Maybe b/c VY sucks?

Name me another 50% completion passer who throws 20+ INT's in a year that gets rainbows and sunshine thrown there way by sports casters.

What I find really funny, is that Vince will be the starting QB of the Tennessee Titans, to start OTAs, minicamp, training camp, opening day, the last game of the season, and every game in between, baring injury.

& Matt Lienart will be fighting for his job, and watching over his shoulder from now on.

The pictures of shirtless, tequila-drinking Vince Young were taken at an Austin bar. So I guess that is why he wanted to be away from Nashville and working with the new offensive coordinator.

Re-read the Whitlock article about the responsibilities that come with being an NFL quarterback. I thought the article was a little overblown in places, but he is right in saying that an NFL quarterback is held to a higher standard of conduct and responsibility than the rest of the team. Michael Vick is the extreme example of how an irresponsible QB can completely destroy an NFL franchise.

NFL QB can go to a bar.

He should probably not wander around without a shirt on, no matter how much he loves his tattoos.

He should definitely not drink tequila straight from the bottle.

He should probably understand the risks of such conduct after all the Leinart stuff.

Oh, and I wrote about it here: Vince Young: Shirtless, Patrón-Swilling at a Sausage Party? (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/05/15/vince-young-shirtless-patron-swilling-at-a-sausage-party/)I really didn't want to write up this story, and offered it to the other writers, but nobody else could take it.

Look, as you know, I don't care for the Titans one lick. And as a UT fan, I really hate that Vince Young went to the Titans. But even if I didn't have those biases, if I were a Young/Titan fan I would be concerned about the lack of judgment that he is showing.

Titans QB Vince Young goes WILD in Texas gay bar

Titans QB Vince Young goes WILD in Texas gay barWhat in the hell is Titans QB Vince Young doing running around swappin' sweat with (hopefully only) half-naked "ballers" in what appears to be a gay bar in Texas?

We ain't here to judge what Vince Young, the 24-year-old Tennessee Titans quarterback, does during the offseason.

It's his free time, who wouldn't be getting a little twisted at that age. But we're darn sure going to make fun of this pic anyway!

What in the hell is he doing running around swappin' sweat with (hopefully) half-naked "ballers" in Texas . Gotta give him props though, he's downing that bottle of Patron like it's Gatorade.

A spokerperson for the Titans had "no comment". And why should they, how the hell do you explain this? Remind me to avoid any Texas frat parties.

If Vince Young is sober, do you think the Titans can win the Super Bowl?

Check out all the NFL Futures in the Bodog Sportsbook.

There should be a analysis on how quick it takes someone on this board to pull a gay card. I have never read more homophobic posts from any part of the country. You would think that a state that admittedly thru census polls has the second largest by % and by sheer numbers gay population that the state would be more tolerant. Makes you wonder if the state was not so anti gay how many of the rest of you would be at a gay club.

BTW - I do not see a drink in his hand so no one can really confirm that he is drunk and this is not an all mens club. Check this photo three people from the left.

Maybe where you are from things are a little different but where I come from guys who walk around shirtless in a club that has disco balls hanging from the ceiling and there are no women to be found are called Gay clubs.

Not saying this is good or bad. Just pointing out the facts from the picture.

There is a picture of him swigging tequila straight out of a bottle.

It just is an embarrasing looking picture. Sweaty guy with a bunch of other sweaty guys, and then getting the picture drinking out of the bottle.

Probably not a good thing if Studdard is shirtless, tho partially for other reasons relating to him being shirtless being inherently scary.

NFL quarterbacks aren't supposed to look unprofessional publicly. Too much invested in them, and if anything bad happens, the whole team can be screwed over.

As for the gay card, I'm not going to say anything about that, other than it is just kind of funny to see so many shirtless sweaty dudes at a bar.

Can someone please explain why a straight man would go to a gay bar? Especially if he is single.

Why not just go to a normal bar? Please don't say that the gay bar is normal. By normal I mean non gay bar. I'm not trying to demean gay people by saying this, I am just wondering.

I honestly don't get it.
I've been called a homophobe and I can't disagree sometimes but it's interesting seeing those places every once in a while. Why I say this? I used to park cars in Houston at the nightclubs. I did this for 12 years. I wouldn't have the option of choosing where I worked and sometimes I ended up working at the gay clubs. I remember one in specific right near the VooDoo Lounge called Club Picasso (I think?). Ugh. We have to go in at certain times like to use the bathroom and for work related stuff sometimes. Seeing the inside of Club Picasso was pretty insane.

