The game is coming and there hasn't been much said in the way of smack.

I was looking for the Tony Romo song but I couldn't locate it and I came across this which seems to sum up the obnoxious Cowgirl fan in a commercial...

I have eaten so much crow that I am growing feathers, but I always come back to take a 2nd helping. I feel that I don't have the right to talk after the game if I don't talk before it. So I do talk smack. However I think this year I will be serving more crow than I will be eating.

WTH? That doesn't look like a 49er uniform or our field! However, I can agree that he was a bit of a hypocrit given that he knew all along his wish was to wear the star, but I guess standing on it was as close as he could get until the real thing.

OTOH, I like the pic of Jerry. The only one better was him on the Pappa John's commercial.

We had to give our tickets away for this one - my son's high school team is playing a scrimmage game at the same time:( .

My husband has always loved the cowgirls (I grew up a Redskins fan - some tense times over the last 22 years) and I was looking forward to rubbing in the Texans win!!

why are teh Cowboys listed in the 'rivalry' thread? I know its hard for a Houstonian to realize, but the Cowboys are not the Texans rivals. That is just the Napoleonic Complex of Houstonians taking over their psyche.

The Titans are our rival for obvious reasons even before the whole VY thing got into the mix. The Colts could develop into a rivalry and frankly the Jags are just our prison love doll at the moment.

Nothing is more sad than Texans fan getting their panties in a wad regarding the topic of the Cowboys or cowgirls as so 'hilariously' penned by many.

Playing each other in a meaningful game every 4 years IS NOT a rivalry. Anyone who thinks it is needs to learn math and needs to stop being so damn jealous of Dallas and feeling like Houston is 2nd fiddle. Houston is better than Dallas, period. Dallas is a lame boring city and is closer to Oklahoma, so that means it sucks. There is no reason why Houstonians should feel jealousy, envy, or display Napoleonic tendencies.

This thread should be in the NFL section and not the Rivalry section and maybe some of these afflicted Texans fans can grow up one day. Any Texans fan who thinks the Cowboys are a legit rival is like someone from New Mexico State thinking that UT is their rival because they play each other and the states are close. Two different leagues/conferences and one team is a promising expansion team while the other team is one of the most valued and glorified franchises in sports history.

I want the Texans to lay the wood to the Cowboys and wipe that televangelist smile off of Romo's face but it's NOT a rivalry game. It's a 3rd preseason game which is nice, but that is about it. Nothing more, nothing less.

SH it is a regional thing, Astros vs rangers (silver boot), Rockets vs Mavericks, the concerts that each city gets and more stuff that you would not even realize.

I do not care if it is once a decade cowgirls vs Texans, we both want to beat the crap out of each other.

I understand but it doesnt make it a rivalry....more like a no-stakes pissing contest except every 4th year when the game actually means something.

Tedc

The forum it is listed in is the Rivalry forum. The reason it is here is that there is not a place for smack here.

Look at the decription of the forum title....(Rival fans & lighthearted smack talk. Keep it light and leave the mean spirited stuff at home please.)

As far as rivalry goes, you are correct. Did anyone here say it was a rivalry?

Yeah, I guess bragging rights will work. Let's see, last October, I believe it was, at half-time the Texans were leading 6-0 or was it 6-3? I guess Aaron Glenn had to remind them cowboyz that their reputation was in very serious jeopardy and that 19-10 was still the Texans anthem. Nothing is like a good motivation speech!

i guess i consider myself more of a Texan than a Houstonian....I don't hate on the Cowboys because I just don't buy into the Houston v. Dallas mentality

add the Jags to the "R" word and when we knock the colts down a peg we can add them too :heh:

I grew up in Waco as a die-hard Cowboys fan. My first football heroes were Tom Landry, Bob Lilly and Don Meredith. I was honored to talk to Lilly and Meredith at the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton early this month. Lilly comes almost every year. Meredith was there because he was honored by the Hall of Fame for his broadcasting career, and he was as funny as ever.

I worshipped Landry, Lilly, Meredith, Roger Staubach, Dan Reeves, Calvin Hill, Randy White, Drew Pearson, Chuck Howley, Jethro Pugh, Mel Renfro, Don Perkins, Too Tall Jones and all those Cowboys of the 1960s and 1970s who really and truly made them America's Team. Being able to go to Canton every August and hear so many of the Cowboys from that era tell stories about the good old days is an incredible privilege for me.

Then I came to Houston and started covering the Oilers. In a 1977 preseason game, the Oilers defeated the Cowboys. I wrote a story in which center Carl Mauck blasted Cowboys fans in Houston, telling them to get the hell out of Houston and move to Dallas. And he'd help them pack. Defensive end Elvin Bethea echoed Mauck. We ran that story in the Chronicle on Sunday, and it created a firestorm that rages today.

During the Luv Ya Blue era, I lost my love for the Cowboys. It wasn't the Cowboys, though: It was all those Cowboys fans in the Houston area who turned me against them. To this day, I have nothing against the Cowboys. I like Jerry Jones and . . . uh . . . well . . . um . . . there's . . . and there's . . .

I've known Wade Phillips since my first Oilers training camp in 1977. Like so many others, I was excited when he got another chance to be a head coach at 60 even if it was with the Cowboys. I just sent in my Super Bowl pick for the Chronicle's special football section. I picked the Cowboys to reach the Super Bowl.

Because the Cowboys are coming to town to play the Texans on Saturday, their fans are out of control, as usual. Through the decades, though, I've learned this about Cowboys fans in Houston: Like mosquitoes, humidity and traffic, we can't get rid of them, so we learn to live with them.
