (paraphrasing, "The game in Houston made it look like the draft order was correct.")

The only reason I even watch espn anymore is to get scores from other sports. The NFL Network is the station I watch for NFL news and highlights. I now even watch it for College football analysis too.

The people on NFLN actually speak from their own mind rather than parroting others. Some comments aren't good for the Texans, but they're realistic. Mooch gave us a compliment saying we're a young up and coming team in the NFL.

Get NFL Network.:)

At least I know I was not completely out of my mind when I would have swore they did not show us.

As far as they are only showing what the fans want to hear? BS they have an agenda and do not want to make themselves look stupid. Fans want all teams covered and here and see the scores and highlights of games they missed. For them to ignore the game completely is not doing what the fans want.

ESPN really is losing ground to NFLN right now. I might read the ESPN webpage, but as far as watching their network they just plain suck.

Well said.

Another point is that ESPN focus on Offensive players. Look at their 'studs and duds' section this week. I guess the hyped up running backs sell the beer and trucks while defences do nothing other than win games. Oh well.

ESPN lost all credibility with me when they did the day long Joe Torre farewell press conference. That channel is built around New York and New England sports and occasionally will mention Philadelphia and LA. Just pathetic. Oh and they talk about Romo and TO too.

It used to be where their Baseball coverage was the only thing that was so blatantly focused on the left coast. Well now their whole coverage is just a complete joke.

Please, for the love of God. Can someone beat the Patriots, please? And please, can the Giants or Jets get any more coverage than they do with being average teams respectively? And if I hear another story about the Red Sox, I may jump off a bridge.

the NFLN is where I go for coverage as well and they give almost every team EQUAL coverage....which is how it should be.

I watch NFL Gameday on the NFL Network every Sunday after I watch Inside the Game on ABC13. Gameday is the best football highlight show ever made.

They break down every game as if they are the hometown media for each team. They give credit where credit is due when it comes to the whole draft pick debacle and always refer to the Texans as a great young team with a bright future.

I even can stand Deion Sanders for a little while on that show. He is actually enjoyable to watch on there. Who would have thought?

I can handle Deons flair that he brings. I don't mind some flash with my news, as long as I am getting news too. One thing that is good on NFL Network is getting up to date stats as the game is in progress. Since I was unable to go to the game yesturday or for any away game, it is nice to be able to switch over from a game during commercial breaks and catch scores and stats of other teams as they happen with out having to wade through a talking head pimping a team.

ESPN has been very critical of VY this year. Last year VY was damn good and busted out on the scene. That merited coverage and hype. This year he looks slower with his feet, slower with his reads, and is not showing the knack on 3rd down like he did last year.

Bush is ESPN's boy. VY was just flavor of the week once Bush didn't end up being Gale Sayers: The Sequel.

Its because of ESPNs little bias.

The whole AFC south doesn't get any love publicity wise. Sure they admit it is the best conference, but when it comes to discussing and giving some love to the teams playing in it they rather talk about the Cowboys and Pats FOR THE WHOLE DAY.

If I cited examples that I've seen of the YESPN sydrome I'd be here all day. I guess to add another twist their act I'll say I always laughed out loud when watching their coverage of NASCAR this year. Aside from their uninformed coverage, only Rusty Wallace brought anything to the show, was their playing hip-hop music while going to a commercial. This isn't anything on hip-hop, but that was a funny, as in comical, choice of music considering the alternatives. Yeah, I know, bring on the banjo jokes.

Overheard on Mike and Mike this morning...
all quotes are paraphrases, but pretty darn close

Greenie: "The Texans have had their harsh critics, and I certainly among them, but this team is a lot better than many give them credit for."

Stink: "Were it not for injuries...Andre Johnson...this is a 7-3 football team."

Well, injuries are part of the game, but it is good to have AJ back nonetheless.

Bennett and Mario looked good.

Dayne looked better.

Schaub looked like a field marshall.

For what it's worth, they were showing highlights of the game on NFL Primetime. Ditka was praising Mario on his sack and motor throughout the game. Wingo didn't say anything bad about the Texans, but didn't really praise them either. If anyone needs a big-ole helping of crow, it's Trey Wingo.

They also showed a handoff to Bush where he tried to bounce it outside and Mark Schlereath was yelling at Bush to run it inside and to stop trying to go for the home run everytime. Oh how the tides are turning....

Two things blew me away last night and that was one of them. The other was looking at the graphic of the playoff chase in the AFC and we were right in the middle of it, and now, just one game out. Even better was having folks calling me last night to take them to the playoff game if we got in. :francis:

It is easy to say lets not talk about the playoffs. Screw that, it has been a long road up until now not to get some ROI on this fandom. If anyone thought that a "playoff run" would be sexy and not a grind is fooling themselves. ESPN is back to their usual ways with us...

So I've been watching and first I hear Ole Skip say "The Texans are forever going to regret taking Mario Williams over Vince Young."