Anyway, they know how to party. I've never seen a bunch of people at a club have more fun than the gays. Maybe it's their choice in music? I don't know (I'm Deaf) but since they were having fun... I wanted to jump in and have fun too! It was an interesting experience (totally PLATONIC, mind you!). I've now opened up a little bit and attended a couple of others because my friends wanted to dance hard. There are some really articulate people (both sexes) out there too. It was stunning talking to this physics college major one night. All we did was talk school and it was fun. Lots of totally normal people. Not the type of gay bar from the movie, Police Academy (anyone remember the scene?) or from Why I Married Chuck where Biel's movie brother was prancing around like a fairy being himself I guess.

Sure, you may get hit on a couple of times if you're left on an island alone (which what happens to me when my friends go dance since I don't personally dance) but just nicely tell them that you're not gay and they'll usually just shove off and let you have a good time. I guess show them the same respect that you would want to be respected. They're people too, ya know?

I would never become a regular at one of those places but they're a really fun bunch every once in a blue moon. Now I wouldn't go there with a bunch of men either. Gotta be a chick who drags me out there. Now if I were in the public eye, I probably wouldn't want to be seen at one of those places. The media can really twist something out of hand. Even I'm laughing at Vince Young and am questioning him and his sexuality a little bit now.

I guess... times are really changing. I'd much rather there not be gay people all together but times are changing. It's time to accept them. They're around in strong numbers now. And they're people just like us who have different intrests and lifestyles. Time to expand our minds now.

Oh yeah... Vince Young... he's terrible!:thisbig:

I agree with this. I've been to a couple of gay bars in Austin (Rain and I forget the name of the other one), and they were both really good experiences. Of course, this is mainly because my girlfriend there is bisexual and was picking up girls that we could take back to her place.

Anyway, the fact remains that Vince dancing around shirtless with a bunch of dudes is VERY suspect. It's been estimated that 10% of the population is gay/bi though so that means that roughly 5 players per team are gay/bi. The only reason people are making a big deal about this is because it's Vince Young. How many would care if it was Cortland Finnegan in the pics?

I took a sample test which showed an equivalent score of 40. In my defense I have been out of school longer than Vince Young has been alive. I would have done better 25 or 30 years ago, when I was in the test taking mode, and I could see the difference between a comma and a period.

You do realize just because you took some joke test does not mean you would actually score a 40 right? I took the same test and scored perfect on it. Along with most people who took it. The questions actually get more difficult as you go through them. When you only say you got a 40 on a sample test it really makes you stop and think. You missed two out of the 10 questions given?

BTW - sorry Young scored a 6 the first time. Then his agent told him "you stupid bleephead, they don't count off for wrong answers, so after you answer the 6 you know, just mark "A" for all the others". So 6 correct plus 10 out of 44 random guesses = 16. Just marking "A" for everything would probably give you a 12, so a 6 or 16 isn't all that much to brag about.

Math was not a strong subject for you was it. How many test have you taken graded with the wrong key that you did well on?

Here's a joke for you. The only person who defends Vince's intelligence can't spell the word "the"!

ahhh ... finish it off with grammar smack. Running on empty lets move to type-o's

You must have taken the "Titans" version. The one I took had 20 questions, not the first twenty, it had some easy and some hard, representative of the real test. I stuck to the time limit and didn't have time to answer all the questions. Unlike the real test this one didn't have multiple choice so I couldn't just mark "A" for the ones I didn't have time for, like Vince did the second time. And I missed a question that was "how many of these lines are identical" where the only difference on one line was a comma vs. a period.

Do you confuse yourself when you type? It represented the real test but in this special version you were not able to have multiple choice? Riiiiight .... it must have be just like it :sarcasm:

I don't have to tell lies about a fictional perfect score (like most people? it was the Titans test; almost no one scored perfect on the version I took and no one from Tennessee scored in the 40's) or lies about "it was the wrong key". Amazing. Out of the hundreds of players at the combine every year, only Vince's got graded with the wrong key! LOL! If he had answered every question (the first time I'm talking about) on a multiple choice test then even with the wrong key he should have scored a 12 or 13.

