Ok folks, I have just gotten back from the Houston Symphony's presentation of Gridiron Glory. First off let me say, it was an entertaining show. The Symphony was excellent and the films weren't too bad either.

Now here is the bad news. According to the narrator, Spencer Tillman, the Symphony performed the new Texan's Song and I have to say

I HATE IT!!!!!!!

Please Mr. McNair, I am begging you, don't make me sing this stupid ass song.

I was laughing the entire time. It's really, really corny. It's almost like that old Hartford Whalers theme song.

I don't think it's going to last very long. I never though I'd want to keep the Clay Walker song, but if this is the alternative, then I'm all for it

The lyrics. Learn it. Know it. Live it.
WE ARE THE TEXANS
WRITTEN BY SAM SPENCE
WE ARE THE TEXANS
AND PROUD TO BEAR THE NAME
WE ARE THE TEXANS
WE’RE GONNA WIN THIS GAME
WE ARE THE TEXANS
WE FIGHT UNTIL WE DROP
COME ON TEAM SHOW YOUR STEAM
AIM TO BE ON TOP
COME ON TEAM SHOW YOUR STEAM
WE WILL BE ON TOP (CUZ)
WE ARE THE TEXANS
OUR TEAM IS GONNA SHINE
WE ARE THE TEXANS
COME ON AND HOLD THAT LINE
WE ARE THE TEXANS
AND WINNING IS OUR PLAN
HIT ‘EM HIGH HIT ‘EM LOW
ANYWAY YOU CAN
HIT ‘EM HIGH HIT ‘EM LOW
SHOW ‘EM YOUR’RE THE MAN (END)

Axtually, the only song in the entire repertoire of songs about the Texans that is totally kick ass is "It's Football Time In Houston", by Clay Walker. All the other ones suck in comparison.

Is it just me or do those lines sound kinda...stupid? I get the feeling that there's going to be some booing going on after they play this the first time. I can't possibly see this sticking.

I prefer....

Look out football, here we come,
Houston Texans, number one.
Houston has the Texans, the greatest football team.
We take the ball from goal to goal like no one's ever seen.
We're in the air, we're on the ground ... always in control
And when you say the Texans, you're talking Super Bowl.

'Cause we're the Houston Texans, Houston Texans, Houston Texans, Number One.
Yes, we're the Houston Texans, Houston Texans, Houston Texans, Number One.

We've got the offense.
We've got the defense.
We give the other team no hope. 'Cause we're the Houston Texans, Houston Texans,
You know we're gonna hold the rope.

Up yours Pud!!

The question running through my mind was "How much did the Texans pay for this song?"

I much rather here the Clay Walker song than that thing.....Didn't they try that type of song a few years ago and it did not work either. I don't care if the guy wrote music for NFL films. That was music for a tv program....not for a sunday afternoon game music. I would much rather here something with a harder edge to it. LIke Acdc......

As far as using the old Oiler fight song/Dolphin song and changing the lyrics......i dunno about that either....I might get cofused and start singing houston oiler lyrics....lol.

Maybe they should have gone to clay walker and asked him if he had any new ideas.......:texflag:

Folks, Bob McNair has always said he loves the Hail To The Redskins song and wants one similar to it. That being the case, anything he comes up with will sound like this one. Also keep in mind that Hail was written in 1938.

Here is Hail to the Redskins in case anyone has never paid attention to it.

I love the song. It brings back memories of days gone by...

Like the time I took the fairy to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe so I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. Give me five bees for a quarter you'd say. Now where were we, oh ya. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because if the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Take deep breaths . . .

According to this Chronicle article from June 07, when they hired Spence to write the song, this is just another song to go in our "music collection". The Clay Walker song will still be our theme song (i hope).

The team will continue to use Football Time in Houston by Clay Walker as its theme song.

This song is worse than horrible. It should be banned, lost, flushed, given to the cowgirls. Anthing other than played for the Texans