Okay first off...Mario did excellent on sunday, so that just goes COMPLETELY ignored because Vince had a pretty good day too. Vince is about as consistent as Mario.

Second... the guy Always praises Schaub so much. So he is contradicting himself by saying that, because that means Schaub will fail if we are going to regret passing on Young.

Okay than on NFL Live, they go on to talk about the playoff race... so guess what...they literally assess each team in the race...when it comes to the Texans...nope. The only thing they say "and the Texans are with the 5-5 group with te Browns) yet they didn't even assess our situation like they did the other 6 teams...

ESPN just hopes we fail so they can brag about us not having Bush. They are mad because we didn't make Bush 'The One'. I have a feeling if we did, they would always praise us as "This team is going to be really good in the future." as it is we are just another team to them, and we are hardly ever mentioned.

I heard Emmitt Smith say the Texans will be the toughest team for the Broncos to beat with their remaining schedule on MNF, but lets look at this formula.... houston team + the south + mario over the other guys + expansion team + moronic hysterical east coast bias media coverage = no Texans love on big networks...This makes it all greater if we make the playoffs and the networks are forced to hype our games.

I'm sure they already had their script written and the video all ready to show how bad the New Orleans Bushes beat up on poor helpless Mario and the Texans. When that didn't happen they just didn't know what to say, so they said nothing at all. How many times have you watched ESPN only to hear them mention a player who hasn't been with the team for two season or IR for three weeks mentioned during their matchup section? I'm just pissed because this is all that we get in the military! I sure wish the Texans would snub ESPathetic when they are winning and contending.

Sounds like Emmitt was on to something. The greatest aspect of this win tonight is that ESPN and everyone is forced to acknowledge Super Mario, therefore, they will be forced to snack on some crow. They are not eating their crow so far.

I just watched 1st & 10 and they talked about Mario. Skip and that other guy Rob Parker or whatever the hell his name is.

The question was asked "Was Mario the right pick?" guess what...still not the right pick to them...why?

Skip says simply "You have to take the hometown guy." Really...so I wonder why we didn't take Addai? Or any other guys from Houston in the 06 draft. This excuse is lame because they are refusing to eat their crow. To Skips credit he did say after that "But it was between Bush and Mario."

The other guy...oh boy. He said we will regret this. He said VY is a franchise changer or whatever(compared him to Michael Jordan except Jordan literally carried his team and VY hampers them a bit). And Mario Williams IS NOT a Lawrence Taylor...he's right about that, Mario isn't a LB, i'm thinking Mario is more of a Reggie White.

He also said "We needed the ticket sales." wow what a 'expert' to completely ignore the Texans ticket sale history. He also said the its about winningand 500 isn't winning. Almost acts as if VY has everything to do with the Titans being 7-6 and like we don't lead the NFL in players on IR.

I'm tired of this notion that the QB position that is most important. All positions on the field are equally important IMO. A great Safety can make ALL the difference (ask the colts) a great LB can make all the difference, a great LT can make all the difference (ask the Browns, maybe THomas isn't great but he's pretty good) hell even a great FB can make all the difference in the world (Ask the Seahawks and Shaun Alexander).

These guys better hurry and eat this crow while its hot, its much harder to swallow when it gets too cold.

Jim Rome just owned up to it. I don't prarticulrly like Romes' format, but I respect the guy for admitting he made mistake. Most of the ESPN guys are punks. They are becoming more and more illrelievant. They treat the football fans like crap. If you're not an all sport all the time guy, they'd just as soon dump you as placate you.

Outside of the live footbll games, the only show they have I want to see is NFL live. You'll notice there is never a set time to record the show. They always have games on that pushes the start time all over the place. So...either you have to be a fifeth avenue guy who can stop in the middle of the day to watch it in the afternoon or you don't watch it. So I got it Disney Sport channel. Put your finger away. I'm already shuffeling down the road. The don't do that to the baseball or basketball shows . Only football. There is a reason their market share is collapsing. It is a self inflicted wound. They'd rather go down the toilette than admit a mistake.

Actually, I don't think he was too far off there. If the Texans put a litmus test on all season ticketholders and people entering the stadium had to be Texan fans, Reliant probably would be maybe 80% full or so.

Basically, what I am saying is, you are completely discounting the fact that a sizable portion of the ticket draw is related to the Texans opponent and that secondary market by ticket brokers.

Just because all the tickets are sold doesn't mean that they are all Texan fans. Factor out the opposing fans buying up tickets, the Texans have a hard to filling the house.

I didn't want to go to bed last night. They showed highlights all night and the locker room scene of him getting the game ball and subsequent speech, his interview at the NFLN sideline booth, all night, all Mario. Damn that was fun.

that was great alright
i loled when gary gave mario the game ball and everybody made mario reluctantly give the speech..and when he stands up, some coach (gary maybe?) tells him to sit down... classic
