Defensive Rookie -- Amobi Okoye, DT, Houston -- The 20-year-old wunderkind leads the improved Texans defense with five sacks (one more than fellow first-round pick Mario Williams), and he's handling a demanding position that would challenge any first-year player.

While San Francisco middle linebacker Patrick Willis has been strong for the slumping 49ers, leading the NFL in tackles with 83, Okoye's greater production should give the Texans their second consecutive defensive ROY, after linebacker DeMeco Ryans won it last year.

Its going to say a lot about Amobi who before the season set out the goal to win the award, now all he has to do is keep up the hard work.

That would be great if Amobi could win that honor, but I just don't see how they won't give it to Willis. Right now Willis is doing the same thing Ryans was doing last year. He is leading the NFL in Total Tackles and is close to Ryans in Solo Tackles. I think Amobi would have to have around 50 Total Tackles and 10 Sacks to get the award, and even then it might be close, unless Willis' production falls off. Heck, if Okoye gets those kinds of numbers for a DT, he should be in the Pro Bowl too! That would be outstanding! JMHO! :d:

Exactly my thinking. If Willis and Amobi continue at their rates I think Willis wins it.

It's good to see Amobi producing so early. He is really a fantastic player, and probably will be for years to come.

Yet the Texans defense is giving up 25 points a game. Only 5 other teams are giving up more.

This is the kind of performance I like to see out of a fairly high first rounder.

Great to see and I sure hope he gets it but in my own personal opinion after watching a lot of the 49ers I would have to go with Patrick Willis, the guy is a beast.