Seriously you can not even believe this garbage right? Mistakes happen and I am sure with someone who is not projected as high it does not make news. In this case it was a top prospect. Also again you have no clue about how math works and what a statistical average is. If he guessed on a multiple choice in no way can you say that he would score a 12 or 13. It is not possible to calculate the score he would have received.

Math has always been my weak subject. I only scored a 770 out of 800 on the math portion of the SAT - but it was harder back then. Yeah, yeah, I know, you scored a 1000 out of 800 and only used your left hand.

again riiiiight. Let me guess this was some special Texas test right? Also the SATs have gotten allot harder from the time you took the test. Children are forced to learn math earlier now a days. Check out how quickly algebra is introduced into the schools now.

Really, you are fighting battles you really should just stay away from.

Running around a bar with other shirtless dudes drinking tequilla out of the bottle is probably not something you want your franchise quarterback doing. Not because it is so evil or anything. But because in an age of everyone having camera phones, you have to be stupid to let pictures of you like that being taken. NFL quarterbacking is a privilege to take seriously, and especially after the sort of season he had last year, it isn't quite the image he should be courting.

"Yup, I went back to school to further my education....of being a sweaty shirtless dude with other sweaty shirtless dudes drinking tequila."

Also, I'm not sure that you want to be in the position of defending Vince Young's intelligence.

Okay, his first reported score was a 6. His later reported score was 16. Even so, they say that for the Wonderlic that a score of 20 reflects average intelligence. So even if your QB scored a 16, it means he has below average intelligence. I'm not meaning to be ugly about it, just factual.

Leinart reportedly scored a 35, and Cutler a 26 or 29 depending on what website you look at.

Of course, the Wonderlic is only one metric for judging intelligence, and it doesn't necessarily mean anything as far as football intelligence.

But it also can't be a good sign when your starting center after the season questions Young's grasp of the playbook and his progression as a thinker in the huddle (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/01/10/mawae-young-still-needs-to-learn-the-titans-offense/). His TD to interception ratio demonstrates that very vividly.

In other words, why defend Young's judgment and intelligence when those are things that even most of his reasoned supporters say are his weaker points?

I think he has bad advisors. An NFL quarterback is expected to be smarter, more focused on football and working harder and longer than any other guy on the team. Especially after the sorry season he had last year. If he isn't doing that, well, he isn't taking his job seriously.

For instance how likely do you think it is that two test have the same answer key? If two test have different answer keys and one is graded with the wrong one the only answers Young could likely get correct are ones he answered incorrectly. This is covered in higher level statistics which I do not assume you have taken. Let me guess you have another wiki article to quote as reference?

I still don't understand the holdout. What was he getting paid?

Garcia said Tuesday that he's disappointed the team hasn't been willing to tear up his contract and reward him with a new deal that would enable him to finish his career with the Bucs.

Garcia, 38, has one year remaining on his contract that will pay him a base salary of $2-million in 2008. He went 8-6 as a starter for the Bucs last season, leading them to an NFC South title and being named to the Pro Bowl.

Nonrookie starting quarterbacks average between $7-million and $15-million a year in the NFL, making Garcia among the league's lowest-paid quarterbacks.

Okay, this is the most screwed up thing I've read in a while:

Vince Young contemplated retirement last summer because he wasn't having fun, was having family problems (http://www.nfl.com/news/story;jsessionid=482E1F3E1402F4BDD1F3ED07728E8FB8? id=09000d5d808782d6&template=with-video&confirm=true)

So he wins OROY and then feels a ton of pressure last summer??? What was going on in his life???

Gee, whatever is happening in his life, I hope it gets straightened out, but as far as UT is concerned, it can't be good for their reputation. Another flakey star UT athlete who can't handle the pressure after they leave Mack?

I feel for the VY the person. Honestly, that's some messed up stuff to witness as a kid.

But talking football, it is a bit surprising to hear the word "quit" come out of his mouth, much less just a year in the league. And then to have the less-than-spectacular season that he had, does he think it's going to get any less stressful?

I'm glad to hear that he has no desire to be a pocket passer. Because as soon as those legs are done, either from age or injury, his arm will not be developed enough to carry the rest of his career. And as a division rival, that's not a bad thing to hear.

If you read enough of the posts on that page (most of which are crap), you will see that somebody claims to have been there, and that the party was thrown by Michael Huff for his UT teammates. Apparently, the party was un-air-conditioned and hot; so, all the drunk people starting taking their shirts off.

I agree. If he would of just retired then, his HOF career would have been secured. Why oh why did he have to come back and screw up his career with his well below average play. The way he was deflaiting his career was almost like watching Hakeem his last year with Toronto.

Understanding Vince Young

By Seth Doria

There was a report this weekend that Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young was just about ready to hang up the spikes after his rookie season — a season in which he won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

"It was crazy being an NFL quarterback," Young told the Associated Press. "It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was worrying about things."

Of course, this prompted a chorus of hand-wringing by writers put off by VY's apparent lack of commitment. SI's Peter King ended his recap of the situation with a sarcastic "Now there's a solid guy."

But I'm not jumping on Young for this one. Put yourself back into Young's shoes coming off the end of his rookie season. In the previous year:

* Young led Texas to an undefeated season, capturing the National Championship by winning one of the greatest bowl games ever, a 41-38 victory over USC in the Rose Bowl in which Young threw for 267 yards and rushed for 200 more.
* He got snubbed in the Heisman voting, finishing a distant second to USC's Reggie Bush. Bush, who rushed for 1,700 yards as part of a tandem with LenDale White, received the highest percentage of first place votes ever at 84%, despite the fact Young combined for over 4,000 yards — 3,000 passing, 1,000 rushing — and 38 touchdowns. I can't say I think Young should have necessarily won the award, but his performance on the field merited much stronger consideration.
* During the combine process, rumors swirled about Young reportedly scoring a 6 out of 50 on his Wonderlic test, designed to measure intelligence. From that point on, Young became the "athletic but stupid" QB of the class of 2006. Meanwhile, USC's Matt Leinart was touted as the smart option, feeding into the white QB/black QB stereotypes (of which all black quarterbacks are deeply aware).
* Passed up in the 2006 draft by the hometown Houston Texans, who took NC State DE Mario Williams instead. New Orleans then took Bush second, followed by Tennessee picking Young third. Young agreed to a five-year deal, with an option for a sixth, with $25.7 million guaranteed and an overall value that could reach $58 million with option and roster bonuses and salary.
* After watching Kerry Collins get killed for three games (two of which Young came in to mop-up at the end of blowouts), Young was installed as the Titans' starter. After losing his first two starts to drop the Titans to 0-5, Young led Tennessee to an 8-3 finish. They missed the playoffs by one game, but Young won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and was named to the Pro Bowl.
* According to the AP story, Young said "there was so much going on with my family" during that time. There was no elaboration.

Now that doesn't sound like a bad year. Actually, it sounds like a great year (with the exception of any personal troubles). But think about how tired you would be after doing all that in a span of 12 months. From the pressure of an undefeated college season (in Texas no less) to the Heisman voting, to the ugly and exhausting pre-draft process, to learning a new offensive system, to becoming a rookie starter in a playoff hunt. I mean, god damn — that's a lot of stuff going on for one dude. Can you really blame him for at least wondering if he was up for beginning the whole thing over again

I would never 'blame' the dude for anything. (what a whiny article, btw)

But, I will question his judgement and dedication to pro football just the same.

Vince is just being a primadonna and wanting it to all be about him. I'm a fan of his play on the field but not of this act. How could he be boohooing unless there was something really serious going on with his family (abuse, drug abuse, suicide/mental illness, etc)

He has been so blessed by the football gods, he needs to get a grip and realize how fortunate he is and has been. Wah wah wah, he didn't win the Heisman. Wah wah wah, he was thrown into the fire. Wah wah wah, he struggled with injuries last year and didn't have the explosiveness. Wah wah wah.

He needs to do something about it, or his stock will fall even farther than it did last year after his widely panned sophomore effort. As a Texans fan, I don't want him to succeed, and never have, but for him to succeed he needs to start getting noticed for his play on the field again and not his mouth or attitude.

I am sure Mario wants to get his hands on him again. all this losing to the Titans is getting really freaking old. If VY doesnt want to play football, maybe Mario can help make that decision that much easier by opening a can o'whoop ass on VY's face.

"It was crazy being an NFL quarterback," Young told the Associated Press. "It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was worrying about things like having to do something called "Pass." I didn't know what that was, I mean, I had never had to run those types of plays before. And when I did go to "Pass" my team mates on the other side Kept catching the ball and running the wrong way with it. I was like, dude, your messing my plays up! If your not there interfering then my WR would have so caught that. I got so mad one day I slapped our safety right in the face. Then they gave me this big ass book they called a play book and it had all these things in there called X's and O's and a bunch of numbers with letters next to them. I was like WTF? I didn't know I was in math class. It was hard. So hard I even pee'd a little in my pants.

Of course, this prompted a chorus of hand-wringing by writers put off by VY's apparent lack of commitment. SI's Peter King ended his recap of the situation with a sarcastic "Now there's a solid guy."

Meanwhile, USC's Matt Leinart was touted as the smart option, feeding into the white QB/black QB stereotypes (of which all black quarterbacks are deeply aware).
* Passed up in the 2006 draft by the hometown Houston Texans (they said no thanks we already have a David Carr), who took NC State DE Mario Williams instead. New Orleans then took Bush second, followed by Tennessee picking Young third. Young agreed to a five-year deal, with an option for a sixth, with $25.7 million guaranteed and an overall value that could reach $58 million with option and roster bonuses and salary.

* According to the AP story, Young said "there was so much going on with my family" during that time. His "Other" grandmother was all over him about how she didn't have a rose tattoo and questioned whether or not he truly loved her.
Young also had to deal with the fact that he was no longer able to party half naked with his all male buddies from UT and longed for the days of being able to drink straight from a tequila bottle.

Now that doesn't sound like a bad year. Actually, it sounds like a great year (with the exception of any personal troubles). But think about how tired you would be after doing all that in a span of 12 months. I mean, god damn — that's a lot of stuff going on for one dude. Can you really blame him for at least wondering if he was up for beginning the whole thing over again. And then Young realized that no matter how poorly he plays or even if he starts he will still make 25.7 million. Not to bad for a QB who can't throw a football and is the second coming of Aaron Brooks.

Ugh. Yes, Vince Young doing extraordinarily bad on the Wonderlic test is a result of racism. The same racism that gave Matt Leinart a exceptional score on the same test. ::)

That right there pretty much sums up the entire article: "Boo-hoo-hoo! Pity poor, Vince! Vince Young is a great QB and everyone that doesn't agree is racist, like those stupid head Houston Texans that wouldn't give him a chance to shine like the golden armed god that he is! Life is a black abyss for Vince Young, oh how sad...pity.".

Vince is an emotional brat and apparently so are his sympathizers.

Did anyone see Carr in the Giants preseason. Oh man, he still sucks. Almost more than ever. Coughlin looked like he wanted to rip that loser's head off.

In contrast, Vince looked good, mobile, and more in control than last year. Crumpler looks like a good fit for VY as well. I wouldn't be surprised if VY shuts all the haters up this season. It's funny how VY has proven to be a winning QB and yet people hate on him and dissect his game while the same guys were making excuse after excuse for David Carr and acting like the guy was great and slamming anyone who dared call him out for the garbage QB that he was. Same people but two totally different measures of success, potential, and promise.

Some people just hate Vince Young for winning the National Championship. Hell most Aggies cant even spell National Championship much less remember a time when they were relevant in the national picture, so I can understand their jealousy and blind hatred. These same Aggie fans used to champion Bucky Richardson's game and that dude couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

Maybe Texans fans should wait till we actually beat Vince Young's team on the field before we start talking about how much he sucks or how he is so bad at QB.

Yeah, VY left Texas and we only had Colt (who sucks) to replace him. I actually think A&M will beat UT again this year. Colt is just that bad. That is on Colt and has nothing to do with VY. I will take losing to the Aggies once in a while if we can find a way to continue to add national championships to the trophy case during the good years.

I was merely pointing out that most of the bias and hatred against VY is due to him being a Longhorn all-time great and the whole Mario/Bush/VY thing.

A lot of the hate comes from many 'sip fans (note: not all) with their arrogant sense of entitlement and bias towards VY and shoving that crap down Texans fans throats. Shoving that crap down people's throat is a quick way towards resentment. This actually includes one of the guys I tailgate with - who was a 'sip. He gets embarrassed when he sees jackasses at an NFL game (Texans no less) wearing college gear.. Funny thing is half those jackasses can't even spell university let alone attend one.

PS. VY sucks!!
